Can the this team be competitive in 2026?
southsider2k5 replied to thxfrthmmrs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This should tell you how far behind the pen is, not isn't. We have one guy who might be a back end, if everything goes right (last year it did not) shut down guy, and none who are really the classic 7th/8th inning guys and definitely no big time lefty shutdown arms. Vasil seems to be a bridge guy who covers innings in the middle. Leasure is a middle guy. Maybe we get the big arm out of the one Rule 5 guy who can bring it, but the odds are pretty small there too. -

Yes it has nothing to do with how many games the pen has given away. It has to be something else. -

I don't know what we get out of Burke and Kay, but it is typically a bad idea to expect a lot out of a guy in his first season off of TJS, especially for someone who already has a below average velocity. -

What context is needed? This is a bullpen that is so bad, it has caused the team to preform under their expected record by about 20 games the last two years. There really hasn't been any substantive changes from the last year to this year, so I wouldn't expect that to change until the people out there do. -

This bullpen is, and continues to be, historically awful. Even getting back to "average" would involve massive overhaul of the people out there. -

I think an 80 win best case scenario exists assuming they keep Robert and he is healthy. Realistically I think they fight to get out of the 90 loss range. -

You need a bullpen for that to happen. -

The more we try to pretend things are different, the more Jerry tries to tell us they aren't. -
Which never has to happen if Rick gets his first choice, Bryce Harper.

They will have to do some pretty decent cap work to get a guy like that in here.

Is “The 78” Dead? Or even more alive? Fire announce plans for SSS

According to Popular Mechanics it was a Streeter garbage dump. This is is someone copying the original article which is paywalled. https://theyawningchasm.com/2021/08/02/the-pungent-history-of-americas-garbage-mountains/ -
No more line ups of 6 number 9 hitters.

And to bring this full circle, thanks to watching some PBS/Geoffrey Baer, DYK that the Chicago Bears Soldier Field was built on a (wait for it... wait for it...) literal garbage landfill as it was originally about 150 yards into Lake Michigan, but was where people dumped their trash during the early years of Chicago. They drove pilings through the trash piles and into bedrock to anchor the stadium. -
Sox "aggressive" in mid-tier SP pursuit
southsider2k5 replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yeah, maybe they decide to spend a few bucks to supplement after the last signing, but they burnt the bridge with Giolito. -
Who is trading an equal CF for Robert and why wouldn't they just keep the one they have?
-
Just eat the deal. You hav3 to pay him anyway, so pay him to go away.

And on top of it, you aren't picking a guy at that stage who you don't already have an agreement 99% done with. -
It's almost a Soxtalk meme at this point.

Oh I am certain of what I said. -
Sox related people have been saying it for years.
