  1. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 30, 2017 -> 10:27 AM) Chicago's rate is lower than just about everywhere else surrounding it. The burbs push higher than 10, much higher. Meanwhile a 45 minute drive from downtown, mine are
  2. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 30, 2017 -> 10:15 AM) It's like a "regional" tax similar to what it'd be like to deal with a divisional team. I don't think there's any way that the Cubs offer a bunch more than Houston or NYY and that's what it'd take to send Q there. This is exactly the point I was trying to make. I think the Cubs pivot to an Archer or Gray because there is no way they can get a deal done for Q that isn't more expensive than one of those guys.
  3. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 30, 2017 -> 10:00 AM) Property tax in chicago is pretty low. People are fleeing because of the school system, the ease of public transportation into the city and MUCH cheaper rent. Cities with main rail lines like western springs, Elmhurst etc have extremely high taxes but people are moving and building in droves because the school systems are awesome. Characterizing it as "really bad" is overreaction. Residential construction is way up and gentrification is increasing (which is forcing many people out). If improving the quality of housing and neighborhoods is a negative to you, then yes its very bad. Even in the City the property taxes are 6-7%, while in the burbs it can push 10. That isn't even starting to count the sheer amount of taxes and fees on pretty much anything and everything that the City has.
  4. QUOTE (joejoedairy @ Jun 30, 2017 -> 10:01 AM) What do you think they'll cap him at? 115? I think they try to let him go the entire season unless he shows signs of extreme fatigue that could risk injury or other problems.
  5. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 30, 2017 -> 09:50 AM) 100% agree. I think more often than not, you're better off selling your key assets separately. Now if there is a guy who your scouts are convinced is a sure fire superstar then I get it and it's possible soemone offers something just so overwhelming you have to take it. But typically teams only want to trade so many prospects (or only have so many) at one time that you're better off doing deals with multiple clubs. I think a guy like Robertson's value being adding to a guy like Q might mean that instead of getting a teams #2 guy, maybe it gets you there #1 guy, plus a little more at the end of the deal. In a Yankees deal, maybe it moves the needle enough that the top prospect is Torres, instead of Frazier.
  6. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 30, 2017 -> 09:53 AM) While that's true, Illinoisans can always point east and say "At least we're not Indiana." They can laugh and say that, and then cut their gigantic tax bill check, meanwhile getting absolutely nothing for it. Illinois is a disaster right now.
  7. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 29, 2017 -> 08:25 PM) If Chicago has failed as a city then Bill Self has failed as a NCAA basketball coach. It has its struggles, people are walking away, but it's still among the best around. Chicago might present a great cover, but the fiscal situation is about as bad as there is in the country, outside of maybe a place like Detroit which has actually filed bankruptcy. Chicago is taxing everything in sight just to stay afloat, and residents are fleeing like rats. It is really bad right now.
  8. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jun 30, 2017 -> 09:40 AM) There's a very good chance Archer won't be available. There probably aren't many "guys like Archer" that will be available. And if Archer were, he would cost a lot as well more than likely. My point being is there will likely be a "rivals premium" built into a deal if someone like the Cubs, Detroit, Minnesota etc calls and wants to ask about Q.
  9. QUOTE (Soha @ Jun 30, 2017 -> 09:34 AM) In the past I would have agreed with you. But it's all about the rebuild now isn't it? I think Jerry's too old to let things like this get in the way. I'm envisioning a conversation where Hahn tells Jerry that we have 2 good offers. The better offer is from the Cubs for Jimenez +. I just don't see Jerry saying to take the worse offer because I don't want Quintana helping the Cubs. That in itself is hurting the White Sox. I think they're above that now. Maybe I'm wrong? And boy is the need ever there. The Cubs probably need Quintana more than any other contender in baseball does. The Cubs may need Q worse than anyone else, but I don't see them being willing to pay what it would take for Hahn to be able to do that deal. I think the Cubs would find a better price for a guy like Archer than they would for Q.
  10. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jun 29, 2017 -> 08:55 PM) How much are top prospects likely to get July 2nd? $3/4 million
  11. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 29, 2017 -> 09:13 PM) It's going to be an ugly 2nd half of the season for him while he builds up his innings count. Hopefully people keep this mind with the second half. His career high in IP coming into this season was 65 IP in 2015. He is already at 72, and it isn't even July yet.
  12. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 29, 2017 -> 08:36 PM) Get this kid up here as soon as his super 2 is up. He had 44 days of service last year, so we are talking around August 1st.
  13. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jun 30, 2017 -> 09:15 AM) You said the same thing about Kahnle a couple months ago.... Putnam may be done. Petricka is not done. Not bad. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Apr 6, 2017 -> 10:32 AM) That didn't take long. LOL. Not that it matters anyway but Kahnle is an absolute stiff. This guy is terrible. Oh well. Mark
  14. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 29, 2017 -> 10:46 PM) At this point, I think it is an ownership issue. Rizzo had a deal in place for Robertson once already and it was shot down. It seems that their payroll is really tight and they don't want to give up the prospects for the Sox to eat money. This makes a lot of sense.
  15. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 30, 2017 -> 08:12 AM) s***'s about to get real. Too many teams in need of pitching with strong farm systems along with limited sellers puts us in a great spot. I don't think that Yankees package is enough for both Quintana & Robertson though. Would either need a better 4th piece than Abreu or an interesting 5th piece to consider such a deal. Otherwise, I think you can get more by selling them seperately. The package listed is pretty close to what their asking price has been for Quintana alone.

  18. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jun 29, 2017 -> 12:53 PM) I wonder if the Twins would ever get involved with Quintana. Obviously it is unusual to see divisional trades with major long term pieces, but the Twins would no doubt be interested in Q. They need pitching really bad. Cost control is a huge factor for them. While their farm system is not nearly as exciting as it was a couple years ago, it is still solid, and obviously have a ton of interesting young pieces on the ML squad. I don't know if they have enough positional player talent to pull off a trade for Q without something off their major league roster, though. I would imagine the Sox would have some interest in Max Kepler, even though he isn't a huge OBP guy. Prospects like Nick Gordon (SS), Alex Kirilloff (OF) are both top 100 guys, but Kiriloff is hurt and hasn't played this year (and is also several years away). They also have some interesting LHP. I think the Twins would fit into the same category as the Cubs in that they would have to overpay the highest bidder to convince the Sox to trade him to a rival.
  19. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jun 29, 2017 -> 12:45 PM) As does Collins and Kopech. This is for the AAA All Star game, not the futures game.

  25. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 29, 2017 -> 12:14 PM) Can you get a good seat on the lower level for under 40 bucks? I just got second row seats in section 150 for 45 each for this saturday's game.
