Gordon Beckham's Last 15 Games
For my money, if Beckham's average stays here, along with a homer about every 20 ABs or so, plus some progression on defense (mostly consistancy) I will call his 2009 a raging success for him.

QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 12:55 PM) Havlat to LA 8 years 8 mil per. Dan McNeil show....No idea if its true They can have him at that price. A part of me is glad we didn't resign him long term, because I get the feeling last year was a contract drive and that he gets back to being soft in a hurry.

Giants like Dye?
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 05:22 PM) Thome is the most expendable and/or replaceable. But, he is also an integral part of the team and hard to replace in that regards How is Thome easily replaceable? How many 35 homer power hitting lefties, which draw a 100 walks annually, are there out there which are available to us?

The environment thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 10:28 PM) So why are the Europeans building it? It's almost as if having a government totally opposed to the existence of said industries might be doing something to make it unprofitable. (I.e. classic example, the wind power subsidies that appeared one year and disappeared the next over a period of about 8 years. And before you say "Why do they need subsidies!" don't pretend Coal and Oil aren't heavily subsidized in their own way). So what exactly are they doing to make it unprofitable, besides not paying people to do it, which doesn't make it economically profitable?

The environment thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 10:09 PM) In fact, now that i go to their actual data, I can actively prove you're completely wrong. Over that time period, the U.S.'s green tech exports have grown significantly, increasing in size by 5.4% annually on average. The difference is...U.S. imports of green technology have grown by 8.7% annually. Over the period of 10+ years, that difference in growth rate makes up the difference. The market for green technologies, therefore, has grown at over 10% per year. And yet American companies aren't building it. In other words, there isn't any money in it, just like I have said all along.

The environment thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 07:46 PM) Fascinating report here in terms of job creation and environmental policy. Over the last 8 years, the U.S. has gone from an exporter of environmental equipment and technology to an importer of it. In their data, this is heavily due to manufacturing of electrical equipment, i.e. wind turbines, solar panels, biofuels, and high-tech pollution management equipment etc. moving from being built in the U.S. to being built overseas, particularly in Europe. I wonder what happened around year 2000 that made things change? That is pretty interesting to me, because even with energy prices going up during that time, consumers seemingly still aren't interested. But that won't stop the government from telling us what we have to have, right?

Fields vs. Getz
QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 02:44 PM) Podsednik, Beckham, Ramirez all aren't thumpers. We have some other guys more like Getz in our lineup too. The finisher for me is that there is about zero chance Fields could play second base decently. He doesn't have any quickness or range at third, and would actually require more at second. We don't need to downgrade defensively at yet another position.

6/30 Game Thread Sox @ Cleveland 6:05pm CSN
It would be nice to see Clayton take a step forward tonight. He needs to get out of the mode where he is 3-2 on every hitter, much like Danks was his first year up here. Quit being so fine and depend on your stuff to get batters out.

Fields vs. Getz
QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 02:28 PM) I intangibly agree with this, but if Fields was hitting .250 and projected to hit 30 homers, would you feel like you could bench him for a different type of hitter? Maybe if we don't replace guys like Thome, Dye, and Konerko. But right now, we don't need the thumpers.
