  1. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 26, 2016 -> 08:18 PM) He's 25 and just out of A ball and rule 5 eligible. Whiffed again... How are those proven veterans working out? Seriously? Have you seen Dioner? The fact that we got a live body for him is f***ing amazing.
  2. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Aug 26, 2016 -> 03:50 PM) Show me your rigorous analysis that leads you to believe this is a fact. Show me yours that it isn't.
  3. QUOTE (captain54 @ Aug 26, 2016 -> 04:32 PM) You've continually referred to the fans as whiny and complaining…. Pretend that's not what you're insinuating with your comments… but that would be wrong…I'm sorry... that's disrespectful… and uncalled for… Thanks for the lesson though on the how franchises work, the impact of the bottom line, the fan bases and so forth….awesome Maybe someday you'll learn that the respect you dish out, is the respect you've earned... The irony of course being when I hit google, the only person I could find referring to fans as whiny, was you.
  4. http://www.baseballamerica.com/chat/?1472226696 Greg (Chicago): Could you see Alec Hansen making your top 100 list? Ben Badler: If you had asked me two months ago, I would have said, no chance. Now, I don't know. Hansen has always had terrific stuff—it's not like he's just beating low-level hitters with a bunch of smoke and mirrors that won't translate at higher levels—but the difference between his results in college compared to what he's done with the White Sox is so striking that it's hard to know how to balance the two. We'll probably make more calls on him than anyone else over the next few months trying to figure out what to make of him going forward.
  5. http://meadowparty.com/blog/2016/08/26/klawchat-82616/ Biscuit: Read a few reports last year that Adam Engel had made some swing changes in the AFL with great results, allowing him to finally unlock some of his hit tool. Have you heard whether those changes have stuck? Stat line does not seem to indicate any sort of improvement. Klaw: I thought it was a dubious claim and that his tools overall were too light for him to have any impact. Frank in Chicago: What has Alec Hansen been doing differently since his college days? I like this version. How many years away is he? Klaw: Hoping to see him next week if schedule and weather permit. The White Sox sahy they’ve cleaned up the delivery. I was afraid he wasn’t healthy this spring, but so far so good on that front.
  6. Blake Hickman ‏@BlakeHickman18 Second & last sim game of the year tomorrow. It's been a long road but its not over just yet. Excited to get after the offseason workouts.
  7. The Twins are looking for a baseball ops president. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/08/twins-looking-for-president-of-baseball-operations.html
  8. Dan Hayes ‏@CSNHayes 9m9 minutes ago #WhiteSox for 8/26: Eaton 9, Anderson 6, Abreu 3, Morneau DH, Frazier 5, Narvaez 2, Garcia 7, Shuck 8, Saladino 4. Sale 1.
  9. If they plan on having Burdi on the opening day roster, there is no reason for him to not come up now.
  10. QUOTE (captain54 @ Aug 26, 2016 -> 02:58 PM) You have a person of authority on your board that apparently thinks it's cool to call out loyal/die hard fans, who express any sort of skepticism toward the current ownership.. then gets incredulous and goes into attack mode when confronted with this blatant and insulting display of disrespect This is a great board.. I learn a ton from many knowledgeable, savvy fans… I don't know southsider2K5 from adam… Possible a face to face meeting could result from a handshake and a sharing of a beer and some Sox chat…who knows? I have White Sox coursing thru my veins… I'm still in possession of my little league glove signed at old Comiskey, by little Nellie Fox from 1960..I still haven't recovered from the Tito Landrum shot in the 10 inning of Game 4 of the ALCS in 83 Nobodies gonna tell me that I can't be critical of the ownership.. I've earned that right… And I don't need anyone to tell me how to be a proper fan.. Ugh. I know you are a lost cause here, but for the sake of clarity. What fans want to do is up to the fans. They can do whatever they want to do. What I have posted about over and over and over again, is the impact that has on the bottom line of the franchise, as compared to other franchises who don't have as high of a transient fan factor as the White Sox do. I can't help if it you and a couple of others want to turn that around, internalize it, and make it a personal thing. The fan base is the fan base. The numbers are all there in black and white. Those are facts that can't be disputed. That absolutely effects how this franchise is run, and the decisions that are made regarding its future. Pretend it doesn't if you like, but that would be wrong. I won't even bother with the irrelevancy of your fan litmus test.
  11. QUOTE (hi8is @ Aug 26, 2016 -> 02:30 PM) Here's something for you both to consider: What is your continued engagement with each other providing for yourself? This is a great point.
  12. QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ Aug 26, 2016 -> 02:32 PM) CFL salaries are a fraction of what they are in the NFL. The biggest stars in the game might get 250k a year, also the CFL regular season is half over right now (it starts in June). It's not that the CFL isn't popular in Canada (it is), they don't have the massive TV deals the NFL has. I don't mean for the money. I mean as both leverage, and a chance to play while flipping the Chargers the bird.
  13. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 26, 2016 -> 02:11 PM) This is probably true. What is the biggest indicator this election? I think they said college degree was a bigger signifier than gender, religion, anything. Some of that would of course be affected by the age swings, but one thing with the lack of a "third place" like church is the views of people being segregated not by race but by class. There is a pretty huge racial divide.
  14. QUOTE (captain54 @ Aug 26, 2016 -> 02:03 PM) I JUST..literally JUST posted, and reminded you... that I have dealt with JR and there is no hate in my heart for this man… Here's what follows.: This from the guy who is crying about being called a JR hater for routinely hating on the teams ownership Obviously, you are the last person that should be coaching people as to their comprehension skills…. Your actions speak louder than your words here.
  15. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Aug 26, 2016 -> 01:34 PM) At 6:30 a.m. you said this to a poster: "You evidently can't handle a debate without resorting to insults" And then at 12:57 p.m. you said this to that same poster: "Apparently comprehension really is a fleeting skill." After being insulted and misrepresented many times, yes I made that observation. And as another one who loves to jump in with those kinds of actions, I am not surprised that you again jumped in to try to take another cheap shot.
  16. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 26, 2016 -> 12:02 PM) Unless he gets picked 3rd again, his rookie contract will most likely be smaller. That doesn't matter for the mighty Bosa tycoons though. The funny thing with this offset language argument is that so rarely matters anyway, especially with the 3rd overall pick. Could he just go up to Canada and play a year?
  17. QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ Aug 26, 2016 -> 01:14 PM) Abolitionists used religious justifications to do what they were doing too, FWIW Absolutely. Hell I use it today to justify the non-ostracization of "sinners" like gays. Even if you believe something is a sin, or someone is a sinner, it is pretty clear to me biblical that it isn't up to you to judge them. That Jesus dude kind of took care of that problem. The new testament is pretty clear on that whole love thing. But that doesn't stop people from trying. It is just less socially acceptable than ever before because fewer people than ever before believe it.
  18. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 26, 2016 -> 01:03 PM) LOL well if he wasn't a headache he wouldn't be available. He's a bit of a prima donna but he hasn't done anything disasterous. The whole thing about him shoving his sister in a bar brawl was investigated by MLB and they found nothing. There are always rifts and tensions between team mates. The majority of them just aren't known unless it results in an injury like the Butler/Valencia thing. Yes there are other concerns too. He achieved too much too soon and he wasn't ready for it. Always seemed to be uncoachable missing cutoff men showing off his arm , poor base running going through stop signs things like that. His nickname is Wild Horse and he never appeared to want to be saddled. But there is a learning curve for guys like that. It's just never been fast enough nor did it ever appear he wanted to change. You just hope he's been humbled somewhat and is ready to start fresh. Yeah, if there wasn't something decent going on, he'd still be a Dodger. There would also be 29 other teams begging to take him.
  19. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Aug 26, 2016 -> 12:23 PM) All those examples predate the Civil Rights Act. I don't think there's any question that the true right wing of the Republican Party has more influence on the Trump candidacy than they have had on any Presidential candidate in my lifetime. That growing level of influence in national politics is important and worth discussing. Eh. I think the national view of religion is what has really changed here. It used to be pretty assumed that someone's religious views were going to be largely what their political views were based on. I don't think it is a case of this being a step forward towards religion, I think is more of a case of a good portion of the country taking a step back away from religion so it just appears differently. For example, it has been a pretty consistent theme to use the bible as a justification for the separation of the races. It is just today that more and more people have turned their backs on that sort of stupidity. It isn't that this sort of thinking is new, it is that it stands out more today than it used to because it was more commonly accepted. Things like divorce, kids out of wedlock, gay rights, etc all fall under that same umbrella. It stands out more today, but it isn't new. In fact I would argue it is precisely this revulsion towards those lines of thinking that I feel tells me more that people are moving away from those lines of thinking than to it. Otherwise people in large numbers still wouldn't be getting upset about it like they weren't 50, 100, 200 years ago.
  20. QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ Aug 26, 2016 -> 12:26 PM) In modern politics, the GOP always needed those people's votes (it's not like the people who were throwing bricks at MLK ever went away, some of them are still alive), but obviously they weren't comfortable with it. Then here comes Trump blowing everything up. It was pretty telling that the rest of the Republican leadership hasn't said much of anything in response to that speech, like "how dare you call our candidate racist!" like they'd have done with someone like Romney. They just want this over. This is election is kind of the opposite of Romney. The right wing pretty well abandoned him. They knew he wasn't one of them, and they just largely pretended he didn't exist, but they sure didn't actively go out to cut his throat either. A great deal of the GOP has either gone silent to Trump, or flat out is public opposing him. I can't ever recall a major party candidate who has seen more of his own party ditch their Presidential candidate in public.
  21. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Aug 26, 2016 -> 12:23 PM) If he had some good Latin influences like Abreu and Melky to set him straight, I don't see any reason why Puig couldn't thrive in Chicago. He had other Cubans with him on the team in LA.
  22. QUOTE (Tony @ Aug 26, 2016 -> 12:19 PM) Unfortunately that's not really true. On any given night during this election cycle, over 7 million people a night are watching Fox News. That's a pretty big number. I don't know for sure, but I bet the age divide is huge. The older generations probably make up almost all of that number. I feel like the younger generations have abandoned TV for social media as their news source primarily.
  23. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 26, 2016 -> 12:14 PM) That's what I'm saying . You shouldn't be torn at all. The hitting , the fielding, the arm, the excitement level in L.A. and across the nation was huge when he was at his best. One move like that and it changes the whole outlook on what direction to move in the off season. All he has to do is mature a little bit. Right now he is thriving in the non pressure cooker that is the minors. That is what scares me.
  24. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 26, 2016 -> 12:04 PM) Thanks. I have a pretty good Rolodex of writers and connections I've made so figured I'd give it a shot. I broadcast HS games (basketball and football mostly) for about 10 years on and off. I actually just started working as my hometowns Sports Information Director and Webmaster, so trust me I know how hard it is to find good HS sports talk.
  25. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 26, 2016 -> 12:06 PM) Latest reports are that Puig isn't even likely to get a September call up even though Reddick has been terrible with them so far. Puig is also reportedly being a model citizen in the minors. Could just be BS to boost his price but he is destroying AAA pitching. Also reports of trying to give him away are kind of exaggerated. If a guy like Puig can rebound to near MVP level imagine the boon it could be for the Sox. Those opportunities to acquire young talent at semi discounted prices do not come along very often. It makes me wonder exactly what the Dodgers want for him. He wouldn't even have to get back to his rookie year to benefit the Sox a lot. If he got into the .800 to .850 OPS range, that would be a huge shot in the arm for this team over what we have seen this year.
