  1. Even with this streak, the White Sox are still 4th in all of baseball and first in the AL in bullpen ERA. The Cincy pen ERA is 5.55 versus 3.21 for the White Sox. Yes they have had a bad streak, but to equate the two pens, even without Robertson is hyperbole at best.
  2. QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ May 19, 2016 -> 09:31 AM) The only thing Peavy was guilty of was having s***ty luck while he was here. A guy with lesser self=belief would have hung it up with the surgery he went through. The fact he is still a decent pitcher is somewhat amazing and unprecedented.
  3. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 19, 2016 -> 09:03 AM) Sure, but the legal system and law enforcement in theory should be above all of that noise, especially when it comes to the crimes that have been committed at PSU, FSU and Baylor. I understand community folks and schools protecting student athletes as their cash cow but somewhere there has to be a line drawn between that an the law. In larger cities I expect it to be less of a problem than some of the smaller college towns but even that hasnt been 100% true. Its awful, especially when alot of these issues are related to sexual assault. I know you keep harping on those three schools, but the problems are WAY bigger than that, which is primarily my point. It is all about protecting your team at all costs.
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 19, 2016 -> 09:16 AM) Just shut up and play...then you can talk. We heard so much talk out of Jake Peavy, but he never backed it up on the field. Let your stats speak for you. Jake Peavy, the guy who was a Cy Young and 3 time all-star? The guy who came back from a historic first surgery for a pitcher to still put up some big years even as he has gotten into his mid 30's with greatly diminished stuff? Yeah, I'd say he backed it up.
  5. QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ May 19, 2016 -> 09:13 AM) Why's this bad? Pretty much all young athletes do some version of this. Who doesn't want to be the best? There needs to be some level of this in order for a player to believe they can be an elite player, and to push themselves to get to that level.
  6. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 19, 2016 -> 08:19 AM) In those cases its not the "fan base" in the traditional sense, its the community and mostly law enforcement. At FSU, PSU and Baylor, the legal system and law enforcement have been active participants in either ignoring crimes or covering them up entirely. The community as a whole knows that they live and die by the football team's success and therefor its a culture issue, PSU especially. At FSU, law enforcement literally has been a major factor in players not being charged or investigated for crimes they commit. Baylor has shown us that in Waco they have a cover up culture regarding anything around the football team. Thats a much larger issue than fan bases defending programs or even NCAA violations. The money to sustain things comes from the fan bases. Without that, the local support system doesn't matter. For example, if alumni and fan pressure had actually come on the Paterno's, this would have been done a long time ago. Instead they are protected, so the community at large protects them. It all traces back to the fan bases desire to win, and the money that flows from that. The community stuff is secondary out of a desire to protect their cash cow.
  7. QUOTE (Deadpool @ May 19, 2016 -> 12:12 AM) I honestly wish it weren't true. I wish colleges could get past the athletics money and deal with the behavioral issues. The problem starts with the fan bases. If they didn't completely care only about winning, some of the other stuff might matter. Too many college teams are win blind to everything else... Cheating, recruiting problems, etc, don't matter as long as a team wins. They will defend or explain away their programs activities, and go pitbull after another. If people held their own schools to the highest standards, things would change, as schools would be forced into it. Instead money only follows winning, so guess where the incentive is?
  8. So now this has not only devolved to stalker trolling, but deleting the posts after the fact? Come on guys.
  9. Nice DP turn started by Lawrie.
  10. QUOTE (1dog @ May 18, 2016 -> 08:14 PM) Yep. You summed up my thoughts nicely there. I liked the way you changed the wording and everything. Are you available for hire as a publicist or do you just stick to moderating online forums in your spare time? That's what the charity work is for. It is centered around outreach programs through the game of baseball to try to give kids who might not have a positive outlet a place to do something good with their lives, and maybe even save their lives. They rebuild baseball fields, they fund intercity baseball leagues, and programs like the ACE program. So no, I don't see the Sox trying to do good in the city of Chicago as a bad thing.
  11. This is for Hawk... Houston has just killed us with the Kansas City specials this game.
  12. QUOTE (1dog @ May 18, 2016 -> 08:02 PM) Am I the only one that gets annoyed by the half inning long sales pitch for all these charities and stuff? They do this all the time now, it seems. Show the baseball game and commentate on it. I should get paid to sit through this timeshare presentation. MUTE How dare the White Sox want to help some intercity kids. f*** those guys.
  13. Vintage work by Jose on that swing the other way.
  14. Rollins almost hit that one out.
  15. That wasn't even close at second. I wonder if he was sent or went on his own.
  16. The second strike called to Eaton, is a pitch that wasn't called for Latos probably five times in his first inning.
  17. That was a fair ball.
  18. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ May 18, 2016 -> 05:55 PM) Wait, I feel like we have had 3 or 4 threads in the past about this guy We have, but this is new. Nothing wrong with it.
  19. This could be an ideal situation. Not many guys are going to be available for just cash, though with Avi starting to hit, the need for another OF is greatly reduced unless it is someone you can replace Jackson with in CF, and by all indications Hernandez is not that guy.
  20. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 18, 2016 -> 04:27 PM) And Butler is on a bargain of a deal all things considered. Butler could easily be dealt for anything from another star player to a package of top draft picks and young players.
  21. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ May 18, 2016 -> 03:57 PM) Makes no sense to me. Anything outside of balls and strikes and foul/fair calls should be reviewable. Pretty sure fair/foul can be reviewed.
  22. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 18, 2016 -> 03:26 PM) He was a reliever his first two years. Pitched great in the Cape. Has been pretty good this year as a starter. Definitely not the track record of Rodon/Fulmer. He lacks refinement on his secondary stuff which isn't surprising given his trajectory. I would be pretty disappointed if he was the pick. I do think he's the lazy pick for the analysts who don't have a beat on the Sox. I don't get the feeling they'll take him. Agreed. Hudson seems to fit the old narrative... The Lance Broadway era. With all of the talk about catching I have seen around our system, I have to imagine Collins, if they think he can stick behind the dish, has to be a guy they would love a shot at.
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 18, 2016 -> 03:21 PM) Isn't safe vs. out a judgement call? I can understand balls and strikes, but they review catcher's interference. They review baserunner interference. Why not batter interference? In the eyes of major league baseball? No.
  24. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 18, 2016 -> 03:18 PM) I wonder why it isn't reviewable. I would think it would be pretty easy to determine on a replay. No judgement calls are reviewable.
