QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 12:20 PM) I heard the +3 are Soxtalk staff there to discuss Jason's future. It all depends on if the check clears... just keep an eye on the Soxtalk paypal account.

Asshattery across America...
See you all don't see it. This is God's way of saying that Pat Robertson was right and we should have taken out Hugo Chavez...

Hurricane Katrina
Did anyone see the recent live footage of the natural gas fire that was raging on top of the flood waters? I saw it on CNBC, but I am sure other networks picked it up. You could see the nat gas bubbling through the flood waters, while the fire on top burned away. It was surreal.

Podsednik most overrated player?????
I would love to go back to our record with Pods on the DL and our respective offensive output, and then compare it to since he has come off of the DL, and ask that writer to explain it.

cell phone service
We are ditching Cingular when our contract is up in November. They sucked worse than anything I have ever seen, and they customer service was worse. We are either going to get VZ or go back to NXTL

Pat Robertson calls for Chavez assasination
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 05:07 PM) I thought it was pretty clear that he was making a joke of the assassination remark.... Hence the :rolly smilie. But I guess I should be a little more obvious with a joke, so that the ONE PERSON who didn't get it, gets it.

Soxtalk Congratulates Brandon McCarthy
Brandon McCarthy just went out there and absolutely pwned the Texas Rangers offense that had kicked the s*** out of Buehrle and Garland the last two games. Think about that for a second. He didn't shutdown the Royals or something, this was one of the best offenses in baseball, and they didn't have a chance against Brandon. Congrats Brandon, but please pardon some of us for feeling a great amount of elation for your first major league win. Many of us have followed your career in great detail ever since you and your dad registered here a couple of years ago, and it feels like we know you. All of us at Soxtalk are so proud to have followed your first win, because it was one of our own that went out there and did it. Here is to many, many more, and a long healthy and rich career as a Chicago White Sox. Hopefully they brought in a forklift for your beer shower so you could really enjoy it

What time is it?
QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 03:20 PM) Every time i hear "what time is it?", i think "game time" I think of the an Spin Doctors song

Peter Warrick released by Bengals.
QUOTE(knightni @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 03:11 PM) Either Warrick or Price would be an upgrade from Gage or Wade. However, they would cost more than the Beras can afford, probably. The thing is, do many teams have much cap money left at this stage of the season?

Big day today
QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 02:46 PM) When I hear KW saying "1917, 1917" I tend to believe that there is no concern for tomorrow. Obviously I don't expect him to dump top prospects for some middle-aged journeyman home run threat. But win it now (dare I say, win or die trying?) seems to be what I hear coming from management. And I think they're right. But I also think if the lead would've been 3-4 games in July you would've seen a more aggressive move on the part of the Sox. That's all. I just found it sort of ironic that there could possibly be a downside to a 12 game lead in July. Not saying there is, just that there could be. But there wasn't. They were in the midst of potential deals for AJ Burnett/Mike Lowell, Jason Schmidt, Eric Chavez, and Ken Griffey Jr, and that is just since the season started. I am just saying the premise of what you are suggesting is faulty. There was no complacency, Kenny Williams has busted his ass all year trying to find that "last piece" to the puzzle. You can bet if people weren't asking for Contreras, Marte, McCarthy and a prospect for any top of the line players, a deal would have been done.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 02:45 PM) Thanks. Again, I don't want to make this about me. I just know that I pissed off a lot of people, and I want to try and help make this place better for everyone. Hell, even if the rules were changed so that only optimistic posts were allowed on this board, I would change my philosophy just so I could continue posting on this great board. BTW, I take it that we're still allowed to criticize Ozzie in game threads? Of course, without the name calling! Slam his actions all you want.

Big day today
QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 02:37 PM) Of course there's a chance. Just as the Sox could lose their next nine in a row and the tribe could win 9 in a row and Cleveland would be in first place before the 2nd week in September. I just don't think it's likely, is all. I think losing 10 of 15 played right into the hands of my worst fears, that this lack of offensive production would catch up with the Sox. But I'm gonna stick with the age old saying: Good pitching beats good hitting. And the Sox have better pitching than anyone in the AL. I got BLASTED by people on this board in July when I created a thread to ask a simple question: could a double digit lead make the Sox gun shy about making a trade? Wonder what they'd say now...? The samething we told you before. The Sox were not gun-shy about trying to make a trade. NO ONE made a trade at the deadline because the asking prices were ridiculous. The Sox tried to make a deal but nothing made sense, I would hardly call that "gun shy". I'd call it a good balance of planning for both today and tomorrow.

Personal Attacks
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 02:15 PM) I'd be lying if I said that what players have said about the site have nothing to do with it. However, we didn't start talking about it til posters and other fans brought it up. I understand what you are saying, but again, we are doing this so Soxtalk is an enjoyable place to come again. You wouldn't believe how sick a lot of the mods and admins were of coming here. There was a reason I quit for a while... It wasn't worth it anymore. And if it can make me stop, its gotta be bad

Personal Attacks
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 02:03 PM) Wouldn't nitpicking also be telling people not to use harmless nicknames when showing the lineups? Or just assuming too much from people... Either way there is a reason that this is happening. If people had been smart and respectful with the freedoms that they had been given on this site, there wouldn't now be a 100 post thread about this, and people still trying to poke holes in it. Is this stuff asking too much? Seriously, why is either people are all in favor of this, or they are spending all of their time trying to see what they can get away with? This should be a simple as respecting the people on this site, but instead we are wasting all kinds of time having to get into nitpicking specifics about what exact phraseology and terminology can be used for exactly which people, and at what specific times, during which conditions, on what planet, in what atmospheric pressure, figuring with or with a waiver from your parents if you are under 18, with what specific lawyer, under what guise, with which particular meaning, on whose team, in which league, taking into account if it is really a sport or not, depending on if your agent approves, at what times of years, in which font and color, spelling, punctuation, language, accent, and/or context is acceptible. Just treat the site and the people involved with it with some respect. I guarentee if you follow that one stinking rule, you will never be suspended.

QUOTE(marsh @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 01:51 PM) Being serious and calling Natalee a whore/slut and saying she got was she deserves is o.k. Joking that Timo and Ozzie are gay because Timo is playing is vulgar and crosses the line. This is common sense? Sounds like the exact opposite. Really I don't think any of it is OK. But I guess that is something we (the mods and admins) would deal with if and when it happened. Any other nitpicking, shades of gray scenarios you all would like to hash out?

Hurricane Katrina
Interesting to note, the rains of Katrina are not that far away from us right now. This has taken a way more straight northerly track vs the trending to the east that was expected. We might get some of this rain.

Could we see Jerry Owens on the team in..........
I don't remember where I saw it, but they said that no one from AA is coming up this year.
