$700 Billion Bailout
I'd love to see Congress's reactions if we tried to regulate the government like this. Hell their waste factor is bigger than any other industry in the country, yet they are immune to things like Sarbane's Oxley and all of the other regulations they pass on to businesses. http://www.businessandmedia.org/commentary...1119135110.aspx

Catch-All Anything Thread
QUOTE (Steff @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 09:18 AM) LMAO!! I guess. Is it PC to just ignore the friend request...? Pretend like I never got he email. Its normal on facebook to ignore people. You will find that if you were to start getting into groups, people will add you for pretty much no reason. It might be a little different for someone you actually know, but if you aren't worried about what they think or will say to other old "friends", I wouldn't sweat it.

Catch-All Anything Thread
QUOTE (Steff @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 09:08 AM) So I'm on Facebook for months now - so my sister and family in Florida can see updated pictures of Bri mainly - and all of a sudden it seems my entire senior class from HS has now joined. I've stayed friends with (and by friends I mean emailed but saw in person maybe twice over the past 10 years) a couple, and in the past 3 months reconnected with several others who I now see weekly.... anyhoo.... there are some folks that I had no interest in dealing with back then and definitely want no part of now, but yet they are "friending" me...? Isn't that weird? I definitely wouldn't "friend" someone I didn't talk to back then. It's been over 15 years!!! And it's not like they have to friend me to see picture of Bri since my profile is public. Very odd. Its totally normal on facebook.

The Economy, stupid
QUOTE (kapkomet @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 08:45 AM) Wait, isn't this backwards? Dollar goes down, crude goes back up... yes? Yeah, I had that backwards. I was following along with Knolls, I think I just haven't gotten enough sleep lately.

White Sox leaving Tucson
QUOTE (Wanne @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 08:48 PM) I don't know scenario...I've been out here 24 years...and really not all that fond of it. Everybody's from someplace else so you really don't have all that much of a community feel at all. March is BY FAR my favorite time of the year. Sure you can go to NBA, MLB, NFL, NHL or ASU games...but overall I really don't think there's a whole lot to do besides that out here without driving quite a ways. Flagstaff is nice. White Mountains (4+ hours away...I lived up there about a year) are nice. Grand Canyon...meh. Sedona...meh. Best thing IMO is driving for 6 hours to San Diego. Rocky Point in Mexico is farely close too...as is Vegas. If I stay here (which I probably will) I'll be buying a pontoon in the next year or so to head out to some of the closer lakes (that have no trees btw) like Pleasant and Bartlett and spend my weekends drinkin' beer and fishing. It's just so the same all the time...hotter than crap...and a little cool for a short while. But anybody coming out here...March is BY FAR the best month to be here IMO. How far away is the Grand Canyon?

The Economy, stupid
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 03:19 PM) My recent buy long PowerShares Oil Fund agrees. And when the dollar rallies, Crude is going to go crazy. I think you will be really happy with that buy.

Official 2008-2009 NBA Thread
QUOTE (zenryan @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 11:33 PM) good thing the Bulls fired Skiles last season.. I know there was a lot of Skiles hate, but he got every drop out of this team he could until they quit on him, and started play the individual ball that has them at the place they are today. As individuals, this team sucks. They have got to work as a team and out hustle teams. These guys are going no where but back to the lottery as they are set up now. Maybe this year they can get a big man.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 10:51 PM) It was Jeff Bajenaru (sp?) right? Really great guy, big sabermetrics guy too, never really caught on as a reliever in the big leagues though. That was him. He retired last year.

The Economy, stupid
QUOTE (Cknolls @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 03:16 PM) I will tell you this, i am thinking about starting a short position in the U.S. dollar via the UDN(short dollar etf). If/When stocks decide to rally it will put pressure on the dollar. Also when the Fed re-inflates that too will pressure the greenback. Crude Oil calls would give you a lot more upside. Crude and its by products are incredibly oversold right now.

The Economy, stupid
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 03:06 PM) So, predict for us good sir... bounce tomorrow, or a big drop to a new resistance level? We have kept hitting into the 7900's in the futures, (3 times IIRC) if we breach it, I could totally see the big sell of that Knolls has been talking about.

What do these stats tell you
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 02:50 PM) I believe 93 percent of blacks voted for Kerry. So there was a small shift to Obama from the black vote due to his color, just as there was a small percent of white people who voted for McCain due to his color. I'm not denying that this exists on both sides at all. My only point is the fact that the numbers also show that the shift to McCain happened almost exclusively in the south, and you know the rest. It was a joke sir. You know, ha ha, funny? I don't remember where it was posted, but it seems to be me like the areas that had the biggest moves towards Obama were in the North and is more minority populated areas.

What do these stats tell you
QUOTE (YASNY @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 11:35 AM) Ok, I went through the first three pages of this thread and I just had to stop reading. First of all if you really believe that 97 f***ing % of the black voters voted for Obama because he is a democrat, and not because he's black, you are an idiot. Second, if you don't see this as a double standard you are an even bigger idiot. Third, if you really believe that the south is any more racist than the north you don't know what the hell you are talking about. Very few of you have lived in both places, and I have. It's just as bad in Chicago as it is Alabama. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that racism is worse in Chicago that is here in Paducah KY. Some of you people have this pie in sky outlook on things and it is just not realistic. To me, this is why racism and all of the other "-isms" survive as a nice little cottage industry in the US today. We draw way too many arbitrary lines in some places, but ignore the same lines in other places. The more we divide up this country, the longer the "-isms" stick around and become relevant. To me the basic definition of an "-ism", is if you are assigning a line of though to a group of people based on a stereotype, or otherwise lack of direct knowledge. Its telling that it is so easy to label groups of people in this country, and it be completely accepted, even encouraged as some sort of higher level of thinking. This country won't achieve any kind of equality until everyone realizes that labeling entire swaths of people is wrong, no matter what. Anything else is just fostering more generations of "-ists".

Alexei on move to SS, Viciedo...
QUOTE (heirdog @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 11:26 AM) By "claiming" he can be had for a low contract, aren't they making him more attractive to several other teams. I would think that if they were playing possum, they would err on the high end...not the low end. In this case I was thinking more like throwing up red flags to scare teams off... such as why would he be so cheap, are the rumors about his being out of shape true? etc.

$700 Billion Bailout
QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 09:07 AM) The UAW is taking on retiree healthcare costs from GM. That's what's costing GM so much and skewing the number. Wow. I had totally missed that. I think it was about the auto companies where I had read that if every single employee were to work for free, the legacy costs they had would still have the company losing money. That is a huge difference. It also changes the palatability of a bailout, because all they have to do is survive 2009 and their cost structure changes dramatically. I am guessing it is only a matter of time before the UAW figures out a way to pawn off the retirement costs on to the government.

$700 Billion Bailout
QUOTE (Soxy @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 08:31 AM) Interesting article on the Detroit bailout by Mitt Romney. I don't now that I have ever said this before, but I agree with Mitt Romney. You can't fix Detroit without fixing the underlying problems. I think he is the first person I have seen that took to task BOTH management AND employee compensation. Great Op-Ed. If they can fix those problems, then i don't mind the bailout. Without it, we will be back here again in a year or two with the exact same problem, much like the airlines.

Alexei on move to SS, Viciedo...
QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 07:41 AM) If Viciedo is really only gonna pull 4 years / $4.75 mil then something went horribly wrong at these workouts. Either that or the Dbacks are playing possum to try to talk his value down.
