  1. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 8, 2009 -> 07:07 AM) WOW. maybe we need to revisit the "teams that will fold or move" thread. wow... that really stings. I don't think they will fold, but they will go back to a small budget team. Either that or Illitch is going to eat $50,000,000 ish a year.
  2. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Mar 9, 2009 -> 08:31 AM) In one of the most awesome moments of my unexciting little life, a friend of mine is about to go into space on STS-119 this Wednesday! Way to Go, Mission Specialist Educator Joe Acaba!!! :notworthy :headbang How incredible. What an honor.
  3. Fields has totally out preformed Viciedo this point of spring training. Not only has he had a huge edge in the field, but he is out hitting him as well. Viciedo has the two impressive long balls, but not really much else. I know its a small sample size and all, but this really isn't a competition, in my mind, to this point.
  4. QUOTE (GREEDY @ Mar 8, 2009 -> 07:56 PM) Ha... as I am sure most people that READ this board understand: All I was doing was pointing out that many people's reasoning for hating Ivan is exactly why they treasure AJ. One poster stated as his only reason for not wanting IRod as: "he is an asshole"; which to me was fairly amusing considering his signature could be mistaken AJ billboard; Who if you polled MLB fans would be the consensus #1 jerk in baseball. I am certain I am not the only one finding the paradox amusing. Too bad some fanboys think this means all I want to do is trash their treasured AJ, when that is far from the truth... they just don't get it. Sounds like someone is overcompensating for something...
  5. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Mar 8, 2009 -> 12:19 PM) What teams are still looking for a starting catcher? I heard Florida had some interest in him. But yea i'd give him 2 million to be AJs backup/ pinch hitter/ late inning defensive replacement- the dude still has a cannon for an arm. The problem is, will he accept such a role? Exactly. If you think about it, we are talking about a guy who has earned about $115 million over his career. The difference between someone offering him say one million and two million dollars a year is negligable. Unless he has Frank Thomas's accountant, it is not going to be a big factor. If the guy is still trying to play in the majors, it is because he wants to PLAY, not sit behind someone and get into a game maybe once a week. Even if the Sox were to offer him the most, I would bet the guy wouldn't accept it because he at least wants a shot at starting. He won't get that here.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 8, 2009 -> 06:11 PM) If any of the banks were actually accounting these mortgage-backed securities for the zero dollars they could get for them on the market right now, they'd already be insolvent. The only think keeping their books out of the red is that they're already doing that. Then they are in violation of the law, and I really doubt that is happening on a widespread basis. If that were actually happening, you wouldn't have this many banks in trouble in the first place.
  7. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Mar 8, 2009 -> 12:17 AM) Forbes talked about this in an interview. Hell what could it hurt. While we are at it, lets suspend SOX as well. Time to suspend Mark to Market. You'll see the financial bounce back quicker with this change than any other I have heard talked about so far.
  8. For all of those who want us to chase Rodriguez, let me ask this question... Why would he want to come to Chicago? He isn't going to get more than 50 games, and a very low salary here. Even if the money is bad else where, someone has to be offering more than a 30-50 games a season back up position.
  9. Well they have an ownership group that can afford to take some losses, the question becomes how big of a bullet are they willing to bite? You could be talking about Coyote-like losses if they go into the season with a $120ish million dollar payroll and looking at an attendence level of under 2 million people. I imagine their corporate sponsors are also flying out of the doors as well.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 03:02 PM) In terms of "total trade value now" if you offered up the exact same package, Gio + Sweeney would probably outweight Betemit + Nunez + Marquez. But, Marquez was only available because of injury. In a couple weeks, if Marquez is performing like he currently is...that will switch around rapidly. Yes, but that is a part of making a trade. You could also say that Kenny wouldn't have gotten Gavin Floyd if his head was clear. For whatever reason he was out there, Marquez was available.
  11. The question really becomes, do you believe the package we sent to Oakland is better than the package we got from the Yankees?
  12. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 01:15 PM) I think the pen shakes out to be: Jenks Linebrink Dotel Thornton Richard Carrasco Marquez Wassermann, Russell and German to AAA. I am going to guess that with the injury potential to Colon and Contreras that the Sox do not keep both Marquez and Richard up here. Judging by the buzz, it might be Poreda and one of Marquez and Richard who go north with the team. I'd rather Poreda start in Charlotte versus, relieve here, but it sounds like they really want Aaron with the Sox.
  13. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 01:12 PM) Australia of course. Stupid question. Commie.
  14. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 01:06 PM) Who better than the Aussie to start up this game thread. Beckham will be starting at 2B today IIRC. So who are you rooting for?
  15. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 12:43 PM) Not going to start a thread, but the game today against Australia is going to be a minor league game camp game for the pitchers. Whisler starts. Scheduled to pitch: Ely, Lujan, McCulloch, Omogrosso, and Torres. Yawn. Damn, that's not a lot of respect for the powerhouse that is Austraila
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 11:23 PM) I just don't see KW trading or making a play for Halladay. Maybe the time will come when he really does go after another "ace" caliber pitcher via trade or free agency, but his mode since the David Wells/Ritchie/Vazquez/Garcia deals has been to target younger pitchers with potential like Danks and Floyd and hope they develop into aces, rather than spending that kind of money and/or giving up the entire farm system to pull a move off. I won't say it's impossible because economics might conspire against the Blue Jays (and the almost unbeatable competition in the AL East) and force them to make a move, but they're not going to get anything back for the likes of Rolen, Wells and even Rios, so they simply HAVE to get something nice for Halladay. Kenny has gone after the best pitcher on the market multiple times. To me, that is more of his nature, and when that doesn't work out, then he looks to add younger pitching. The only reason that hasn't been as true the last couple of years if the economics of having a $110 million payroll was not allowing them to add another $10 to $15 million salary to the books. He has had to look to developing pitchers because he has so much money wrapped up in contracts in Chicago, that he never had before. I would be willing to bet if the economy doesn't kill the Sox this year, Kenny would give up the farm to get Halliday. It is him MO to a T.
  17. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 11:38 AM) its tough to say , bcuz its only been about 6 innings and against the cubs, but hes been impressive. i would have no problem with him being one of the starters. he makes the team, i think. Why would you discount his innings because they are against the Cubs? They are one of the best offenses in baseball.

  19. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 10:28 AM) He's a Yankee. I wonder if Jhonny Nunez has a shot?

    QUOTE (lostfan @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 09:29 AM) So then I guess fall is the time when the leaves on the trees are still red/orange/yellow and there's also a foot of snow? Its the 15 minutes between when the leaves fall, and we get the big snow storm.
  25. Happy Birthday guys
