Have fun finding a 2026 FA outfielder

Look. I have no idea what is going on in your head right now, and am really avoiding responding you to because this is completely unproductive and ruining multiple threads with this. Again, run along. -

Apparently you haven't heard of Sasaki? -

I act like? You are the one acting like this is the very last opportunity in the history of baseball for outside talent acquisition, especially when the main guy in question is a posted foreign player, who wouldn't have made any list two years ago about upcoming free agents anyway, just like this list is now. But no, you keep on rolling along there. Chase those windmills. -
Which is always a possibility for pitchers. It's why penciling in a list of pitchers years down the road is a fools errand.

It's almost as if player development is the most important thing going forward with this rebuild and learning how to draft and develop internal young talent is more important than the free agent market. Nah, all the Benintendi's!!! -

This is exactly what I was thinking. -
Any longer term Sox fans can tell you the Sox fan base is very fair weather. Put together a product worth seeing consistently and they will be back. They always do. But it isn't like an extra half a million tickets in 2025 hinge on this team signing an international SS that almost the entire fan base has no one knows who is. This year is going to be bad. Really bad. A Benintendi level deal or 3 doesn't change that.

I will say this deal gives the Dodgers a couple of more pieces that Sox could be interested in with the extra pick and a highly regarded OF prospect. A deal could form around an OF prospect (DePaula/Sirota), one of their young Latin SSs (Vargas/Morales) the pick, and maybe even a 40 man guy they want to free up or a guy almost out of options. -
Kenny actually operated a legit farm system in his early days.

And it is quite literally how we got here

29 votes for the expansion dollars versus one vote for the market. Tell me how that works out. You keep talking about greed for expansion dollars, but the ignore the valuation of a south side franchise. 29 teams have an incentive here that the Cubs don't

The idea that we are 3rd tier free agents away from being even mediocre or entertaining is just absurd. There is no one that is saving this disaster of a season. The sooner people wake up to reality, the better. No one wants this, but it IS happening. The only question is will the Sox do what they need to at the bottom to fix things, or will they continue to half ass it to win a couple of more games now, only to lose a lot more games in the long term. The wanting Getz to operate like Hahn stuff is astounding.
-
That's 40 wins we need to make up just to get to .500. a bunch of C list free agents isn't doing that. This team has more holes than a prairie dog infestation.

To me it be really, really, really weird that every single year Marco Paddy came back to the Sox and said there isn't enough guys to sign down here, take back this couple of million dollars. That decision almost certainly came from higher up, but how much higher up is the question. It almost felt like an intentional strategy to leave the DR on the table in exchange for maybe getting Cubans in the current year, or the Sox refused to negotiate with the younger kids and because of that were cut out of most negotiated with most kids because they were already signed. Whose strategy and directives those were is very important here because if it was Jerry refusing to commit to 13/14 year olds, that same guy is still in charge.

And you are angry. Quit making up stuff that I didn't say and run along.
-
Where are you getting this stuff from? I was correcting an inaccurate post and this is what you responded with? Literally none of any of this was said. You made up something to yell at.

-
Balta is right that the Sox would lose a high pick.
-
Yeah, here is the story from the beginning of this off season. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/10/each-teams-draft-compensation-for-losing-a-qualified-free-agent.html
-
I am pretty sure if signing teams hit the right qualifiers they still lose draft picks, but it isn't the old transfer of this exact pick from one team to another. The signing team loses a specific pick, and the losing team picks up a pick based on their qualifiers.
-
And as has been pointed out many times, MLB controls teams moving and could easily preserve 2nd teams rights in Chicago with an eye on an easy expansion fee.

I worry about him being more like Tim Anderson in that the leg injuries have cost him that fast twitch explosiveness that made him special. Same with Eloy.

Depends wholey on who picks OL in front of them. If the top 2 are gone, it's a disaster.
