  1. QUOTE(knightni @ Oct 6, 2007 -> 12:32 AM) I met a guy from Brazil who was shocked to hear that they were even in the running for the Olympics. He didn't think that Rio would make a serious run at it. Wow, everything in the US media has sounded like just the opposite. It seems like everyone is chasing Rio. A part of me has started to wonder if this story was just a plant for Daley to shake some more money out of corporate donors...
  2. Ugh. I hope the Sox are good next year for no other reason than I don't want to see a return of the attendance threads.
  3. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Oct 7, 2007 -> 08:36 AM) Brian Cashman is on record as saying if ARod opts out, the Yankees will not be bidding for his services. If he opts out the money they get to cover a big chunk of his salary from Texas no longer comes their way. Its pretty big money. In another thread I was thinking Boras can use this with Tom Hicks to get another one of his clients, maybe Andruw Jones a big contract, saying hey I just saved you $10 million a year or so opting out of that, you need a CF.... Cashman's statement may just be part of a game, but if the Yankees lose today and ARod doesn't do much, I have a hard time believing he will be back there next season if he opts out. Its hard to believe a guy with his numbers gets the s*** he gets. He's struggled in the playoffs, but so did Barry Bonds for a while. Someday he'll snap out of his playoff funk with authority. And if Alex doesn't put the team on his back and carry them to the World Series, the Yankees won't really want to have him back. Plus I really doubt Alex will want to play there as brutal as the fans and media are going to be to him. Any other place will seem like a vacation after the NYers are done with him.
  4. QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ Oct 8, 2007 -> 12:15 AM) Around here, I'm hearing Tony's going to Cincinatti. But who knows? There were grumblings about Tony L being brought back to the Sox as a special assitant to Kenny, or an executive of some kind in the Sunday Trib.
  5. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Oct 7, 2007 -> 03:59 PM) Says Phil Rogers... Logic and Arizona execs say different. Who here projected him to become more than a solid outfielder? Young was the one who was regularly tapped with future stardom. Baseball America in 2005 had Brian Anderson rated as the Sox #1 prospect, with Ryan Sweeney as #2. Chris Young was rated #6. Throwing this in as a FWIW, they also had Josh Fields as #4. 2006 they had Sweeney #1, and Fields #2, with Anderson taken off of the list because of his time with the big club. They did have Young rated ahead of Sweeney and Fields in the Top 100 though. http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/featu...s/whitesox.html
  6. QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 5, 2007 -> 05:24 PM) BTW, that is expensive, but great tasting, popcorn. My favorite is the chocolate covered caramel corn And for those of you that don't know, PA lives in a tree. In the category of dating myself... I was in cub scouts the first year that they started selling popcorn as a fund raiser.

QUOTE(The Bones @ Oct 7, 2007 -> 06:17 PM) agreed that this week's episode was much better than the premiere but the driving into the lake thing was just too ridiculous to be believable. That followed by Dwight and Michael demanding their gift basket back was pretty bad.
  8. The irony is that Arizona had Anderson rated above Young as well. Arizona got lucky. Heck who knows, maybe Anderson away from his arch nemesis Ozzie Guillen develops like everyone thought he could.
  9. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 7, 2007 -> 12:03 PM) One of you hockey experts please tell me the Hawks at least HAVE A CHANCE to make the playoffs this year, even as a #8 seed. That's all I ask, I just want them to make the playoffs in a league where almost everybody makes it. Without Havlat, they don't have a chance. They need one big scorer at least, plus a big year from either Samsonov or Perrault to take the pressue off of the kids.
  10. The Sox would never put up the money. End of story.
  11. Released twice in one year?
  12. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Oct 3, 2007 -> 12:52 PM) Stop with the ARod s***. It's not happening. The money just doesn't match up, and the key most forget is Alex has to AGREE to this fantasy. Alex had these quotes less than a week ago. Even if Alex did consider leaving, it would take a huge amount of money. Do you really see the Sox ponying that up? On top of that, the only thing Arod hasn't done in his career is win. Is he really going to sign with a 72-90 team? He made that mistake once. Scott Borass will have Alex declare free agency. Its all a matter of who ponies up a s***load of money to get him.

CUBS LOSE, CUBS LOSE, CUBS LOSE!
  14. Ah yes, Fathom in all his glory. Kenny Williams made a mistake, lets all celebrate.
  15. Thomas's testimony hurt more than anything. Idiot.
  16. Interesting. I didn't think Cave would go anywhere...

  18. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Oct 5, 2007 -> 11:50 AM) That's a cute number. Where'd you get it? Do you argue just to argue, or does it make you feel good about yourself?
  19. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Oct 5, 2007 -> 01:13 PM) Full Article Translation: I have no chance of winning.
  20. Never bet against Rich Daley. The fact his isn't in prision yet should tell you everything you need to know. If the IOC wants to be schmoozed, you can bet Richie will find away to get them taken care of.
  21. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 5, 2007 -> 11:23 AM) There are plenty of people around Chicago willing to shell out probably 5/$60 or more (Konerko money) for the last player this website labeled a "4th OF". The crazy thing is if he were to figure out how to bunt well, and hit for a tiny bit of power, the open market value for those numbers would be in that neighborhood. Look at what Juan Pierre got. Heck if Owens got into the .300 ba, .360 op%, and stole something like 70-80 bases, it is a realistic number. Will that really happen, probably not, but it isn't superfar fetched. If the kid learned how to get down a bunt, he would add 30 points to his average over night.
  22. QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 5, 2007 -> 11:23 AM) read the thread, didn't see Alpha mention any examples which showed a "lack of balls". Pratt suggested that Carter put together the plan to invade Iran, how do you respond to that? We weren't invading Iran, and Carter gave the OK to a plan the military developed. All the hostages lived. Seemed liked a nice outcome. Blaming Carter for mechanical breakdowns and perhaps a poor military plan? I think Carter, like every President, made some mistakes, but a lack of balls? I don't see where. I do see where jumbo size balls have gotten us with this President and frankly don't think it's all that great. It is nice to learn what they're teaching the kids today in history class. I'm realizing that many high school teachers were not born when Carter was in office. Wow, I feel very old. You want to feel really old? 40% of American's don't remember a Presidency without a Bush or Clinton in the White House.
  23. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 5, 2007 -> 10:12 AM) Nope. But if they publish articles like this, I now know to avoid it. Couldn't have said it better myself...
  24. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Oct 5, 2007 -> 09:11 AM) Yea, those hairballs were made by freshly grown cat food in the eco-green-capitalistic-moneymaking system that is the United States. In all seriousness, with all of the hypebole, cute cutdowns, and leaps of faith in there, this could have been written by Jay Mariotti himself.
  25. Usually I'll go for some original material, but this seems apt here... Seriously, my cats puke up hairballs that understand macroeconomics and finance better than this guy.
