Non-White Sox Off-Season Hot Stove
The Cubs should be embarrassed by their insistence on crying poor. While it is annoying when Jerry does it, the Cubs are literally one of the most profitable franchises in baseball, both on the books, and their off the team investments around the ballpark. Them going cheap is a kick in the nuts to all of their fans. They made almost $100,000,000 last year, and then pretended their couldn't afford the top end FAs.

And the I REMEMBER THE 1959 WHITE S9X crowd is very quickly leaving us. We need to tap into the next generations if the Sox are going to remain viable, because lord knows Jerry had burned this once proud franchise to the ground

White Sox sign Reese McGuire, Korey Lee won't make MLB roster
They are paying Andrew Benintendi the same amount of money over the next two years, on the exact same schedule, whether they cut him today, tomorrow, or run his contract completely out with his corpse in LF. Pretending we are doing this move at C because we might be competitive in 2026, and then running Benny out there in LF is completely contradictory. There were literally lectures about the White Sox not being able to afford to replace him, complete with BS about budgets and everything else, yet this move happens and what would have had a MUCH bigger impact on the quality of the roster just rots on the vine for essentially the same cost. You will have to excuse me if I don't just gobble up the company line here. And when everyone gets on about how people react to the teams moves, this is EXACTLY why. Frankly it is insulting to pretend otherwise.

Meanwhile LF still exists.

White Sox sign Reese McGuire, Korey Lee won't make MLB roster
That's literally the point. We COULD do things to improve the team, but we get oversold on a move like this that HAD to be made, meanwhile other moves that would help the team more in both the short AND long term get ignored, but that's NBD because we somehow can't.

You seem to be some off-hand excuse for the front office, that we are supposed to automatically accept as their creed.

White Sox sign Reese McGuire, Korey Lee won't make MLB roster
Then you shouldn't be on a baseball message board telling everyone how great a move is if you don't understand how a 40 man roster works.

White Sox sign Reese McGuire, Korey Lee won't make MLB roster
Yet two seconds later, the team can't afford the same money to make a much bigger improvement in LF, because they are broke and have to stay in a budget because everyone has a budget. While the temptation is to look at every move in isolation and pretend to not understand why people aren't happy, but when the moves actually contradict each other, not looking at them as a whole makes it easy to ignore that. If we are managing for today, manage for today. If we are managing for tomorrow, manage for tomorrow. But don't piss on my leg and tell me it is raining when the moves don't add up together.

White Sox sign Reese McGuire, Korey Lee won't make MLB roster
He's mocking the White Sox for being cheap, not making an actual quantitative statement on the quality of the player based on his salary.
-
White Sox sign Reese McGuire, Korey Lee won't make MLB roster
Or released Andrew Benny and paid his replacement a near league minimum salary instead of blocking that position for no reason.

I agree with you, but probably not for the reasons you believe.

White Sox sign Reese McGuire, Korey Lee won't make MLB roster
Do teams generally hold 40 man roster spots for Spring Training catchers who apparently can't catch? Or is it just the White Sox?
-
White Sox sign Reese McGuire, Korey Lee won't make MLB roster
They have a ton of guys to serve as ST catchers. They didn't hold a spot all winter for that, and if they did, we have much bigger problems.

White Sox sign Reese McGuire, Korey Lee won't make MLB roster
And if you aren't willing to play him to see if he can improve, why is he taking up a 40 man slot all this time when you could have had another guy you like better?

OD 26 Man Roster Projection
This. Plus it sounds like he might have been exposed a bit when he got to high level competition. Let the kid simmer until he forces the issue. No need to rush him to start his clock on what is probably going to be a 90ish loss team.

3/22 vs. SEA, 8:05 CT (CHSN)
For me, most of his future is his health. It's never good when a dude of his size and age is already having back problems, but that is the easiest way for his career to be derailed quickly.

Maybe it could get stretched into something like a 25 A ball reliever, but yeah, the point is this is almost certainly going to be nothing.

White Sox win draft lottery, will pick #1 in 2026
Again, these things typically sort themselves out over the course of a season, but please don't Rodon this if you are the White Sox. They seem to be very heavily leaning Roch at this point, but we have almost three months to still go.

White Sox sign Reese McGuire, Korey Lee won't make MLB roster
Judging by what other back up catchers have gone for, especially flawed ones, I would be shocked if this was anything more than Mr Considerations here.
-
White Sox sign Reese McGuire, Korey Lee won't make MLB roster
Guessing they need the 40 man roster spot with the other injuries potentially requiring other adds. Either that, or they have never liked him, and they finally take the cash considerations for him instead of wasting a roster spot again.

And that none of these moves can actually be wrong. The usual suspects carrying the usual water. A week ago I got told that they couldn't afford the million dollars to replace Benny on the roster. Now this. New GM, same cheap Jerry.

And we sat on Drew Romo all winter.
-
White Sox sign Reese McGuire, Korey Lee won't make MLB roster
A week ago the reason we couldn't release Benny was because of the extra million dollars it would take to replace him on the roster... and then we do this.
