Is Tim Anderson Ready?
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ May 26, 2016 -> 12:18 PM) I just don't see the logic in this. I think we all agree that Anderson is going to struggle initially so why hold back the process? If we plan on contending next year, it's going to be the same thing next April as it is now. To me, he's the Sox best option to be a useful ss this year and he's proven to have the mental capability to survive some struggles to bring him up and let him adjust against the best competition out there. So it doesn't hurt the team and him now. Why would you want to replace a guy who sucks, with a guy who will probably suck more?

White Sox draft picture getting clearer - reports on Blake Rutherford
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 26, 2016 -> 12:09 AM) Yep, Keenyn Walker, Jared Mitchell and Brian Anderson. Not to mention Trayce Thompson. And signing Dayan Viciedo. Though Walker should have an asterick next to his name. He was taking with the #47 pick. Second round pick Spencer Adams was taken with a lower overall pick than Walker was.

Is Tim Anderson Ready?
QUOTE (gosoxgo2005 @ May 26, 2016 -> 11:59 AM) Why is that the answer? Circumstances have changed. If the team weren't competitive, then stow him in Charlotte until 2017 for service time reasons. They are, however, but with no thanks to J-Roll. We know what Rollins is at this point; an over the hill short stop with limited range who has struggled mightily at the plate as well. Anderson might not prove to be any better should he be called up, but at least there's an element of the unknown. Who knows, maybe he gets called up and throws together a solid .260/.310 slash line all while swiping bases. Bare minimum, Saladino should start AT LEAST half the games. He provides + defense and is every bit as effective offensively at this juncture in their careers. Because you want to do what is best for Anderson and the franchise on a long term basis. Releasing a useful player, and slotting a young one in the middle of a pennant race who has a history of struggling to start off each level with high strikeouts and no walks isn't a recipe for success for either Anderson or the White Sox today. Bring him up in September, where you can mix and match his ABs in better situations, and then if he wins the job in spring training, let him get his real struggles out of the way in April, with a lot less attention on him.

QUOTE (Dunt @ May 26, 2016 -> 10:39 AM) The Dodgers are bringing a 19 year old with less than 300 IP and we are worried about bringing up a 23 year old with over 1300 ABs lol Because they aren't remotely the same anything.

I know he isn't the same Jo Noah as years past, but I don't see how you can look at the effort level differences between this season and the previous one and not feel like Noah being gone was a large part of that.

Is Tim Anderson Ready?
Every time this question is asked, the answer is still September. Anderson has a history of struggling for a significant period of time to adjust to each level he jumps to. Leave him at AAA until rosters expand unless a short term injury at SS would give him a short stint as a nonpressure preview for him, instead of just handing him the job in a pennant race.

2016 Catch All Thread
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 26, 2016 -> 09:16 AM) It's an interesting conflict and I know my wife's talked about it. How much of schooling is about teaching behaviors versus teaching the material? A "absolutely no late work" or "heavily penalized late work" policy will discourage a student from finishing work they're late on--they might learn a lesson about doing it on time (or maybe they won't!), but they won't learn the course material. And of course that now ties back into many teachers' evaluations being based on testing and student growth, stuff that just measures how much material they're learning and not timeliness, classroom behavior, etc. I do believe that school education is more than just what you learn from a test. Meeting a deadline with timely work is something that everyone is going to do no matter what job they do for a living. To me that is a critical lesson that is much better to learn as young as possible.

Sources: Competition committee agrees to changes to strike zone, inten
This is going to force the high fastball back into vogue. Most major leaguers can't hit that with the upper cut swing that is used by most players today. I wonder if those move backfires and quietly goes away.

QUOTE (Deadpool @ May 24, 2016 -> 08:21 AM) He's a first ballot HOF. He's one of the greatest hitters of all time. His similarity scores are Hall of Famers and he hasn't played his whole career in the MLB. He is an absolute first ballot HOF player in my eyes.

QUOTE (Tex @ May 23, 2016 -> 10:10 AM) Moved the kid from a 31 for the marking period to a 70. It was the major grade for the marking period. I do not take off points for being late, my focus is on the lesson and the student learning the material. You don't think teaching timeliness of work is important at that age?

Vacation/Travel Thread
Not nearly as sexy, but I just got back from Washington DC on a FINRA conference. The best advice I can give to anyone who has never been there, check in with a local Senator or Representative before you go. What they can do for you in terms of tours is about a million times better than going and doing the general tour groups. If you are a history geek like I am, the city was amazing. Such history at every turn, and so much to see.

Do you suffer from Social Awkwardness?
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 24, 2016 -> 04:59 PM) I just fart. Usually a good conversation starter (do you smell something....looks in the circle where I am laughing hysterically). In all seriousness, I think most people have some form of discomfort dealing with new situations (only natural). I am great in an environment where I have a comfort zone with people and when I don't, it all depends. I do tend to insert foot in mouth quite often (which one would think my wife would be used to by now, but evidently she isn't). It also depends on the topic and sometimes I can come off as uncompassionate when people are having a vent / b**** session as I usually don't care and think whatever they are whining about is not worth whining about (but that depends on how well I know the person). It is called an ICE breaker, not an ASS breaker...
