2016 Cubs catch-all thread
QUOTE (Deadpool @ May 17, 2016 -> 09:04 AM) No, it still doesn't. It would probably take most of the Cubs' 5 top 100 prospects, but not Bryant. The Halos don't really hold any cards on this. If they don't trade Trout, they're still completely hosed. Anaheim holds all of the cards here as they have zero reason to trade Trout.

Sox Re-Acquire OF Jason Bourgeois
QUOTE (Tex @ May 17, 2016 -> 10:41 AM) Esteban Loaiza is the greatest example of buying low and selling high in all of MLB history. And that isn't far from hyperbole. Seriously. We got him for $500k. We got a Cy Young-ish season out of him, and then traded him for Jose Contreras who turned into the ace of the World Series run.

Sox Re-Acquire OF Jason Bourgeois
QUOTE (GreenSox @ May 17, 2016 -> 08:48 AM) Lots of front-office apologists who refuse to look at facts, I see. Here's another fact: TWO playoff appearances in 16 years under this front office. The list is long: Ritchie, Garcia (1/2 year rent), Swisher, Vasquez, Edwin Jackson, Samardzija, Peavy and Frazier. Only Thome could be considered a positive, but if you factor in the fact that jettisoning Frank was part of that move, it is closer to neutral. Bourgeois is 34, has an OPS of .627 in .708 major league at bats. To use him for anything other than Charlotte filler would be beyond belief......except that this org. loves its veterans. Heck Leury is 25 and has an OPS of .823 in Charlotte this year. That list is awful. On what planet was Freddy Garcia a loss? Peavy we gave up nothing for. Frazier has been a HUGE addition to this team. We aren't in first place without him. Now let's see the list of all of the failed prospects the Sox traded away for those players.

Jason >>>>>>>>>>> Hawk
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ May 17, 2016 -> 09:59 AM) I wish the resident fan base hater/basher would not misquote other posters on this site. I never said anything like this. I said three things: Harry Caray had a positive impact on Sox attendance during his stay with the Sox, a view obviously agreed to by the then-Sox ownership because they paid him huge bonuses tied to attendance. I also said Harry Caray managed to have that impact despite rather minimal exposure on a suburban radio station for awhile and Channel 44. But my broader point was that Harry Caray would have accomplished expanding the Sox fan base the way he impacted and expanded the Cubs fan base had he remained the Sox announcer on WGN. With the power of the superstation at his disposal, he was primarily responsible for the Cubs becoming a national treasure on WGN. The outstanding job he did selling the Cubs and Wrigley Field on WGN translated into an extraordinary boost in attendance, and the Cubs continue to benefit from what he started to this very day. If you choose to deny that, SSK5, that's your problem, but it remains the truth. What also remains the truth is that it was a colossal mistake for the current ownership to let Caray go in the first place and to forego WGN in favor of SportsVision. HUGE, HUGE mistakes by Jerry Reinsdorf & Co. There is no denying that. For anyone interested, here is a great article from a few years ago summarizing what is my point of view. You'll see it is quite different from the silly attempt by SS2K5 to try and paraphrase my opinion. http://kentsterling.com/2013/07/15/chicago...lk-to-the-cubs/ LOL, so you aren't saying that the difference is Harry Caray, but you go on and make this whole paragraph about Caray being the difference. Can we also not pretend that with TribCo owning both the Cubs and WGN, that what you are imagining was even possible? The irony of course being that the Cubs eventually followed to CSN, having lost none of their fan base, and are about to try to create their own network, and still won't lose any of their fan base.

Vacation/Travel Thread
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 17, 2016 -> 09:13 AM) Any ideas in Canada for a 3-4 day trip in August? I've been to most places I want to in the US and obviously Europe is out of the question. So leaning towards planning a trip to Canada where I've never been but I don't even know where to start. If you are in Chicago, Toronto is an 8-10 hour drive, as is Niagara Falls.

POLL: Ezio Auditore needs to change his name back
There should be floggings for name changes for posters after they have been here for so long. Its either that or they should have to moderate game threads.

2016 Cubs catch-all thread
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 17, 2016 -> 06:33 AM) Mike Trout's 5 most similar players through age 23: Miguel Cabrera, Hank Aaron, Ken Griffey Jr, Frank Robinson, Mickey Mantle. He'd most likely be the best player ever traded. A package headlined by Kyle Schwarber doesn't even get a conversation. Starts with Kris Bryant and Addison Russell in my opinion. I wouldn't call him Babe Ruth just yet.

Off day ruminations
QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ May 16, 2016 -> 10:19 PM) Since the Sox intend on pitching Sale against the Astros (why I don't know they could bump him back a day and pitch Q) the match up's don't look great against Kansas City which had a rain out tonight and will probably change their rotational plans. Mark Because you don't bump your ace.

Sox Re-Acquire OF Jason Bourgeois
QUOTE (GreenSox @ May 17, 2016 -> 07:46 AM) It's Extremely accurate in trades where Sox acquire an accomplished player. It's been true since Kenny Williams started making trades and Hahn has continued the tradition of vastly overpaying, if not amped it up a notch. LMAO

2016 Cubs catch-all thread
QUOTE (Deadpool @ May 16, 2016 -> 06:20 PM) Maybe. You look at what the Marlins got for Cabrera (and Willis), and you realize that there's no winning moving the best player in baseball in his prime. The Cubs, Dodgers, or Red Sox could potentially get Trout without moving an MLB ready player. It has been done before. The Tigers took on salary to help out that deal because the Marlins were having a fire sale. Anaheim doesn't need that, unless the Cubs are willing to take back Pujols too.

Jason >>>>>>>>>>> Hawk
QUOTE (Deadpool @ May 16, 2016 -> 06:38 PM) Honestly, I'm not sure what we're arguing about anymore. Did this start with the claim that Hawk is as important to the White Sox as Harry was to the Cubs? I honestly can't remember. Love Jason Benetti, though. The resident ownership hater claimed that the difference between Sox fans and Cubs fans bases today is Harry Caray.

2016 Cubs catch-all thread
QUOTE (chw42 @ May 16, 2016 -> 03:08 PM) There's a chance those guys combined don't put together enough WAR in their whole careers to match one season from Trout. If I'm the Angels I'm looking for at least 2 cost-controlled established players and a handful of prospects for Trout. The only way a trade like that can work for the Cubs is if they trade Bryant/Russell along with Schwarber, Soler, and Baez. Yeah, for Anaheim, that deal has to start with an actual star major leaguer. Russell or Bryant is the starting place of that deal.

QUOTE (shysocks @ May 16, 2016 -> 08:54 AM) Odor cut Eaton off and knocked him over as he was advancing on a throwing error last week. He is dirty as f*** and has no room to complain about sliding. http://www.sbnation.com/lookit/2015/10/3/9...lide-disgusting He also dropped down and threw from down under at Bautista on that play.

5/15- White Sox at Yankees
QUOTE (wizeguy57 @ May 15, 2016 -> 03:46 PM) Have to come out and win tomorrow. Can't let this turn in to a 4 or 5 game losing streak. This division will be a dogfight all year. Nobody is going to run away with it. I promise you then won't lose tomorrow. Bet the house on it.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ May 15, 2016 -> 03:33 PM) I'm not a big RV fan but how about getting guys out when you're called upon? Not gonna win many games when 3 of the 4 relievers you use give up runs.
