  1. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 02:34 PM) Are they clearing space to make a waiver claim? If that were the case, they could have just done it when they were awarded the claim.
  2. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 02:29 PM) I also didn't say he had no value. I just think his return is harder to get excited about without having a scout database of information on lower level guys. I agree. He has value. He is a low salary and highly effective middle reliever. But with his impending free agency and his lack of a history of being a good reliever, I don't think it will be super high.
  3. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 02:24 PM) Finished Silicon Valley last night. Disappointing ending for TJ Miller (Erlich). The best part of that sequence was Jin Yang taking him to the airport.
  4. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 3, 2017 -> 03:41 PM) Decided to start The Leftovers over the weekend. 2 eps in and digging it so far. Really loved the first season. Second season was decent. Not sure what to make of the third.
  5. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 02:06 PM) It just begs the question why you'd DFA Ynoa when you could have just optioned Infante. Seems like the Sox are trying to clear a 40 man spot. Lopez, Giolito, Gonzalez, Moncada and Saladino are already on it. Basically the only guy in AAA with a shot at being called up right now that is not on the 40 man is Delmonico. Which is why the idea that it has to be something abnormal coming into play here came to me. On the surface it doesn't make sense, so what is going on behind the scenes that now the team is more interested in Infante than Ynoa?
  6. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 11:53 AM) And this, my friends, is why you hire lawyers. She'll get a payday. "I didn't want [Taizo] hurt, especially," Yamauchi said, explaining why she did not argue with the flight attendant. "I, of course, feared my personal safety, with everything I've seen with United Airlines. I didn't want to see anybody get hurt." Yamauchi claims holding 25-pound Taizo in her lap during the flight caused her to temporarily lose feeling in her legs and left arm. In all honesty this is how you SHOULD handle things like this.
  7. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 01:31 PM) OK SoxTalkers, help me out. The newest Planet of the Apes movie is coming out, and I am seeing lots of positive reviews. I've never seen any of them (other than the very old school original), because I can't get my head around the idea of liking what seems just so silly. Are these actually good movies? Do I need to see earlier ones for the more recent ones to sink in? I hated the original series from the 70's but have really enjoyed the reboot. I may have never actually said something like I enjoyed the reboot more than the original series, either. I mean it isn't the best thing ever, but it is definitely entertaining.
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 01:02 PM) Why trade guys who have no trade value? Bodies? Sox need a couple closer candidates this year and next or they'll win even fewer than Hawk's coveted 60 games. Nate Jones is NO CLOSER. I don't think the draftniks want the sox to lose 115 games but maybe they do. Pay attention dude. Of course they will lose more games next year. That has been the plan all along.
  9. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 11:50 AM) Swarzak has been great. No doubt. To me, in a year there has been a huge explosion of homers, the big thing for Swarzak is that he doesn't give up homers. .23 HR/9 and his HR/FB% is 2.5%. He took the BABIP regression pretty well, but he's due to regress on homers too. Trade him while he's hot. That HR/9 is due for some major regression.
  10. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 12:05 PM) This is a good post. The velo readings are huge for Adams and his profile. He's not a TOR guy but definitely a guy to be excited about. The one thing I'd nitpick is him getting a look in Charlotte at the end of this year. He already has 24 starts in BHam between this year and last. Let him get his 2-3 starts in Charlotte in August to end the year assuming we see more of the same moving forward. Another thing with a slight thread derailment - it's gotta suck for the Sox to have starters in Charlotte. It plays really tough to pitch there. Other than guys with less than a handful of starts, the Knights haven't had a starter with less than 4 ERA this year or last. Once the train of trades start happening in Chicago, I would imagine that a secondary effect would be spots opening in Charlotte for Adams and Guerrero.
  11. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 01:19 PM) Interesting move when you have both Infante and Minaya on the 25 man. Both have options, and Infante would have been the easy choice. This also opens a spot on the 40 man. Either the Sox are just flat done with Ynoa and Coop gave up, or there is a roster move impending adding someone to the 40 man. Minaya is younger and still has a (small) chance of being a part of the next bullpen that matters, but Infante is over 30 and has no chance of being a part of the future. Weird to get rid of Ynoa who is at least somewhat intriguing due to his stature and arm when a guy like Infante could get optioned again without even losing him. Are the Sox signing Bartolo? It could also be that Ynoa asked out of the organization too.
  12. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 11:26 AM) Same. I assume they could do better but I don't think it'll be the Nationals' top guys. Like I said above, if I were working for the Nats, I would target more control if I had to deal away top guys for help. Wasn't it Olney recently who said he thinks a deal between the 2 probably won't happen? Where else could Robertson potentially go? Yankees? Rangers if they start heating up over the next 3 weeks? Dodgers just to add another big piece (similar to the Cubs last year)? yes, he really made it sound like talks were dead because of the ownership veto of the previous deal.
  13. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 11:24 AM) I'd be pretty disappointed with Ward and Luzardo at this point. As bad as Ward has been, I'd be pissed.
  14. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 11:19 AM) I certainly hope that the Sox are asking for Soto. Yeah, after this winter, hopefully they are asking for Soto and offering no salary relief.
  15. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 10:47 AM) We aren't safely past Super Two yet -- he'll be up sometime after the trade deadline, but not sooner. We should be now. One of the early studies posted on Super 2 found that the latest date in the last 10 years was something like June 3, almost all were the last week of May. Moncada with his 31 days of service last year would push out to around July 4th at the absolute end of that scale (Super 2 deadline, plus last years service time). He can pretty much be called up now, unless there is a new curve setting outlier of a deadline this year.
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 5, 2017 -> 10:16 PM) McGovern, Goldwater, Mondale, Dukakis.... No.
  17. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 10:23 AM) I would not mind keeping Moncada in the minors until next June or so to gain additional control. It's not as if he could not use some more time in the minors before being moved to the majors full time. His defense still needs work and another few months in the minors can't hurt him. We have to remember he only recently turned 22 years old and we have no reason to rush him up and burn service time on a rebuilding club. He will be up as soon as Frazier is dealt. If he isn't, something is really wrong.
  18. QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 10:28 AM) I'm old enough to remember when people thought Tatis Jr was only being hyped by Keith Law because he hates the White Sox. I'm old enough to remember when people thought Tatis Jr was only being signed because of his name.
  19. Very nice to see Hansen spiking into the top 50.
  20. With the Sox hot stove heating up, we have opened the trade winds forum. Enjoy!
  21. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 07:47 AM) There are posters who think Hahn is going to gut this team by the end of July. I really doubt that. I think he will make a big splash with either Q and/or Roberston as well as 1 reliever and Melky and/or Frazier. If he unloaded numerous players from the roster, he would have to turn to Charlotte which is a very mediocre AAA team. That in turn would require backfilling from AA etc. In essence, by wholesale dumping as the ML level, you promote young players at all levels who are not ready. I think Hahn will make a few deals this month to add young prospects from teams that are desperate. But he will wait until the offseason to unload the rest of the deadwood. Anyone who is a free agent after this season is 100% gone. That includes; Todd Frazier Melky Cabrera Derrick Holland Miguel Gonzalez (well the not healthy part might hold up a deal here) Mike Pelfrey (though no one may want him, even at a zero price... honestly he is probably a DFA candidate for August 1) Anthony Swarzak Then there are the players that have been talked about for almost a year now, who I would tend to bet on being gone; Jose Quintana David Robertson After that comes wild card players who have had great seasons, but the Sox may price out of the market; Avi Garcia Tommy Kahnle Players heading into arb years the Sox could listen on; Luery Garcia David Holmberg Dan Jennings (Probably has no value left)
  22. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 08:36 AM) Far too early to call Kahnle the next Giles. Giles was 24 years old when traded and already established. Teams will be skeptical due to the lack of track record, although the small sample size peripheral stats do support that Kahnle is coming around strongly. I'd dangle him, but expecting (2) top 100 prospects + more is a pipedream Yeah that is the hard part. Giles had put up incredible numbers for two full seasons when he was dealt. Kahnle has put up half a season's worth. Thonrburg even had a better history than Kahnle did, as at least he put up some OK numbers before his breakout season.
  23. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 5, 2017 -> 03:54 PM) If this happened and someone claimed him on waivers but we couldn't "reach a deal" -- we'd still cut ties with him and the claiming team would take on his remaining salary obligations. It's very likely Todd is gone. 100%. There is no way Todd Frazier is a White Sox on August 1.
  24. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jul 5, 2017 -> 09:07 PM) Democrats shouldn't want to impeach Trump. Fortunately, he's incompetent so he won't get much done. By the end of 4 years, folks will have gotten so sick of his antics and his circus administration that even the Democrats, who are complete idiots themselves, will make huge gains in congress in 2018 and will win back the WH in 2020. You have a lot of faith in party that couldn't beat the worst Presidential candidate in modern history.
