  1. Ah yes, love Americans who don't know our actual history.
  2. A million dead people IS the case. Civilization literally was established to stop people from killing each other. Modern civilization established that killing people by neglect is still killing people. It's why everyone over a certain age got a measles and smallpox shot, ending the hundreds of millions of deaths over history from those. Well we had until people started taking health advice from quacks and drug addicts.
  3. It's really not. Not allowing people to opt into killing other people is a hallmark of civilized society.
  4. The Bears can make like 75 million in cap space if they want
  5. But salary IS the point, as is age. Also this person literally can't find a regular starting job because of his defense.
  6. What a mess. I wonder the Bears could still sneak in with a lesser offer?
  7. Pretty sure he gets the right after he has been outrighted by a team.
  8. I am sure he has an opt out, which he will 100% use if he isn't on the roster.
  9. Plus they haven't used any cap recaptures to move back money to free up space, which still allows them flexibility going forward.
  10. Yeah, that draft pick comment was a weird flex. The NFL is all about hitting homers on your draft picks, probably more so than any other sport with the way it's caps and life span of players works.
  11. Cool, then we have nothing to worry about until the 2030s.
  12. Here's the thing. The Sox putting short term money in 1 year/short term contracts instead of investing that money into better and/or more plentiful prospects isn't impressive. In fact it is short sighted coming off of yet another 100 loss season with no hopes of competition. Load me up with interesting guys with 6 to 7 years of control, vs. short term guys who will be long gone by the time this team is good again. Buy prospects, every single chance you get. That's long term planning.
  13. How about first we get an Arod and Jeter, and then we worry about where to play them?
  14. Nice Copy/Paste. I wish we had the same sorts of hands off of my body approach to women's health care, but then the same people go back to pretending to be "pro-life".
  15. It's a few bucks to advance the franchise. It is an absolute failure to do otherwise.
  16. Hence there not being room for a small project to get done here.
  17. Which, again, is the entire point. Jerry is absolutely willing to hurt the team to save a few bucks. That hasn't changed with Chris Getz, Rick Hahn, Kenny Williams or any other hire.
  18. Maybe he should stick to podcasting and announcing. Or is that not a thing anymore?
  19. Again, sell the team. And if Getz doesn't have freedom to spend 800k, that tells me everything I know about how much "better" things are with the change, because the top is still the same block it is always been.
  20. The good news is the Bears still haven't used any of those redoing deals within their cap space to this point. They still have more bullets in the chamber if they want.
  21. It also means that NFL revenues have gone up accordingly, so players getting theirs is absolutely to be expected.
  22. Look at his numbers and compare them to the rest of the league's free agents. Benny is a minor league contract with an invite to spring training for the chance to get a couple of million dollars if he can make the team as a free agent. He has zero value.
  23. Which is also offset by losing someone else to a 26 and 40 man roster spot, as well as the development time lost, and opportunity cost of who could have been playing LF. And if 800k for an extra player makes that decision for you, sell the team and get out of the business.
  24. Carlson 100% depends on his bat, which has miles to go. Penciling this dude into a starting position, and trying to move players around before he has ever taken a MiLB AB, it nuts. Let him simmer first and start to force his way into the picture.
  25. They are paying him whether he is here or not. It's a sunk cost. The contract is guaranteed.
