  1. If my math is right, this is the 8th (or potentially 4th biggest) contract the Mariners have ever given out. The M's have given out now at least 9 contracts bigger than the biggest White Sox contract in team history.
  2. It is interesting to watch people trying to quantify risk in baseball. There have been many different iterations of this over the years, including the old abuse factor. To me the biggest red flag has always been previous injury history.
  3. This is a solid breakout. The good ones have a healthy respect for talent, even if it is on the other team. There is nothing wrong with that at all. Again to me (and as someone who does this as a hobby since the early 1990s) it shows that you are being honest with the folks who took time to listen to what you have to say. It shows you have a respect for them, and your opponents, and most of all for the game being played.
  4. That's just it. A good announcer can RTFS (read the friendly scoreboard) and adjust accordingly. It's like the dude who get a tech celebrating a dunk while down 40 with a minute to go for a 2-18 team. Time and place bro.
  5. Dude went through two of the best educational institutions in the country for HS, and still never learned. He may have just punched his ticket out of the NBA. The injury stuff was already starting to push him out. This won't help.
  6. He's in the best possible position. He gets plausible deniability for anything bad, and gets to be a hero if/when he ends them. In my lifetime, the same families have own my favorite teams. JR has owned the Sox and Bulls, Wirtz's have owned the Hawks, and McCaskey's have owned the Bears. For the most part, all three groups have seen their wealth become primarily their team, instead of something independent from their team. The Wirtz's are the only ones who own a real cash based business of the three. I am sure we end up vastly disappointed, but I am sure ready to try something new.
  7. I would be surprised to see him go TBH. Loyalty seems to be the most important trait of a Sox employee.
  8. Here's the thing. I think guys like Hawk were announcers first, and Sox fan's 2nd. Yes, they were going to try to promote things, and show things in a positive light, but they weren't going to insult our intelligence with obvious BS. That's not John, and I think that's why he rubs people the wrong way. He's a promoter first, and an announcer second. On top of it, we have had some of the best of all time sit in that booth, and we realize when this isn't it. You can't force feed people into happiness. The harder you push, the more skeptical it will be. The Us vs Them thing just makes it worse. We aren't fighting Nazis here, we are watching baseball. If it is bad baseball, tell us it is bad baseball. Don't piss on my head and ask me to thank you for the rain.
  9. I thought I reset it in the admin panel, but yeah, follow the previous post if it didn't work. I also tried to figure out how to get back to last post preview instead of first post preview, but I couldn't find it.
  10. It's weird that people are now mad that Soxtalk recognized Colson is way better than advertised at SS.
  11. Yeah that one was just dumb
  12. The Sox won their World Series today, we should all be celebrating.
  13. This is a franchise that has the 2nd most losses in MLB history in the previous 2 seasons, and 3rd most in the previous 3. They have proven they know how to lose very well. That's literally it.
  14. Winning games? Hahahahahaha Hahahahahahahahaha
  15. The Dodgers are spending billions on top tier free agents that need spots. We are making room for Tristan Peters. We are not the same.
  16. Teams do this with the 2nd and 3rd tier players.
  17. Can we at least consider the Ol Yeller treatment?
  18. New thread, who dis?
  19. Don't knock the Amish. Unlike the Sox org, they are great at building things meant to last.
  20. Hyping up a post hype prospect.... sounds like someone else I know....
  21. Especially if Shane Smith is figured out
  22. People could be complaining about complaining.
