Send Frank to the All-Star Game!
Wow, I am kinda surpirsed there isn't more support for the big fella. He's not my favorite guy in the world, but I would love to see Bud Selig make a commissioners choice spot on the roster for someone who is in the last year of their career (already announced their retirement) to give them one last All-Star appearence as a recognition of what they have done in the game. Granted Frank wouldn't fit this yet, but it is something that should happen IMO.

Soxtalk Softball Part II
QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ May 8, 2008 -> 09:48 AM) That's what I meant. I'll be honest, we haven't priced it yet... I was more getting a level of interest to know if we needed to get serious or forget about it. As soon as we get more solid numbers, I will let you all know. For those who have responded, but haven't said yet, could you say which date is better, or if both would work? Thanks.

White Sox loser
QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ May 8, 2008 -> 10:07 AM) From Reifert's blog: Best part of Mark's bat-to-heater explosion last night was that he used one of Uribe's bats. Juan is very, very protective of his bats and keeps them all down at the far end of the dugout away from everyone else's lumber. So the idea that Mark grabbed whatever was nearest to him -- in this case Juan's bat -- to inflict his damage is classic. WTF...maybe that's kinda like someone who is very protective of their car. Always washing it and waxing it, but never wanting to really use it for fear of doing some damage. What is Uribe protecting? Its not like his bats have done him any good for years now anyway [/obligatoryUribeJoke]

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 8, 2008 -> 07:10 AM) European Vacation sucked fat balls. I don't see why they can't leave Anchorman alone. Standalone it was phenomenal, one of my favorite movies ever. Why can't they just come up with something else? That series was odd in that the series didn't get progressively worse. The Christmas Vacation was almost as good as the orginal, while Vegas and Europe stunk.

QUOTE (knightni @ May 7, 2008 -> 11:04 PM) I did a refresher on youtube just now. They have talent, but they are merely a bar band compared to Aerosmith, The Eagles, Lynyrd Skynyrd, CSNY, Rush, Kiss, Steely Dan, Doobie Bros., America, RHCP, Allman Bros., even the Beach Boys. Not to quible with your list, but wasn't Rush Canadian? And I do like the idea of doing a best American rock bands list.

I was long since in bed, but what the hell happened to Wasserman? Judging by the box score it looks like he got his ass kicked!

Josh Fields on the D.L.
Hopefully his problems have been related to the injury and not to something else. The last thing we need is another all or nothing guy who can't hit in the clutch.

Don Cooper
QUOTE (WCSox @ May 7, 2008 -> 04:09 PM) Yeah, no doubt that Coop has gotten him to sacrifice some velocity for command. That said, one might think that he'd reach back to try to hit 98-99 every once in a while. I can't tell if it's because he's changed his mechanics or if he's just not able to throw that hard anymore. I really do think for Jenks sake, especially with his rebuilt elbow, taking it down a tick might not be a bad play for him.

Indiana / North Carolina primary election thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 7, 2008 -> 07:12 PM) By the way...for all of y'all who keep saying this race is destroying the Dem party...yowza, Hillary and Obama dragged not only the primary total well above Kerry's total in 06, but their coattails hit a down the race ticket. Nice snippet, out of context... The governors race has an incumbant Republican who is running unopposed, and a very tightly contested Democratic primary to be on the ballot against said governor. In other words there was no reason to need to vote for the Republicians governors race. The interesting about those statistics is that to vote for the President race, you had to pick one party or the other to vote on. If you picked the Democratic ballot then you got to vote for Thompson or Schellinger. If the coat tails were so big, why did 150,000 people (or over 10% of voters) who picked up a Democratic ballot, not vote for either one of them?

GOP seeks order to primary chaos
QUOTE (YASNY @ May 7, 2008 -> 08:14 PM) I believe the individual states should continue to have the right to determine their own rules. Because this is not the actual election, this is not a states rights issue IMO. Because the parties are still determining their candidates for the general election at this time, I do believe it is still up to the parties to decide how they want to handle things.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 7, 2008 -> 02:41 PM) That's been Uribe's pattern, though. On the verge of losing his job, he suddenly remembers to not be the Tasmanian Devil, and he hits well. For about 2 weeks. Then its back to old Juanny. Hopefully by then Danny Richar is healthy and ready to go.

Uribe has 4 hits in the last two games now... I think he got the message they were trying to send, at least for a little while.

Lets Give Floyd a Standing Ovation
QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ May 7, 2008 -> 02:00 PM) That curve that he got the K on in the 9th was nasty. He wasn't getting his curve over early in the game. Jon Garland is what I was thinking as well. That ball was 4-6 inches outside, but I will take it!

Lets Give Floyd a Standing Ovation
QUOTE (WCSox @ May 7, 2008 -> 01:34 PM) So, in other words, it sounds like he'll be another Jon Garland: A solid, middle-of-the rotation guy who will be really good at times and not so good at others. And he's not even eligible for arbitration until 2010. I'll take it. In this day and age that is a $15 million a year pitcher. Damned right I will take it.
