  1. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Sep 7, 2016 -> 12:59 PM) Depends on the situation. If he is pitching well and healthy at the trade deadline next year I think he'd be worth more than he will be this offseason. Of course the odds of him being healthy and pitching well at the trade deadline are 50/50. I do not believe that he will pitch better than he is pitching now. In fact, to me, this screams the absolute peak value for Miguel Gonzalez. We picked him off of the scrap heap for literally nothing. The Sox have turned him into a middle rotation starter this year. The guy put up a 3.81 era, and a 3.86 FIP. The average starter in the AL put up a 4.47 era. He is also 14 months away from free agency. How much better is it going to get? To me, there are a million things that could go wrong, and not many that could go right. He doesn't have the history of a real front line starter where you get the feeling he can do this annually. The guy was reduced to a minor league contract just six months ago.
  2. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 7, 2016 -> 11:28 AM) Guys get traded at the deadline who are months away from free agency all the time. 1 year is worth way more than two months.
  3. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Sep 7, 2016 -> 11:45 AM) Nice, but this is still the first thing I picture when I hear his name. Way better than this.
  4. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 7, 2016 -> 09:27 AM) I'm not doubting DA as I know he's just posting what he was told but I'll believe it when I see it. Considering the audience is the season ticket holders the team is trying to convince to stick around, this could be an instance of trying to prepare them for the worst.
  5. I love reading stuff like this. The Sox as an organization just get pitching. They get it from day one of the minors, all of the way up to the majors. Reading about how they looked at his pitching from a physiological standpoint, and were able to make the tweaks almost immediately, while 48 other chances were passed up to take him, it just amazing.
  6. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Sep 7, 2016 -> 08:55 AM) Yes there is, you keep him and hope that he keeps pitching like so that you can flip him at the deadline (if there are no plans to trade him during the offseason). At the deadline he will be months away from free agency.
  7. If they are truly rebuilding, there is no reason to keep him.
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 6, 2016 -> 04:41 PM) Called this a couple of days ago...the last thing they want is for Fulmer and Burdi to be rocked in the big leagues the final month, because that's going to be a huge element of their offseason marketing. 1) Fulmer and Burdi are going to be looked at as making two free agent signings 2) Putnam and Petricka will surely fix the pen, unpopular Albers sacrificed 3) Maybe Morneau stays and they have that feel good story 4) James Shields has rededicated himself in the offseason to a conditioning program to strengthen his back 5) New manager will totally change the culture of the team and lift the spirit of the fans 6) Someone will have to replace the equally unpopular Avi... Luckily you won't have to watch any games for the next couple of seasons now.
  9. Which means no Fulmer, no Burdi. Dan Hayes ‏@CSNHayes 19m19 minutes agoRick Hahn says this is entire group #WhiteSox will call up.
  10. MLB Trade Rumors ‏@mlbtraderumors 3h3 hours ago #Twins considering Alex Anthopoulos to head up baseball ops department: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/09/twins-considering-alex-anthopoulos-for-president-of-baseball-operations.html …://http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/...erations.html …
  11. Blake Smith's addition to the 40 man roster means the roster is full at 40.
  12. rickbozich ‏@rickbozich 3h3 hours ago Zack Burdi's first pro season in books -- 51 Ks, 23 hits in 38 innings. He's bound for Louisville & classes, not @whitesox -- yet. #L1C4.
  13. QUOTE (Coach @ Sep 6, 2016 -> 10:44 AM) I know it sounds like a long shot, but no harm in asking. Besides, the Cubs don't want La Stella anyways and maybe they want some cash or a 3 team deal. Who knows unless you ask. What makes you think that LaStella wants to play anywhere but Wrigley.
  14. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Sep 6, 2016 -> 10:26 AM) Sox were first last year in most innings pitched by starters. Not sure were greg's getting that starters aren't going deep into games Yeah, this year, even with the injuries, and the really awful performances by guys like Shields, Danks, Latos and company, the Sox are still near the top.
  15. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Sep 6, 2016 -> 08:16 AM) You keep repeating this ad nauseam but it just isn't a reality. The fact is that nobody goes 7+ innings every start. Out of the 79 qualified starters this year exactly 1 averages 7+ innings per start. That pitcher? Chris Sale. And who's his pitching coach? Oh yea, the guy you're complaining about. The White Sox are 6th in all of MLB for IP by SP, and 3rd in the AL. greg's idea is 100% false.
  16. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 6, 2016 -> 06:23 AM) What does the team gain by releasing him now and not seeing what he has in spring training? Nothing really.
  17. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Sep 5, 2016 -> 10:42 PM) It's a crap shoot to be sure. The risk you run of course by not trading your most valuable trading pieces over the winter is if they get hurt, their value is practically zero. As I've said often there are no easy answers or solutions to stop the culture of losing that has hit this franchise. Mark As opposed to the risk of adding players that bust, which is MUCH higher historically.
  18. QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Sep 5, 2016 -> 10:07 PM) Generally that's true but not always. Regardless, I think most here are in favor of dealing major league talent for prospects, which will still be an option come July. Sure. But listening to what comes out of our front office, that isn't really reality. I think our best chance of one of our front line pitchers getting dealt is if we get a young star hitter position player back in the deal. Go back and look at who we asked about at the deadline... Jackie Bradley, Odor... Those kind of deals can get closed in the winter. It is probably also an easier deal to sell to JR, as they look to have a closer ending date.
  19. QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Sep 5, 2016 -> 09:32 PM) Teams tend to get more desperate at the deadline and many teams actually prefer guys like Cabrera and Frazier on expiring contracts since they aren't committed beyond that season. That's why I think those guys may actually be more valuable next July. It's not like Melky, Robertson, Frazier are having career years. I already said I'd sign Wieters to fill starting catcher and Fowler to fill CF. If the Sox end up with an unprotected first round pick and Fowler receives a QO I may be more inclined to sign Reddick rather than Fowler. Both would provide a nice upgrade in the outfield. I prefer Fowler though because of his ability to play CF. Hopefully the Sox end up moving up a slot from their current position at #11 to #10. Teams also won't deal major leaguers at the deadline.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 3, 2016 -> 10:48 PM) So Shields had some sort of back problem, and Carson Fulmer just pitched another 0 ER outing pitching on the same day. I'll let you guys do the math. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 5, 2016 -> 01:39 PM) Shields (back) could be shut down for season And I am sure step two will quickly follow.
  21. QUOTE (captain54 @ Sep 4, 2016 -> 11:32 AM) Stop yourself already. Just stop. Look at the standings. Any attempt to justify the Sox approach as opposed to casting a negative tone on the Detroit approach. Is here by cast as null and void When people make a claim that really isn't true, it deserves to be commented on.
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 4, 2016 -> 09:53 AM) One of the main reasons they're contending is Fulmer. That's without a significant contribution from Daniel Norris, and then Boyd's been okay as well. Without that talent infusion in the pitching department via the trade market (and the decision to fold in July 2015 despite having Price and Cespedes), they'd be a .500ish team right now. Their record certainly isn't where it is because of Upton. Of course, the problem is that Frazier, Melky and Robertson don't bring you back as much as two superstars near their primes. The also wouldn't be anywhere without a guy named Miguel Cabrera who they backed up the farm system for, and signed two huge deals with.
  23. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Sep 4, 2016 -> 09:18 AM) They didn't sign Frazier - they traded 3 young players for Frazier. That's the problem. And for what end? They aren't contending, so why dump the young guys? Volquez, fine. I actually think Hahn might be able to build a team if he would acquire young players. The few snippets of him using that approach have been reasonably successful. But the model of building through vets that other teams want to trade, plus modest FAs has a very little chance of working even if well-executed. And Hahn's execution of what is a bad plan has been poor. Heck look at the Tigers...they get their best pitcher (and AL ERA leader) via a July trade of a veteran. Hahn has basically sat-out the July trading period, which heavily favors sellers. How do you not get rid of Robertson and Melky? It's mind-boggling. Wait, the Tigers? That is your example? The deal who spent forever dealing their farm system for veterans and then signing huge contracts? Ok.
  24. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 3, 2016 -> 11:21 PM) Sox could have talked Buehrle into pitching for pennies this year and kept Danks and worked with him. Danks could have been no worse than Shields, Albers and the like. Fire Hahn. Fire Robin. SELL THE TEAM Jerry. I'd love to see the basis for this statement.
  25. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 4, 2016 -> 08:35 AM) Actually, another poster has warned us over and over again not to expect anything out of the 26th pick. Of course, Mike Trout was selected just after that. At this point, it's probably better to hold back the "reveal" for 2017, as selling Fulmer and Burdi as being like two new acquisitions will be a key element of the offseason marketing strategy. This is your chance...do you believe Burdi will end up with more career saves for the White Sox than David Robertson? Seriously. Why? Leave each other alone. We don't need this crap in every single thread. Put each other on ignore, stop arguing with each other. Now.
