  1. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Apr 22, 2017 -> 02:03 PM) Toews not untouchable anymore and moving him should be discussed, If return is good. If you can tell me who can fit $10.5 million in cap space AND give back superstar potential, I will listen. Otherwise? Pointless.
  2. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Apr 21, 2017 -> 10:40 PM) Same garbage you said last year, no? Look, Jose has been awful. We all know that. Past results would say to give him a few months before making any real determinations. The fun part is that it was on the exact same date last year. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?s=...t&p=3336298
  3. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 22, 2017 -> 09:45 AM) That's nuts. They lost in 7 games last season to a team that was very good. It was an incredible series. They had the best record in the west this season. It's not like they missed the playoffs. They also have young talent in the wings. I don't expect another Cup for sure.
  4. Unlike the doctor, I would imagine he is getting cash for his seat.
  5. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 21, 2017 -> 04:28 PM) I don't understand why that behavior is bad though. It's no different than NBA teams trading for trade exceptions so that they can accept a more expensive player in the future. The receiving team gets something they can use (cash) the seller gives something valuable (allotted space) That said, I doubt a cash trade would be a likely scenario. A player with a small likelihood to succeed is probably still more valuable to a team than 300k. There was a point in the 1970's (and Charlie O'Finely) where the A's literally were trying to sell their best players off to the highest bidder. IIRC, the Yankees were right the front of the line before MLB finally stepped in. At that point, they put some restrictions on cash deals which didn't exist before. I want to say it was in reaction to free agency?
  6. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 09:29 PM) I fear that this is officially the end. Too bad. Two straight first round losses, I kind of feel like the dynasty is ending. Sure they will be good, but peak Blackhawks is probably done.
  7. He'd better hope it isn't serious. That is the same injury that Danks had. It would really suck for him to punt away nine figures because he took a risk.
  8. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Apr 21, 2017 -> 03:21 PM) So you're saying the Sox would trade cash considerations for a team's bonus slot? Not sure where the rules fall on that or not, but I do know that any deal with a million dollars or more in cash requires approval from MLB.
  9. QUOTE (credezcrew24 @ Apr 21, 2017 -> 02:25 PM) The has got to be a rule prohibiting trading cash for a teams bonus pool. That would be a ridiculous if the White Sox could trade cash for a teams unused allotments to save on the tax I don't know about cash, but nothing to stop you from trading players to do so. For example, the Sox have a future considerations deal in place with Tampa Bay for Burjos. No reason that deal couldn't be for one or more of the Latin American slots which Tampa can't use because they are in the penalty phase in Latin America.
  10. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 21, 2017 -> 01:54 PM) Ah, that's cool. I guess I didn't translate that they are still given a slot, it is just individual signings capped. Yes, they still get their allotment. It is just about impossible to spend it with the restrictions in place. So somewhere in the neighborhood of 10 teams fall into this spot at this time.
  11. QUOTE (ptatc @ Apr 21, 2017 -> 01:40 PM) These would be teams that had to pay the penalty for the previous year, correct? Year or two, yes.
  12. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 21, 2017 -> 01:24 PM) I wonder if there are teams with that much left. That is excellent leverage for some cheap arms. Teams that are not able to spend over $300k on players have to have some room left.
  13. QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Apr 21, 2017 -> 12:43 PM) I did not use Moncada's number for three reasons; One, the typical big spenders on international free agency aren't even in the running for Robert (Boston, LA, CHC, NYY, etc). I don't think this can be minimized. Two, I believe Moncada was generally more highly regarded than Robert. Three, Moncada is the current #1 prospect in MLB and has basically been top 5 since signing. While Robert has the potential to get there, he's not there yet in most people's eyes. Moncada having big success so far is only going to embolden teams to spend, not lessen it. Plus this being the last chance to spend big money both before rule changes and before the deadline for about half a dozen teams is going to enhance the urgency and intensify the bidding IMO.
  14. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Apr 21, 2017 -> 12:15 PM) Per this article, the Red Sox have already paid off Moncada over his first three years - http://www.12up.com/posts/4228270-report-w...hris-sale-trade The Red Sox are paying the remaining tax as part of the deal. And this one states both... lol. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/12/red-...chris-sale.html
  15. Man the Bulls must have sold their soul for Michael Jordan because I swear anytime something good starts to happen, disaster strikes.
  16. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 21, 2017 -> 10:27 AM) Here's what I think If the CLE takes Garrett and San Fran (or whomever) takes Thomas: - Bears take a QB If Cle takes Garrett and San Fran takes Fournette or something silly: - Bears take Thomas - Bears trade into late first and get Mahomes/Kizer. But I think they'll end up with a QB at 3. Kizer has a whole of oddities surrounding him. Not sure what to think of him.
  17. QUOTE (ptatc @ Apr 21, 2017 -> 11:20 AM) Got it. That's how the numbers made sense but I wasn't sure. So if they offer him 20 million it turns into a 39 million cost. Exactly.
  18. Somewhere, White Sox ownership needs criticizing, and whenever, wherever, I will be there.
  19. QUOTE (Reddy @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 03:29 PM) 1) He didn't lose. He won by 27% 2) I'm just tired of Bernie people complaining about the DNC not supporting far left candidates while Our Revolution and BS won't support anything less than far left candidates. It's hypocritical and annoying. 3) If Bernie didn't want to be a leader within the Democratic Party, he shouldn't have accepted the job of head of outreach. Given that title, it's his responsibility to - at a minimum - tweet support for Democrats in winnable races across the country. It is very much like the GOP of today. They refuse to all into the party line at many occasions, and aren't afraid to fight with each other because of it.

  21. QUOTE (Reddy @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 03:17 PM) BTW I'm so completely sick of Bernie Sanders. Bernie Sanders's strange behavior The first two things are completely obvious.
  22. Due to a legal technicality, the Pats might now owe Aaron Hernandez's family his contract. http://nypost.com/2017/04/20/patriots-now-...andez-millions/
  23. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 02:43 PM) Luckily you've been assigned this hot scoop to make sure we're all caught up on this important story. Man, I could copy and paste this all day long in this forum.
  24. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 02:45 PM) What exactly do you mean by that? My guess would be to sign someone for under the slot number to use the savings to sign others over slot later.
  25. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 01:42 PM) 4 of which were played over 3 months ago, but yeah, it's still not Washington or Anaheim. Either way, if they win tonight, their game 5 & 6 playoff record under coach Q is like 245-1 (est.) , so it's not over. The Hawks are 13-5 under Q when facing elimination.
