  1. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 21, 2009 -> 01:16 PM) MacDougal and Carrasco are polar opposites as pitchers - how can anyone be like both of them? Sucky underachievers?
  2. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 21, 2009 -> 01:15 PM) Here's photographic evidence of MacDougal leaving town. Makes sense to me. We all know MacDougal can never get to where he is aiming... of course he missed the train.
  3. So I did not see Carlos working on his swing at the White House...
  4. Egbert really seemed to make an impression this spring. You really didnt hear his name at all, despite his numbers, and now he is the first call up. Hopefully he can do a solid job in the middle and as a long man.
  5. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 21, 2009 -> 08:00 AM) After sleeping it off, and thinking myself a complete assclown, I am going back to pay the tab today. Solid move. The waitstaff are actually responsible for the bills at most places, so you most likely were taking money out of their pockets instead of the restaurant.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 20, 2009 -> 07:38 PM) Something interesting playing in to the data we're getting on these "Profitable" banks. It seems that, especially amongst the ones we thought were in the worst trouble (Citi, etc.), although they're telling us how they're currently making profits, they're also acting like banks that are very concerned about what's on their balance sheets; dramatically cutting back on lending, esp. over the last couple months. By the Journal's way of counting, they claim that lending in Feb. was off by 4.7% over January. Noteably, that's a raw number, not projected out over a year; it fell 4.7% in 1 month. Over a year that'd be well over a 30% drop if you factor things that way. Whatever the banks are saying publicly, there's a lot more depth to those "profits" than what we've been presented so far. It's hard to know exactly what to make of those numbers, given the recessionary pressures, the movement of money between different types of lending, etc, but it's as interesting of a signal as the claims of profitability. What is happening is exactly what I told you would happen. The healthy banks want nothing to do with the federal governments every changing rules, so instead of taking the money and lending, they are cutting back on lending and tightening their belts. This is a direct result of Obama policy, nothing else.
  7. I'd rather give Lilli a shot over Pods and Owens. I don't know if it will last, but I like what I have seen from the kid, minus the strikeouts. If he can make somemore contact, he could be solid.
  8. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Apr 20, 2009 -> 02:52 PM) I agree with you on the Sharks. I disagree on the Wings. I think those last two games, as meaningless as they were for the Wings, gave the 'hawks a lot of confidence. By the time they would meet them, they should be over this inconsistency (I hope). But these 'hawks do remind me of the Bulls before Phil Jackson. They are missing one piece that could get them over the hump. I don't think confidence is a problem for this Hawks team. The problem is they do not stay fully intense for 60 minutes a night. It has been their biggest problem all year long. You have seen it already in this Calgary series. Most nights they have been able to use their skill advantage to skate around teams and beat them. In the playoffs where all of that open ice disappears, you can't get away with that, especially for a Red Wings type team that has just as much skill as the Hawks do, if not more, and play a full 60 minutes. Don't get me wrong, this is the best Hawks team that we have had for about a generation now, but they still have that last step to make before you can put them in the top few teams in hockey, IMO.
  9. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Apr 20, 2009 -> 02:26 PM) Although I don't like seeing the 'hawks constantly battling back from being down, I have to say it's amazing to see this team mature in front of our eyes. Toews has ice in his veins...Sharpie is back with that sick move and I just loooooove that Havlat is scrapping. The one thing that I noticed was the beatdown the 'hawks were getting in the first period of both games. But, by the middle of the second period, Big Buff, Eager, Burish and even Ladd were taking some runs at Flames players. Basically saying, I know you're bigger, but we aren't backing down. And the fact that Havlat would shove Phaneuf...awesome. If the Ducks can somehow knock out the Sharks...I think we have a chance of getting to the Finals. I will say this hear and now... We are not ready to beat Detroit or San Jose in a seven game series right now. Maybe in a couple of years, but these guys aren't quite there yet. They have got to figure out how to play sixty minutes in order to beat that top tier of teams.
  10. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Apr 20, 2009 -> 09:08 AM) Sound slike he has the same team vetting potential employees as Obama. Or doing tax returns for Obama officials...
  11. QUOTE (Felix @ Apr 19, 2009 -> 12:14 PM) His defense is horrid and he's got terrible plate discipline. If he could learn how not to swing at breaking balls at his feet, he'd be much better off. Which is most likely why the Twins were more than willing to deal Young...
  12. I would say that the minor league success of a few guys might actually determine more of Kenny Williams off season plans than what the free agent market looks like. If guys like Brandon Allen and especially Dayan Viciedo hit big numbers in the minors, you are going to see those guys plugged into spots in the majors. I could see Viciedo opening as the LF next year, with Carlos moving to RF, and Dye either not being resigned, or being the DH.
  13. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 20, 2009 -> 07:58 AM) Yeah, it just doesn't seem like CQ is getting the respect he should. Its because he is white...
  14. QUOTE (RibbieRubarb @ Apr 20, 2009 -> 07:46 AM) I want the Brian Anderson Appletini Mix!!! Mmm Manly...
  15. Everywhere
  16. Hooray for artificial controversy!!! SELL THOSE NEWSPAPERS!!!
  17. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Apr 18, 2009 -> 06:53 PM) No, TOTAL energy costs. Electricity, gasoline, heating (fuel oil and natural gas), and on and on. It has nothing to do with the price of oil. And, according to you, oil's so finite that there's no way it stays cheap - which frankly I see Obama trying to raise prices (see: tax) so that we are pushed into all this alternative energy, which just happens to cost more, which will in turn generate more carbon taxes. Nice vicious circle we're getting ready to create. Fossil fuels are now becoming our offical sin tax. And what they don't talk about is that this will be the tax that kills the poor, because they can't afford the switch.
  18. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 18, 2009 -> 09:03 PM) I think Jon Link is going to find his way up before too long. If we keep gettting s***ty outings from MacD and Carrasco, it is very possible.
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 17, 2009 -> 01:55 PM) I never said MacDougal was pretty good. I said the majority of his major league career he's been pretty good. The point being when someone sucks, it doesn't always take a certain amount of innings to determine he sucks. Hence Marquez. If he was as good as KW said in the press conference when he was acquired, what has happened to him in 5 innings in AAA would never have happened. So you must really hate Wang...
  20. For shame that no one had this up yet! Great game for the boys. Double digit walks, not to mention eight runs. Two out of three in Tampa so far, and we have put an ass whippin on their two bet pitchers
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 17, 2009 -> 02:58 PM) Once again I never used anything as "too small a sample size". I used the innings because I was showing majority which I claimed MacDougal has been pretty good the majority of his career, and you said no.I don't hate on Kenny, I disagree with several of his projections. You never disagree. Using MacDougal sucks is probably your only example, and I'm sure if you asked KW right now he would tell you MacDougal sucks. I'm sure you still think Marquez is Jon Garland II, just like KW said. Maybe they should try to buy out some of his arb years while he's struggling at AAA. He'd probably jump at it. So if you weren't saying something was a small sample size, why mention that MM only pitched 17 innings in 2008? What point were you trying to make there? Calling Kenny arrogant repeatedly is your way of showing him love I take it, explain that one to me as well. I disagree plenty. You just choose to ignore it because it makes an easy arguement instead of the usual odd circular logic. Making it personal is much easier. For example... I hated the McCarty/Danks trade when it was made. I hated calling up Jenks when it happened. I wish we would have traded Brian Anderson years ago. I didn't like Josh Fields, I would have traded him after 06. I didn't like the back up catcher situation coming into this year... I could keep going if you like...
  22. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 17, 2009 -> 02:13 PM) Scott Merkin ain't afraid of no ghost. http://scottmerkin.mlblogs.com/archives/20...endly_ghos.html Now that is good writing. Cowley could learn a lot from Merkin.
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 17, 2009 -> 02:12 PM) If a guy is bad they get lit up in AAA like Marquez did last year and so far this year. He's certainly not what KW said he was. He was supposed to be in the major league rotation. I still like the Swisher trade. Marquez's minor league career WHIP is 1.40. I don't think that transfers well to the American League, but you believe everything KW tells you so I'm sure you're of a different opinion, although KW loves Anderson and gave up decent prospects for MacDougal. I love that you bash me for agreeing with everything Kenny Williams does while I slam Mike MacDougal. Judging by the way you hate on Kenny, I think there is a little bit of deflection going on. I think it is funny that a guy who gets so mad about the arrogance of Williams is convinced he knows better than him. There is a nice irony there. Marquez hasn't been very good, there is no arguement there. But to say a guy can't pitch because of five innings is just silly, especially when a few posts ago you were on someone for using 17 innings as too small of a sample size. Now that is some circular logic!
