More of a generalized fear of his injury history returning to haunt us, versus his inning ramp up.

Well the best indication of the ability to do something is the history of having already done it, so after definitely being wrong on Crochet's stamina last year, I wouldn't be surprised to see him at 150 IP this year. I still fear for injury, but less than before.

What could have been
That at least is a bit more realistic, but I get it.

What could have been
Not to mention we would have had to extend Sale at market rate AND we would have suffered through a lot of pretty big injury years, and during the meantime we would have had to give a market rate extension to Carlos Rodon, while still trading Jose Quintana at his peak value and performance (while on his cheap extension) and still managed to be in the position to draft Garrett Crochet. It might be a fun thought exercise, but too many wild variables for it to be a realistic one.

Montgomery story...
Two articles, and still no one asked about his injuries and hitting a fastball.

This honestly makes it worse because the "list" of reasons why greg would be wrong, was 150% wrong.
-
What could have been
I see no realistic scenario where all four are in the organization at once. For example, if we don't trade Sale, why do we trade Quintana to wait a few years for Cease to get here and break out, with Sale and Rodon on a big contract?

SkyWayMacDonalds said we are signing Jose Abreu for veteran leadership. Oh wait, that isn't better.

And we know that the Sox will absolutely lean on players to play through injuries, or leak news about how they aren't team players to the media once they leave.

It's what we all have to hope for. Essentially we have to hope that the replacement for himself that Getz hired/s is light years better at development than he was.

In theory, a front loaded contract would make a ton of sense if Garrett wanted to move some of his future earnings forward, while taking a slight haircut on future earnings. The main problem here is ownership seems to think we are the Oakland A's when it comes to payroll, plus we have zero future in terms of a complete offensive team which is currently projectable in the next three to five years to turn Crochet into something other than 1987 Nolan Ryan or 1972 Steve Carlton in terms of putting up insane pitching numbers on historically awful offensive situations.

While it was entertaining to see the usual suspects lose their collective s%*# over a throw away comment, the truth is right here. Dude had a big leap going into this year, and a big fall this year. He had well reported problems hitting a fastball, and well reported back problems. Of course we have had a complete lack of reporting on how either of those things is going at this time. Could he not gear up for velocity because of his back problems, or are these two separate things. Of course, no one is ever going to actually ask any of these questions, but really it is the key set of things to how Colson moves forward. Until those things get played out, this is a great exercise in confirmation bias.

Have we seen any other non-tenders yet?

Ryan Fuller Hired as Director of Hitting
The distinction of phrases like "let go", "fired", and "not brought back" are mostly meaningless to me because they are more related to contract status and press release writer than anything else. What it comes down to is how important is this guy to your organization. The Orioles thought that Fuller was replaceable as an assistant hitting coach. Regardless of what termination terminology you want to attach to his change in employment, The Orioles didn't want Fuller working with their players anymore. If they wanted him back, HE would have been the one to have to leave. But that didn't happen. So the fact remains that the Sox hired someone that the Orioles didn't think was good enough.

This is how I see it for sure. It is essentially a gambling exercise of how much you like a guy vs his likelihood for being selected. Pitchers definitely seem the most likely to be picked, especially if you can be stashed in the pen and brought along deliberately and quietly.
