Is “The 78” Dead? Or even more alive? Fire announce plans for SSS

I always find this ironic from people who moved 1000 miles away for better opportunity. -
Crochet Trade Outcome Tracker
southsider2k5 replied to Look at Ray Ray Run's topic in Pale Hose Talk
And in plain English, the White Sox were going to trade Garrett Crochet at some point if he was at all successful. News Flash: Jerry Reinsdorf is never going to sign off on the type of deal it took to keep Crochet long term, especially with his injury history and TJS already on the books. It was never going to happen. The question was never going to be what happened if the Sox kept him. The question was could Chris Getz have gotten more for him, either at the time he was dealt, or would it have been worth betting on his health to hold up and his asking price to go up over time. We all know what I think of Getz's ability, but I wouldn't have been willing to bet that kind of a high stakes return on Crochet's future health. Betting on a guy like Dylan Cease who has a history of taking the ball is one thing. Cease had took the ball every single turn for three straight years with the White Sox, good for 170 IP+ each of those seasons. You bet on a guy like that. We already saw what betting on Luis Robert to stay healthy looks like. Argue the return all you want, but the assumption that Getz had a choice here is one I can't get with. -
Look, when it comes to Andrew Benintendi, I couldn't care less. He has two years left under contract, and is probably getting about to the point where the Sox have historically been able to dump a deal like this, whether he plays well enough to be traded, or he just gets DFAd. Essentially he is down to 2/32 left on his deal. If he wins LF, cool. If not, too bad. He's not going to be a part of the next winning team, so his job means nothing going forward. Baldwin isn't going to be a guy who plays the same position every day. His value is going to be playing 3/4 spots a week to give guys days off. His defense needs to get better, but that is doable. Nothing about his defense is like Benny's arm that you really can't fix it. Sosa and Vargas are great potential LF targets. Both have had OK bats, and maybe taking away the weakest part of their game allows them to play a bit better even. I will worry about Braden Montgomery when he gets here. If he is good enough to force someone out of a position when he gets here, cool. If not, too bad.

Garrett Crochet named Opening Day starter

I would categorize bumping a thread from a year and a half ago to rub it in people's faces as whining, especially coming from someone who gets upset when disagreed with.... some might even call it trolling. -

Nothing like coming in hot on an old thread bump. -
It isn't often on Soxtalk that a thread goes exactly how you would expect it to. Thanks.

Getz 2025 Grade: your vote matters.

Maybe we need a White Sox shutdown? Jerry is already defunding them. -
I would also rather save LF for one of the no field hitters, such as Vargas or Sosa.

Yet you keep responding to him like your job depends on it. -
2025 International signings thread

Well that was a joke you apparently missed. Stand down. -
He seemed to have success with guys who didn't suck, and got success out of guys who hadn't always shown it. Talent was definitely an issue during his time here, as I don't care who the Pitching Coach was, most of the pitchers on the roster were going to suck. No one is turning guys like Cannon into a front line starter.

Leave it to White Sox people to continue to s%*# on their own. I wish I knew why we continue to operate like classless buffoons.
-
To be fair, for about 42% of the season, this team wasn't on normal TV. Going to guess that much like attendance, apples to apples viewership was flat to up a little.
-
And it probably means Getz doesn't have nearly the amount of control that we have been told either. Neither has been able to make changes as needed, and instead we get this.

This is Chicago for God's sake. Dude is asking for his bribe. If he gets what he wants, Sox Park would happen there. Let's not act like this bit of Aldermanic theater hasn't been going on for the entire history of Chicago. Aldermen wield the power to shutdown projects in their districts as a hammer to get what they want from something else. Of course he is "Going to take some convincing". He's looking for a new pet something. -
I am honestly surprised no one has tried him in gadget plays as a back or wide out sweeps, or something to get him the ball in the open field.

The White Sox will also bid 300 million. Wait, what? The bidding is in dollars, not Yen? Nevermind. -
For as much s%*# talking as has happened about former players, that is a pleasant surprise.
-
Apparently Getz did not think this year was worth a B.
-
I think his value will come from being serviceable in like 5 positions instead of below average at 1.
-
So glad he is free to run the organization as he needs...
-
Well after my rant in the other thread, maybe the Sox see the need to have coaches instead of over the hill players acting as coaches.
