QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jun 30, 2017 -> 04:45 PM) For those with a typical 9-5, is anyone else working Monday? I assumed, wrongly, that my office would be closed. We just got the internal memo saying we're open. I'm kinda pissed about that. If Christmas falls on a Tuesday, we don't work Monday. Pretty sure the same goes for New Years. We get a half day because NYSE is half a day.

Nationals acquire Doolittle/Madson from As
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jun 30, 2017 -> 03:47 PM) With the cushion of 9.5 games in the nl east the nats do not have to rush a move. They certainly will need to upgrade the bullpen via trade by the deadline though. Their mindset is why buy now when there might be more options in a month? Because with the bullpen they have, that lead could be gone in a month.

Can Illinois Survive?
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 30, 2017 -> 03:20 PM) Not really. Public education is being killed by lack of funds, but thats not due to less people. There are more than enough students to attend, just not enough money being funneled in. Thats due to a ton of factors. This is a big reason why families leave the city to the immediate suburbs. Private schools in chicago are populated with both city and suburban kids. There are wait lists for those. One of the biggest problems in the CPS right now is schools which are filled to a fraction of capacity, and that is directly because of people leaving the CPS.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 30, 2017 -> 12:21 PM) Hey S2k5, someone on SSS posted these super 2 service dates: Fulmer: July 5 Lopez: July 7 Giolito: July 13 Moncada: July 18 Little earlier than you posted last night in the minors forum. Are those accurate? As was said previously it isn't a set date because it is based on a percentage of players service time, so it is a guess, Apparently it has been a little earlier than I remember, but in the cases of each of our players, because they had service time last year, you would need to add whatever service time they had last year on to the date. So if the date is June 1, a guy like Moncada would be 31 days after that because of their service last year. Lopez had 44 days, so he would be about two weeks later. It looks like based on the latest day, Moncada should be clear somewhere around the 4th of July, while Lopez would be around the 3rd week of July. Giolito has 39 days of service, while Fulmer has 33 days. https://www.reddit.com/r/fantasybaseball/co...ates_this_year/

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jun 30, 2017 -> 01:13 PM) Any chance this game gets called by say 6pm with the option of being able to play 2 tomorrow or Sunday? Supposed to thunderstorm tonight. I have second row seats for tomorrow, so a doubleheader would be pretty awesome from my standpoint.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jun 30, 2017 -> 01:17 PM) Yes and it is killing the private school option for the middle class especially in the south end of the city. The biggest thing killing education in Chicago is all of the people leaving.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 30, 2017 -> 12:40 PM) I just dropped in and I see Kyle Schwarber is being targeted again? Come on. The Cubs are not going to sell rock bottom on him and frankly that's the only way I'd take him. He's looking like a 2 WAR player at best. His bat is not going to carry the rest of his flaws. He and Avi are similar except Avi can actually run. The only way they sell Babe is if they lost faith in him, which would be a red flag ala Giolito and the Nats.

Quintana
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 30, 2017 -> 11:42 AM) His first two years are starting to closely resemble Jose Reyes' first two years. Given, Reyes was about 3 years younger, but they are probably both along the same timeline as far as baseball experience is concerned. There is no harm in letting Anderson play the next 2-3 years at SS. If he doesn't stick, you use him as a super utility player and try the next guy. You don't sign Alcides Escobar, who has been probably the worst SS in the majors this year. And, the sad thing is, Escobar really hasn't seen much in the way of bad luck. His BABIP this year is .269, which is only 26 points off of his career BABIP of .295. He is legitimately a -1 WAR player now. If you're going to sign Alcides Escobar, you may as well sign Erick Aybar or Alexei Ramirez. You might as well sign Ozzie Guillen to play SS.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 30, 2017 -> 11:09 AM) Hell, they could just sign Alcides Escobar (probably the best defensive SS in the game, him or Simmons) for $10 million/two years and target other more legit trade candidates instead of yet more utility infielders... Move Anderson or Moncada to CF, leave the other at 2B. Or Sanchez at 2b and both those guys in the OF with Avisail. Of course, the most obvious option is Leury Garcia at SS. The Sox aren't going to block one of their top prospects for an off of the street signing.
