Do we rely too much on homeruns again
QUOTE(fathom @ May 5, 2006 -> 09:32 AM) Great post. When you add someone like Thome to your lineup, you're not trying to play small ball. Except Jim Thome also leads the team in getting on base/drawing walks, and he is an excellent baserunner, dispite his speed, who takes an extra base whenever he gets a chance. I know Thome himself isn't a smallball guy, but he does give the bottom of the line up a lot more chances to get runners over and in, and seemingly has allowed guys like AJ to go from trying to hit homers, to trying to get hits again.

Is D Lee that important
I would definately say the s***ty starting pitching has been a way worse problem. They are out of games quick.

Contreras named AL Pitcher of the Month
It is awesome to see Jose realize his potential, especially after the response he got from lots of people in Chicago. Definately another Don Cooper success story

Anderson's hitting
QUOTE(aboz56 @ May 2, 2006 -> 04:51 PM) Name another team in the majors who hasn't had a single number one pick in the last 14 years make a solid contribution at some point to their big league club. Since 1992, besides Kip Wells in 1998, the Sox have pretty much struck out in terms of first round picks. And they gave up on Wells after a few seasons. Is this coincidence or poor scouting and player development? How many teams haven't had a top 10 pick in 15 years?

Sox sign RP Jeff Nelson
QUOTE(JimH @ May 2, 2006 -> 06:02 PM) My guess is it'll take at least 2 weeks for Nelson to get back in shape. At that point the White Sox (and maybe even Nelson) have a decision to make. I doubt this guy wants to be pitching in Charlotte or wherever for long. Probably by the time he's ready, the Sox are entering the interleague portion of their schedule so that might impact their decision. I am guessing the guy has a standard escape clause that said if Chicago hasn't called him up by X, that he can request a release.

Catch-All Anything Thread
QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 2, 2006 -> 06:00 PM) I'm sure someone can get this for me. I've spent the last 5 minutes searching google for stats from the '04 presidential election and for whatever reason I've come up empty handed. Anyway, I need to know relatively how many women voted or what percentage of the overall voters were female. http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2004/pages/results/ There are no official numbers, this is all based on exit polling FWIW.

Gamethread 5-2-05 vs. Cleveland Injuns
QUOTE(Damen @ May 2, 2006 -> 02:15 PM) See above. We all know you've got to rest guys. But when it's 3 starters at a time, Ozzie is severely hampering our ability to win that day. Does it? Or does it give the starters the rest that they need to be 9-0 when they all start together? Stats like that are worthless, because it insuates that if you started the same 9 guys everyday that the Sox would be 26-0, and that's not true. Lots of the line up changes were due to injuries (Dye, Uribe, and Pods have missed games already), others were due to match up's such as not starting, while some were due to Ozzie wanting to give starters days off, and getting our subs into games so that they stay fresh in case they are needed in an important situation.

Too early to worry??
QUOTE(Allsox @ May 2, 2006 -> 01:50 PM) Yeah, it's Widger's fault that Buehrle left EVERYTHING over the plate in Sea and today in Cle. Widger is the only catcher on the Sox who has the signal for "hanger right down the middle". They never taught it to AJ, and that's why all pitchers suck when Chris Widger catches

Gamethread 5-2-05 vs. Cleveland Injuns
QUOTE(SpringfieldFan @ May 2, 2006 -> 01:49 PM) I am missing the logic here - I really am. Yes, yes you are. The swings that Thome takes, on top of a balky back, plus short rest, short recovery, and two plane rides within 48 hours of each other, equals rest being a good thing for the Lumberjack. Resting him in one game is much better than him tweeking his back in a blowout, and either missing 15 days, or limping through the season with it as a nagging injury. Ozzie isn't stupid, despite the popular opinion on Soxtalk.
