  1. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 11:50 AM) I don't know. There may not be one. But we know Asche isn't one. So give the other guys a chance. The bolded part of your response is the essence of our disagreement. So who do they have that can play, and they are willing to start the clock on?
  2. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 11:34 AM) It would never get to millions because its just like anything, at some point a person will take the offer. Its impossible to imagine that if someone was offered $10k they wont take it. You could rent a car and drive to Louisville (its a 4.5 hour drive) and still be at work the next day. The part that is odd is that no one at United thought that it would be better to figure out alternative transportation for their employees than creating a pr disaster. It was Chicago to Louisville, you have to believe there was some other way to accomplish their goal. I am sure they could have paid for another airline's ticket to come out ahead.
  3. QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 10:49 AM) Lightsaber rings? Marry me you will.
  4. QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 11:42 AM) The White Sox have never mentioned selling the team (or moving?) since Comiskey Park needed to be renovated or replaced. That doesn't stop cub fans from hoping that the Sox and their fans leave town. Selling the team has started coming up, most directly the Trib article talking about JR telling his son to sell the team in the event of his death.
  5. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 11:13 AM) I want to say that it is for the extra year of service. Anyone else think the Sox will be aggressive in trying to sign him to an extension very early (let's say by next season) trying to buy-out a few years of free agency? For what I have read about him so far, I think he will fall into one of two camps. Either he has full and complete confidence in himself to hit free agency and get a $500 million contract, or he falls more into the Frank Thomas mold where he is awful with money, and would love an extension early because he needs the money. No idea which one he is.
  6. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 10:51 AM) May 14th is the date for Yoan Moncada. That would be for another full year of service, not for Super 2, correct?
  7. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 11:00 AM) Experimenting with random prove-it or lose-it AAAA types on a rebuilding season is exactly what I wanted them to do. You may strike gold like Philly did. Asche could prove it, or then LIriana will come up, or Garcia. None will really impact the 2017 White Sox, but maybe some could be a long-term starter. Again, with all of these guys if you strike gold on ONE of them, it is a win for the organization. If we get a Esteban Loiaza out of the bunch, the Sox win.
  8. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 10:34 AM) Cody Asche is the exact type of in-between s*** that is an extremely stupid, non-committal way to back into 77 wins this season. If we're trying to lose, throw some dog on the roster. A real dog - some guy who is a never would be, not some guy who vaguely resembles a AAAA player. If we're trying to win, sign someone real, who actually works for the park he plays in, not another Beckham type with zero pop and no defense. I imagine he'll go 3-4 with a couple of doubles in a couple games in May and accidentally win a game or two for us catching the "wrong end" of the variance Then we'll DFA him I guess that's sound baseball strategy A second ago you were arguing how awful he is and how anyone from the minors is a better, now he is going to power us to 77 wins? If Asche powers us to 77 wins, he is going to have some real value on the trade market.
  9. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 09:13 AM) http://finance.yahoo.com/quote/UAL?p=UAL United stock already down close to 4%. $865 million dollars just disappeared into thin air. Over $200-400 extra they wouldn't incentivize to wait for another flight, the idiotic CEO's comments, and pissing off all of China and 90% of anyone who's ever flown United in the past. Great work. United will probably sue Chicago Aviation and those security officers. More lawyers getting rich... And there it is. Penny wise, pound foolish. Even if it took 10k in incentives to get this guy off of a flight, it would be worth it. Even if it turns out the guy was totally in the wrong for some reason, UAL has to know that in the age of social media and omnipresent cameras, perception is more important that reality.
  10. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 10, 2017 -> 07:54 PM) super 2 deadline needs to hurry up. I think it's May 20th this year. The problem is he already has like 30 days of service from last year, so you have to add to that.
  11. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 10:07 AM) He kinda dodged the question and didn't give a direct answer but in a way he did confirm interest in Robert. Until he is cleared, I don't think a team can give a direct answer to him.
  12. QUOTE (Soha @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 10:12 AM) I agree with this. And on top of that, there's almost no circumstances where a pitcher headlining a deal for Q is acceptable. The Sox need to bring bats back if they move him. I am the biggest bandwagoner for hitting on Soxtalk, but even I can recognize the difference between getting a top notch pitcher, and getting one with gigantic flaws.
  13. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 09:54 AM) Hahn said in his interview with WSD that if someone skirts the CBA rules to sign Otani and then extend him before his arb years that the league would come down very hard. To be fair, true or not, there is no other answer for Hahn to give.
  14. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 10:08 AM) Why is Cody Asche on the roster? 1. They need to fill an MLB roster without rushing guys to the majors. 2. Guys in minors need seasoning. 3. Service time on younger guys in minors. 4. He was once a top prospect so why not. 5. He probably won't be on this team come June. 6. If he sucks, he helps lose games in this tanking season. /thread
  15. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Apr 10, 2017 -> 10:40 PM) They're going to be fine going forward. I'm really high on Glasnow. I am scared to death of Glasnow. That walk total is a huge redflag, like a huge K total for a hitter.
  16. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Apr 10, 2017 -> 05:27 PM) How do you know there isn't? This guy has 1200 at bats that prove he can't hit. Sox have a bunch of guys raking in AAA who haven't had that chance. Why give the chances to the guy they know can't play? The pessimism resides with those who believe that Asche is the best the Sox have, this side of Moncada. Don't lump me with you pessimists, please. My pessimism resides, not with the players, but with a front office that has shown over the years that talent evaluation isn't exactly their forte. Who? Tell me who. Who is this miracle player we have that has the ability to step in and be better than Asche? The easiest way to put this is that Asche has done more at the major league level, than the rest of our minor leaguers have done at the minor league level. The bolded is the answer to your own question. The Sox organization knows that the guys they have either can't play, or they don't want to start their clocks in order to save another year of service. They aren't going to give chances to guys who can't even play at the minor league level, let alone at the major league level. The fact that these posts are being made with glittering generalities, and not real names tells me that there is literally no one who fits the description of what you are asking for.
  17. QUOTE (ptatc @ Apr 10, 2017 -> 04:25 PM) Did you live through the teams in the 70's? This stretch is nothing compared to that. If people didn't give them up then, they probably still won't now. The patience factor might matter to other teams, but I think the Bears are a little different. The no-shows in 2016 tell a difference story.
  18. QUOTE (yesterday333 @ Apr 10, 2017 -> 04:23 PM) we weren't getting swanson or bregman... even for sale. those teams are depending on them in the majors this season and that makes them more valuable. nyy isn't competing this year so why give up your top prospect and pit is stubborn and depends on prospects. its a little more complicated than just throwing out the top names. We wouldn't have gotten Moncada for Q either.
  19. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Apr 10, 2017 -> 03:58 PM) What I'm essentially saying is a powerless hitter with no wheels, average on base and poor defense has no chance of developing into anything Even a .150 hitter capable of jacking the ball 17 times out of the park on pure muscle would produce more runs than this guy could and we might see something out of that person that might be more valuable than a dead end guy in a spot Who?
  20. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Apr 10, 2017 -> 04:02 PM) None of those players...yet Remember Torres was dealt recently from the Cubs when they were in contention and really needed Chapman to solidify the back of their bullpen...a similar situation could happen at the deadline when a contender needs a starter Yet Chris Sale got those kind of players right away.
  21. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 10, 2017 -> 03:15 PM) This isn't the first year the Bears have been bad though. Draft has always been a pretty big topic here, never seen so few people care especially with a top 3 pick. Not criticizing everyone, just seems like NFL's stranglehold really is weakening. It isn't the first time, but it is starting to add up to a lot of bad years in a row now. The Cubs winning isn't doing anyone in Chicago any favors with giving fans patience with their organizations either.

  23. QUOTE (yesterday333 @ Apr 10, 2017 -> 03:45 PM) Isnt the fact that albies has been offered already say that we can get value similar to sale? Also Glasnow... Both top 10 prospects. I think we are just being picky about what we want back for our last BIG piece. There is no rush to make a deal, especially if we think his value will increase at the deadline. If the Pirates offer really was that, it is absolutely telling that the White Sox were able to get both Moncada and Kopech, plus a Basabe from Boston, yet no other team with a top rated farm system is willing to offer their best position player for Q. No Meadows. No Bergman. No Torres. No Swanson or Matain. That right there shows the market believes there is a pretty large difference between Q and Sale.
  24. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Apr 10, 2017 -> 03:36 PM) I've been asking that for a month. There no upside. He fulfills none of the requirements for being on this roster. He's not someone who can be peddled; nor is he someone who has a future. I think it's likely an extension of a FO bad habit of loving proven veterans, no matter how bad they are (although they usually favor the ones who were good at some point in their career; not always though - they had a long love affair with DeWayne Wise, e.g.). People keep making posts like this, as if there is someone who is there someone who has a future or some skill that isn't playing. It is just complaining to complain. Even as someone who is about as pessimistic as you can get about what we have done to this point, even I can realize that you are pushing a boulder up Mt Everest here.
  25. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Apr 10, 2017 -> 03:05 PM) My question truly is - what is the upside. In literally a perfect scenario, what does Asche produce? .270/.320/.380/.700 with no defensive upside and potentially a liability? What the hell is that? I think you are way overestimating what anyone else could step in and do right now. This system is absolutely barren of ML ready hitters. Hell even Jacob May shouldn't be here. This is a system just loaded with garbage at the top levels.
