New Tejada News: O's reportedly make a proposal...
QUOTE(daa84 @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 03:18 PM) just a thought before it happens.....can we try to not make this a 25 page thread that contains one rumor and countless pages of pointless arguement? Not a chance.

New Tejada News: O's reportedly make a proposal...
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 03:10 PM) That's some interesting cherry-picking of statistics. Contreras allowed more walks in 05 than Prior did in 03. Should I care? Beats the hell out of me. LMAO!!! You know what statistics get you? The BCS. The games are played on the field and that is what really matters.

New Tejada News: O's reportedly make a proposal...
QUOTE(watchtower41 @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 02:51 PM) potential aside.... which probably could be considered a wash, Prior is much more valuable to Baltimore with his age and ability to fill a few more seats. That being said, Uribe is an obvious upgrade over Perez, and Sweeney instead of Patterson, one would think that more than makes up for what was lost in the deal with the Cubs. He's not worth much if he is hurt as usual...

So much for a "peaceful" nuclear program
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 02:43 PM) Personally, I do believe Iran is looking to build an atomic bomb, because it only makes sense that they should be trying like gangbusters to do so while the U.S. forces are completely tied down and worn out from fighting Iraq, and a bomb totally prevents them from being the next target (they could fund Hezbollah to their hearts content if they were protected by a few of those.) But on the other hand...my intuition is not proof. No document ever presented thus far has given any proof. This document does not give proof - it specifies no sources or methods, there was clearly no danger in its release, and its release serves a clearly political purpose for those out there who advocate strikes against Iran. While Iran having a bomb program makes logical sense to me, I don't feel you can jump to the conclusion that they have one based solely on the evidence we have been presented. All I'm saying with that post is that just because some leak says so doesn't mean that there isn't some motivation behind why we got that particular leak. We should have learned that lesson well with Iraq. So you're saying we shouldn't believe anyone's intelligence anymore because it was wrong with Iraq? I thought that there was tons of evidence out there to back up what you have been saying about that intelligence being wrong anyways, does that exsist in this case? Or is there just conjecture at this point? All I have seen is reports saying they are running a covert program, and Iran denying it. I haven't seen anything actually disputing any of the reports yet.

Official College Football Thread
QUOTE(SnB @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 01:34 PM) honestly, after the amazingly exciting bowl season we've had this year, I have a feeling this is going to turn out to be a dud. I don't know who will win, but I get the feeling it will be a blow out too.

New Tejada News: O's reportedly make a proposal...
Thanks, but no thanks. The Sox are not a in a place where they need to pay even market value to trade Contreras... And with the dearth of good pitching in baseball, the Sox just need to wait for someone to get desparate and then rape them.

Sox sign Mackowiak to 2 year deal
Well hopefully we can come to something with Crede, but I am not holding my breath. It still would not surprise me to see a deal involving Contreras for a 3B, reliever, and prospects.

Draft Order Is In
QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 05:29 PM) Brandon Williams is going to be good. Id say a less polished Lee Evans, and depending on what he runs in the 40, he may be a 1st round pick. If the Bears could get him in the 2nd, I think he would be a very nice slot receiver, and he can return. SB I am going to go out on a limb and say with Bradley coming back, and with Gage and Berrian showing nice flashes late, the Bears aren't going to draft a WR early on... Maybe on the 2nd day of the draft, if at all.

So much for a "peaceful" nuclear program
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 01:03 PM) Stealing another writer's words out of laziness... Are you seriously trying to tell me that you don't believe that Iran is pursuing a nuclear bomb? There is no doubt in my mind at all that they are just continuing something they have been doing since the 1960's in trying to find a way into the atomic club. What evidence does anyone have that they have all of the sudden changed their behavior and are now only looking for something for energy purposes? Heck having the "Great Satan" next door in Iraq only serves to convince me more that Iran is full of s*** when it saids it is only looking for more energy sources with its nuclear program.

Crew Rushes to Get to Trapped W.Va. Miners
QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 11:05 AM) Yet, I think that some people - and I don't mean on this board - are. I'm getting the impression that fake outrage is so often misdirecting the outrage that we should righteously feel towards people who genuinely do us wrong. Don't get me wrong... I am mad as hell about the reporting. Someone needs to be held responsible for this, but at the sametime, the mining company who let this stuff happen, needs to be sued into liquidation. They need to make sure this stuff can't happen again, even if that means driving the cost of insurance so high, that these companies have to make huge safety adjustments to keep in business. Granted a lot of people could lose their jobs as companies go under from the added costs, but it will be worth it in human cost in the long run.

South Park Really Ticks Off Catholics
QUOTE(WCSox @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 10:28 AM) And you can blow it out your ass, honey, because I don't really care what goes on in your family. Fair enough. Women are whiners and whores and I won't bother trying to justify that generalization. IMO, it would be more fair to blame the paltry percentage of the guilty parties than throw the entire organization under the bus. At the very least, it would avoid insulting the vast majority of Catholics all over the world. But, hey, that's just my opinion. Wonderful. Into another fight already I see... It deja vu all over again. Thread closed, congratulations.

Crew Rushes to Get to Trapped W.Va. Miners
QUOTE(Steff @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 10:16 AM) I'd rather him have done exactly what he did and not say anything versus giving out wrong information like the moron Gov did. Exactly. And we aren't talking about a normal workplace here, this is a mine shaft 2 miles across and 200 feet down. its not like you can take a casual stroll over there to find out what is going on. 3 hours doesn't sound too bad to me for getting correct info out of that chaos. It sounds like the CEO was one of the few who went out of his way to get things right.

Crew Rushes to Get to Trapped W.Va. Miners
QUOTE(Steff @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 09:48 AM) Thanks Mike. BTW... the Gov is an asshole. "But late Tuesday night, families began streaming out of the church, yelling "They're alive!" The church's bells began ringing and families embraced, as politicians proclaimed word of the apparent rescue a miracle. As an ambulance drove away from the mine carrying what families believed was the first survivor, they applauded, not yet knowing there were no others. Though the governor announced that there were 12 survivors, he later indicated he was uncertain about the news. As word buzzed through the church of survivors, he tried to find out what was going on, he said." http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060104/ap_on_.../mine_explosion Fry him. He needs to be held responsible for what he said, unlike Mayor Nagin. I want to know who gave him the info, and why he felt that he should be spreading it as fact, when indeed he didn't know that for sure.

Crew Rushes to Get to Trapped W.Va. Miners
QUOTE(Steff @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 09:41 AM) Where are you getting 3 hours..?? The timeline that CNN is reporting shows a 3 hour gap (almost) between the families thinking their loved ones were alive, and them being informed with the real truth. http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/01/04/mine.expl....wed/index.html

Crew Rushes to Get to Trapped W.Va. Miners
QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 09:37 AM) FWIW, the CEO knew 20 minutes after the first reports came out that 12 of the 13 people had died and didn't even tell the family for another 2+ hours. And what did he do? He went and verified the information before releasing it.
