  1. Of all of the things we have questioned about Brian, I think his baseball instincts and IQ are not one of them. He really seems to get the game. You never see him making a play he should not make. Brian has even gotten much smarter about showing off his arm, and makes sure he hits the cut off man when he is supposed to. BA is a smart kid, and once his bat comes around, people are going to LOVE this guy.
  2. Straight out of the "Its a small world" category of life... OK My Dad's side of the family are Gresham's, and my moms are Lind's, now pay attention as this is kinda important. My mom is a nurse, and has worked at various nursing homes for about 20 years now. The latest place she has been working at, she takes care of a 86 year old second cousin of my dads. My parents divorced over 20 years ago, but my mom kept the Gresham name to minimize problems related to having a different name than her kids. The old guy instantly catches on to the fact that they have the same last name, and they become friends. Saturday mom goes into work, and sees the old guys family with him, so she goes over and introduces himself. She no sooner gets her name out, than the guy's son saids "You are Swede's daughter aren't you?" Swede was the nickname for my grandpa on my moms side (her dad). It turns out that my Grandpa Lind trained this particular Gresham at the South Shore railroad as an electrician on the lines. They worked together for about 15 years, and when my Grandpa retired because of lung cancer, he took over his position as head of the department. Basically the guys who worked the lines were like a family, so he remembered my mom and her two sisters from when they were little, and has a bunch of pictures from working with my Grandpa Lind, plus a bunch of pictures of my Grandpa Gresham, and the rest of that side of the family, and he is going to bring them in next time he visits his dad, for my mom to see. Wild stuff.

  4. I'm sorry, I must have missed the "Are you out of your f@#$ing mind" category...
  5. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 17, 2006 -> 08:02 AM) Sean Tracey for Ryan Wagner. What do people think about that? When it comes to fringe prospects, I have no problem trading a guy for a guy with an awesome arm.
  6. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 19, 2006 -> 08:14 AM) No, you're correct. I agree as well. They both are D's at best in LF, and the big difference used to be Pods hitting... In reality, I see their speed as being pretty close, with Pods being a better basestealer as of now, but as Pablo learns the pitchers, and learns the techniques I see no reason that Pablo can't do what Pods does for us. The only real difference I see between the two players, is that I would like to see my speedster hit lefthanded.
  7. The funny thing is that you can Pablo is actually learning, and slowly improving in LF, with the minimal playing time he gets out there. If Pablo keeps improving in left, with his speed, he could replace Pods before all is said and done.

I have to make this a real quick Happy Birthday and get out of here before security shows up to break up this party
  9. Contreras is an easy pick for regression from the outside looking in, if you only look at his numbers. This doesn't surprise me at all.
  10. Thome was never a bad 1B, you just don't want to give him any chance to hurt himself either, espeically with a solid first baseman who just happens to be able to hit 40 HRs on the roster too....
  11. 10 out of their last 13 28 runs, with no DH. Garland has dropped almost a full run in ERA over his last two starts. :sweep Sox are a season high 19 games over .500
  12. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jun 18, 2006 -> 09:10 PM) As someone who is involved in business and dealing with money I dont see how you can't recognize the total genius of the Tribune company. A blind man could see it in a minute. They can put together a team that is UTTERLY horrible yet they sell out every single game, charge the folks a small fortune for wattery beer, shake down the neighbors for royalties and sell a fortune in tee shirts, caps and stuff. They are making a metric s***-ton of money off this team even though they suck donkey balls. Why on earth would they change anything? Oh believe me I get it. Just judging by rate of return on most capital investments of the present day, I would guess the TribCo is pulling down $20-25 million a year on those loveable losers. The problem they are staring in the face is that if the Sox hammer out another drive deep into the playoffs, or worst case, back-to-back World Titles, there will literally be a revolt amongst Cub season ticketholders. The full effects might take a year or two to realize, but if the Cubs quit drawing 40K a night, and say drop to 30K, they are in big trouble if they wait to long to rebuild. If they wait to deal the guys they have now, they either lose them as FA's or they watch their value plummet as their is no pennant race to drive up their value on the trademarket. TribCo might not know how to win a World Series, but I'll bet they know how to protect their investments. Mark my words, the Cubs will not lose any money, because they are owned by a corporation which is held up to the spotlight by stockholders. If they were even making a low ROR on investement, they would be getting sold as we speak. TribCo isn't stupid enough to let the golden egg go rotten.
  13. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 05:08 PM) You're wrong about politics AND your favorite Beatle! Happy birthday and whatever Sir Paul. I'm sure Yoko would love to give you a birthday hug. And I would love to give Yoko a nice little birthday hug, right around the throat... Trivia bit for the day... Where did Paul McCartney and John Lennon meet? Answer At a church picnic. It can't be a coincidence that my first fathers day and Paul McCartney's 64th birthday fall on the sameday, can it? Once there was a way, to get back homeward, Once there was a way, to get back home Sleep pretty darling do not cry, and I will sing a lullaby, Golden slumbers fill your eyes, smiles awake you when you rise Sleep pretty darling do not cry, and I will sing a lullaby Once there was a way, to get back homeward, Once there was a way, to get back home Sleep pretty darling do not cry, and I will sing a lullaby
  14. Shame on all of you. Laughing at a man when he is down... Judging by the way he has pitched, his back has been hurting him for ten or fifteen years now...
  15. In all seriousness.... Melt it down. The sad thing is, if the TribCo had a brain in their heads, they would punt on 2006, and send Prior, Wood, Zambrano, Howry, Eyre, Dempster, and company out of Chicago for the highest biddings on the open market. With as few teams ready to sell, and the Cubs having a huge number of "name" players, they could load up for the future the way the Indians did when they shipped out guys like Bartolo Colon. The Cubs already have a ton of guys in the farm system, not to mention an MVP canditate in Derrick Lee, but thankfully for Sox fans, nothing like this will ever happen.
  16. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 18, 2006 -> 05:43 PM) Yup, it's been going on throughout most of our government. Just interesting to see the test case of a brand new department and how rapidly the supply of "Former DHS Employees getting rich working with the DHS" has appeared. If only the media were so efficent when it really needed to be...
  17. Ah, the second most beautiful baby I have ever seen
  18. Happy Birthday boys, and Happy Birthday to one Paul McCartney
  19. Good work Nuke
  20. QUOTE(loltrain @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 04:30 PM) Come on guys, you know full well that people who support a team from the south side of chicago mocking detroit is just as dumb as when detroit fans mock chicago. Trust me, its not even close. Try buying a place in Bridgeport today, and get back to me.
