  1. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Jan 8, 2010 -> 03:42 PM) well that's the thing. many jobs are "fixed jobs" not "variable jobs". Meaning that regardless of a company size or growth, no additional positions would functionally be added. (CEO's, CFO's, IT Manager's, etc) Now other jobs, are definitely variable jobs based upon sales/volume etc. (Customer Service, Line Personnel, Sales People, etc) A crude example... you have a company janitor. His job is to keep the office clean. Regardless of the companies size/growth/increase, that position remains stable. He's still cleaning the same space. Now if the company adds more variable workers or grows in space, then there may be a second fixed position added. But until then, nothing changes. The pyramid of a company varies a lot at almost all positions. Really the volatility grows as you move towards the base of the pyramid. Its why you see layoffs in bad times, and hirings in good times.
  2. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 8, 2010 -> 03:36 PM) My guess is that Carroll may be thinking that with Bush and now Mcknight that sanctions and a real investigation arent far behind. Best time to get out is before an investigation. That was my thought too.
  3. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Jan 8, 2010 -> 03:33 PM) keep in mind though... The US Population was 226,545,805 in 1981 It grew 9.78% by 1990 to 248,709.873 It grew by another 11.80% by 2001 to 278,058,881 And it grew by another 10.93% by 2009 to 308,448,604 The US Population is 36.15% larger in 2009 versus 1981. It's certainly going to take a longer period of time, to push this bigger block back. It depends on if the business sector has grown with it. If there are 36% more jobs/employers, it shouldn't make a difference.
  4. QUOTE (1977 sox fan @ Jan 8, 2010 -> 06:23 AM) A great rotation ? That is a bit much i mean what have they accomplished to be consider a Great rotation ? I notice a lot of people here putting all the hopes of this team into the 4 or 5 starting pitchers . Well i hope you are all right because if these 4 or 5 guys don't pitch great we will be seeing another sub 500 year . for me trading one of them of Danks or Floyd in a package to get AGON i would do in a heart beat especially Danks 1 13 win season is not greatness . You aren't really discounting the rotation because of one guys win total from last year, are you?
  5. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 8, 2010 -> 11:38 AM) it was truly shocking how bad Betemit was on defense. Uggla's performance in the all-star game would've been a good day for him. It was little league bad.
  6. My piles from shoveling are as high as six feet on the sides of the driveway.
  7. QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 8, 2010 -> 02:36 PM) We have 3 feet here. Oh sure one (foot) up me...

QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 8, 2010 -> 01:02 PM) LOST a go. No State of the Union on Feb 2 Well at least Barack knows not to mess with things more popular than him...
  9. So according to the latest temps... DFW 29 degrees-Michigan City 28. Now that two feet of snow we have sitting on the ground, that is a different story.
  10. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 8, 2010 -> 11:01 AM) Unreal. Same goes for Conlin. Please, please, please, let's remove Mariotti from voting, just as Cowley was removed from various voting privileges previously. There are some decent sports writers in this town, let's have one of them in there instead. Heck Phil Rogers would do 10 times the job that this idiot does, because at least he can add some intelligent thought.
  11. QUOTE (kane0730 @ Jan 8, 2010 -> 11:18 AM) I'm curious to see the terms of this deal. I'll bet its not 2 years $15 million...
  12. Living down there the best things were the BBQ and the chili.
  13. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 8, 2010 -> 09:28 AM) Marriotti is f***ING retarded http://deadspin.com/5443162/presenting-the...l-of-fame-voter How the f*** does that idiot get a Hall of Fame ballot? Baseball writers have zero credibility now.
  14. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jan 7, 2010 -> 11:04 PM) Did someone say snow? Yeah, you just wait until it is 100 and humid there every day...
  15. Now that is 100% true. The problem was I lived there for three years, so I know the ego.
  16. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jan 7, 2010 -> 10:26 PM) Anchorage Alaska current temp: 32 Fort Worth Texas current temp: 19 wtf? Its karma for you jerks laughing at us poor midwesterners.
  17. Here is the stat of the day. Hawks are 21-1 when they lead after two periods, but 10-9 when they don't!
  18. Supposedly the Angels are putting on the full court press for Chapman.
  19. There is no point in even turning on the second half if McCoy is out.
  20. So are the Hawks the best team in the league right now? Is it even close? San Jose has been the only team that has really challenged us. We have pretty much paddled the East's best.
  21. That was a terrible goal by Tim Thomas, he deserved to get pulled after that.
  22. NIce response down 2-0 to Boston, on the road.
