  1. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 12:10 PM) ick, I wonder how many teams are going to have to do this This is going to be a big problem around professional sports for the near future. People may slam the Sox for being cheap, but they are going to be in a position to take advantage of teams who need to dump money in a hurry.
  2. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 06:03 PM) I assume nothing. I wouldn't be surprised if more than half of the current players in the league used steroids before. However, I'm not gonna say players are definite users because they are good. Statistically, black people commit a high percentage of crimes. So, using your logic, when you see a black person walking down the street, I might as well assume they are a criminal. What you are basically doing is racial profiling, except instead of races, you are using baseball players and if you're good, you're a steroid user. I guess Jim Thome and Ken Griffey Jr. are obviously PED users. Also, it's a whole lot easier to prove someone guilty than it is innocent. So I'll stick with the good old way of looking at people innocent until proven guilty. However, if I find news about Pujols being involved with steroid trainers and such, that might all I need to give him a guilty verdict. However, the only evidence we got is a lot of people have done it, and he's a damn good baseball player. I'm sorry, I'll need a little more than that before I accuse him of steroids. Did he use steroids? I don't know, maybe he did. However, I don't know and nothing leads me to believe he has. Did I ever say definite users? Assumption and definitive are two very different things. Not to mention in Pujols case, there have been rumors that he has used, and he hits lots of the things that you mention in your previous post. According to your own standards you should believe he is a user.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 04:51 PM) They went 16-11 in June. One good month doesn't make you a good team.
  4. If they bring this kid in and he is really hitting 102/103 with some sort of control and/or breaking stuff, the bidding will start at $50 million and go up.
  5. And now the Senate wants to fine you if you opt of out of the health insurance plan... The interesting part is that since they include the illegals in their numbers of the "uninsured" does that mean the Senate is going to fine illegal aliens for not taking up the Governmental health insurance plan to pay for it? http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/articl...ZHW-ywD996MDGG1
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 06:53 PM) One more bit of data to fire back on the "It's never going to be profitable!" discussion; it appears venture capital sure thinks it will be. If its profitable, then we don't need the government, ie only the top of the country, to pay for it.
  7. I forgot what thread it was in where someone mentioned 10% unemployment, but it sounds like the only reason it isn't there officially is because so many people have dropped out of even looking for work that the statistics have skewed down. The effective rate is just astronomical right now. So wages are crashing, and the amount of people out of work are still skyrocketing, but things are getting better? That is the kind of stuff that McCain got laughed at for during the election cycle. Its too bad we didn't do the stimulus plan correctly so we still had some bullets left, and not have to wait until 2010 for the majority of the money to be spent. http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/sns...0,7733390.story
  8. We need a blueprint of that last time we went against Grienke. Work him over, foul off lots of pitches, and work deep into counts.
  9. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 11:39 AM) I really dislike how they do the inter league schedules... what was up with us traveling to Pittsburgh back to back years? The only interleague team you should face back to back years are your interleague rivals. I also feel the American League needs 2 more teams added to make things more even. They can schedule us with Pittsburgh as many times as they like as far as I am concerned.
  10. A great night for Buehrle. Too bad he couldn't get the SHO.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 04:32 PM) On a different subject, Washington Post Media critic Howard Kurtz today has a classic example of a major issue in the media. He writes a column about whether African American reporters can appropriately and fairly cover the Obamas, and whether female African Americans can appropriately be critical of Michele Obama in particular. Maybe he's right, maybe they truly can't be objective because they're the same race. But what's the one question that doesn't get asked in reply? Can a white reporter fairly cover a white politician? Why of course they can, why would anyone think that's a problem! Being white and male is normal, right!? Which would bring up the next question about Can a vast majority Democratic media cover Democrats fairly?
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 04:42 PM) Assuming Houston can hold a 6-1 lead in San Diego they're going to be tied with the Cubs at 3.5 games back until tonight's Cubs game. That is just awesome, as Houston just isn't very good at all.
  13. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 11:35 AM) Doesn't Levine realize that this info has been obvious for months now? That's not exactly breaking news. When you are reporter who won't cross the company line, it is a big deal.
  14. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 02:09 PM) That's just stupid. According to your logic, every single player in baseball is a juicer, cause there's no way to prove any of them have never taken PED's before. Be skeptical all you want, but to label Pujols and other players as juicers with no evidence except that he's good, that's just crap. I could see if he had connections to a trainer who was suspicious, or he suddenly got really big and started putting up big power numbers, or hell, he was even a teammate of a big time juicer. But there is no evidence of any of that stuff. No, what is stupid is assuming they aren't, when so many before them have been exactly that.
  15. That is one hell of a line from Gavin.
  16. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 12:58 PM) yeah i don't understand this one bit. The Cubs have teams in Iowa and Peoria . The Tigers have teams in Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania The Twins have a team in Wisconsin. The Brewers have a team in Wisconsin The Sox don't have a team within a 10 hour drive of Chicago. I understand the thoughts of grouping the teams close to one another (VA, NC, SC, AL) (with Montana as an exception) but does it make marketing sense to not have an affiliate near your fan base? They like having almost all of their teams within a few hours of each other. It makes movement through the system much more ideal.
  17. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 11:44 AM) That's the same things people were saying about Viciedo And Viciedo got a $10 million dollar contract. Pitchers will always go higher than hitters on the open market.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 11:27 AM) It's always more complicated than that with kids involved. Having been a child in that situation, it is the sissy way out. Divorce, while not easy, is much better than what happens after an affair.
  19. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 11:12 AM) The Hawks have an unreal "farm system". Aliu, Beach, Lalonde, etc. If we lose Versteeg, I feel confident that Beach can step in. He's Eager plus 25-30 goals. THe question becomes is there going to be a slot for some of these guys to learn on the job in Chicago?
  20. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 03:16 AM) Nobody's considering the possibility that his wife could be a giant c***. The continued god angle is pretty funny though: "God is testing me by putting all these beautiful South American women on the planet that I have to fly a few thousand miles to get to." I mean, the whole God Squad thing got pretty well exposed as a farce when we all found out you were f***ing pretty much every women you saw BUT your wife... is there any point in keeping it up? Then divorce her, don't take the d-bag way out and cheat.
  21. Guys we have essentially gotten Jake Peavy, without giving up a soul, with the return of Contreras.
  22. You have to take this game with the Grienke around the corner looking for a little bit of revenge. The bright side is that the pen is pretty well rested with essentially two full days off now.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 10:25 PM) Are you talking about the hernia they diagnosed him with. http://www.stltoday.com/blogzone/commishs-...be-a-habit-too/
  24. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 10:23 PM) Havlat on Twitter. Really? The fact that he was even on this team last year should say it all. They stuck with Marty a long time, through some pretty thin times.
  25. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 10:07 PM) Wow, Rasmus just hit an absolute bomb off of Asshole Bobby Howry to win it for the Cardinals. Good to hear. He must have gotten his diet straightened out.
