Official 2009-2010 NFL Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 6, 2010 -> 01:49 PM) Was anyone seriously wowed by Olsen's performance this year? Bingo. For all practical purposes, Olsen has been a bust so far.

2010 Hall of Fame class is Andre Dawson
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 6, 2010 -> 01:07 PM) ESPN just said Blyleven got 74.2% and Alomar got 73.7%. For Bert that was exactly 5 votes short of making it in.

Winter Leagues coming to a close
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 6, 2010 -> 12:47 PM) The Sox season is dependent on who the last guy on the bench is? Right now, the bench looks like: Kotsay, Jones, Vizquel and a backup C. There may be a 5th bench player, which is why they picked up De Aza. So we are talking here about the last bench slot, and one the Sox may not even elect to carry. Who that player is, is not going to make some huge difference in how the Sox season goes. If he is on this team, it means too many guys got hurt. Think 2007.

Holliday gets Paid!
QUOTE (BaseballNick @ Jan 6, 2010 -> 09:19 AM) I'm no expert on the finances and revenue streams of the St. Louis Cardinals, but I don't think they could send a worse message to their incredibly loyal fans than to not keep a homegrown talent that has become the best hitter in the entire game. I do understand that, but at some point the bottom line comes into account, and the Cards have NEVER been a team to spend a ton of money. I don't see them cutting into the bottom line to the degree that it would take to keep Pujols and a competative team. You are talking about something like $45 to $50 million a season for two players, if Albert gets something close to, or more than, ARod. Then you still have to pay 23 other players.

If Kroeger is on the White Sox this year, we will have a top 10 draft pick in 2011.

Failed terrorist attack in Detroit
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 6, 2010 -> 09:45 AM) If the rail system can improve its infrastructure, and get around the current contention issues with freight rail, you will start to see some of that shifting occur. I don't see driving becoming much more popular, unless gas prices decline notably and sustainably. If more and more people start to depend on rail in this country, that is where the terror attacks will shift. This is a bad pun, but very apt. They want the most bang for their buck in a terror attack. In the rest of the world, many attacks have been on rail lines. Since the US doesn't use it as much, there isn't as much reason to attack it. It doesn't have the same level of fear outside of a few metro areas in the US.

Holliday gets Paid!
QUOTE (BaseballNick @ Jan 5, 2010 -> 08:44 PM) I think they only way he doesn't stay a Cardinal is if he really wants to play elsewhere. The Cards draw a ton of fans (about 3.5 million in each of the last six seasons) and have a beautiful new park. Those 3.5 million people come to see Albert Pujols hit baseballs. I think they can afford to pay two superstar players and will likely do so. Do you think they will be willing to spend about $400 million or so do it?

Free Agent Tracker
QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 5, 2010 -> 07:48 PM) I'm just kind of making this comment as an aside, but before 2008, the tigers made a bunch of crazy deals and were assured to win the central. And yeah. BUT, the cardinals seem to annually OVERachieve. Yes, they have the greatest player in baseball, but man, every year since 2004 I've pretty much looked at their roster and been like, meh. And they just compete like hell. Yeah, it put them in a position to compete with us...

Holliday gets Paid!
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 5, 2010 -> 05:33 PM) If this commitment of money means they can't afford to extend Albert at roughly ARod rates, then it's an absolutely foolish contract. I'm guessing this means they know they won't be able to, and are trying to "replace" him.

LOST!!!!
QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 5, 2010 -> 05:37 PM) If that was a swerve, I would have trouble buying it because it seems Jack has a pretty good memory of past patients. Or even better, how about Christian screwing it up because he was drunk?
