  1. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 08:45 AM) and if ifs were skiffs, we'd have a Navy. The fact is, there are two teams, we are at the mlb average in attendance. There are two teams in NY and the Yankees are #1 and the Mets are #8. There are two teams in LA and the Dodgers and Angels are #2 and #4. There are two teams in Chicago and the Cubs are #6 and the Sox are #17 Of the six teams, who has the best record? Who has the best park? NYC is 3 times the size of Chicago. Anaheim is in LA like South Bend is in Chicago. Plus both LA and NYC have metro areas that are way larger than Chicago. Chicago is the smallest multiteam city in MLB.
  2. Now I get it... there is a 45 minute halt at the 9 minute mark for a final systems/safety check. We are still on schedule for a 9:39 am CDT launch.
  3. for all involved.
  4. QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 08:41 AM) And of course I have a stupid freaking meeting at 9. Hopefully it will be a quicky and I can watch the launch online. for the astronauts to be safe and for their families. I just saw on CNBC that they are going to try to launch at 9:39 so they must have another halt built in, or I read the screen wrong.
  5. And the countdown is on
  6. We are currently at the 20 minute last check hold for the countdown.
  7. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 07:55 AM) I heard it and it wasn't as bad as reported. He attended the Cards game the day before and if anyone hasn't been to a Cards game, it is intense. They really rock their park. Heading to the Cell during a bad game won't compare. He complained that the Cell was sterile and without personality. The same rap we've been hearing for years. He pointed out we have exactly zero .300 hitters and rank almost last in team average. Can't argue with that factoid. He mentioned Pods has zero home runs and 18 rbis. Not certain why that was a big deal. He stated Ozzie should be Manager of the Year. Right now, don't even vote. He's making it happen. The one complaint I was puzzled by is he didn't like the food at the Cell and called it generic with hot dogs and pizza. He was looking for ribs or some Chicago specialties. Has the menus changed since last year? He was complaining about USCF after being to Busch Stadium? This guy really is an idiot then. Busch stadium is a dump. It was one of the worst places I ever saw a ballgame. The fans were nice and smart, but I could never complain about our home park after seeing the s***hole that St Louis is. It is a round cookie cutter stadium, with a couple of extra things done to it. It is generic, the site lines suck, and the air doesn't move in it because there is not an openning for air to flow through. The only thing worse than watching a game in STL is eating the food at the ballpark. There was no choice, and it tasted like microwaved cardboard. After seeing a game there, I could not see why anyone would ever say they liked that place.
  8. QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 07:59 AM) Hell. Send BMAC to Texas for Adrian Gonzalez. That works for me. Either way works for me. I would definately rather have Tex in the middle of the line up vs Konerko.
  9. Check out NASATV on line for the launch coverage. Very cool.
  10. QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 08:20 PM) http://www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/americas/07/...l.ap/index.html I sure hope he wasn't just running to catch his train, which I heard some witnesses thought he was doing. Coulnd't find a link for that info though. Put yourself in the mindset of the British police and tell me how you handle the situation. You have had one day with 4 bombings killing over 50 people two weeks before, then yesterday you had 3 people try to blow themselves up and fail, plus you know there was probably a fifth bomber who chickened out and left his bomb... Now you see a guy in the middle of summer in a winter coat (even if it was just 70 degrees, a little strange) you know that there are still suspects at large from the other bombings who are trying to blow themselves up when you spot this guy. You ask him to stop and he flees into the subway and onto the train. You know that even when you have caught him, all it takes it one push of a button to detonate you and the all of the people surrounding you, so having him pinned to the ground doesn't matter... Now do you give him the chance in the heat of the moment? Do you allow this guy to kill you and dozens of more people? Remember you don't have time to ask his name, check his ID, look in his coat etc. All you know is that he isn't British, he could be wearing a bomb, and he is running for the train. Are you willing to take the chance that he is a Brazilian who doesn't speak English and simply didn't understand you? Are you willing to sacrifice more innocents because you think he might just be scared and late for his train? Are you willing to bring more mockery of your police department because you were afraid to act decisively? Its easy to sit thousands of miles away and pass judgement on an officer for making a snap judgement. Its a lot harder to understand the situation and get into his head.
  11. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 02:23 AM) I dont hate Konerko as a 4-6 million guy... but right now he makes 8 million and in the off-season he is going to get more and he just isnt worth that much money for what he gives. How many veteran guys hit 40 HRs for 4-6 million a year?
  12. A lot of teams want Huff, but it sounds like Chuck Lamarr is a little insane when it comes to asking price. I doubt anything happens here.
  13. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 11:50 PM) If that Burnett deal goes through with Damaso and bmac, I guarantee the Sox have Eyre or another lefty reliever(I just saw some article today that mentioned afeldt) lined up. Hell, Burnett and Eyre would make this pitching amazing to be quite honest with you guys. Getting to Schimdt as you guys know I still felt like he had plently left in the tank when he got killed by Arizona I believe. Every outing he's getting stronger and if I had my way he'd be the starting pitcher to get if possible. Should be an interesting 6 days, all I know is I really want to the 31st to get here all these rumors are making me crazy. I think the order will be the opposite. If you see the Sox get a lefty reliever, the big deal is on the way immediately to follow. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 06:31 AM) Bingo, that means the interest is mutual. With the position that the Giants are in, they have got to be thinking about new players for next year and beyond. They are an old team, and screwed without Barry Bonds. They really need to start planning for life AB, After Barry.
  14. I wonder why everyone they are looking for in Britian and Eygpt is Pakistani then?
  15. QUOTE(Pods70Rowand33 @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 03:58 PM) -asked him about rhode island, and growing up there. -grew up a yankee fan and hated the red sox -asked him how he'd characterize his season so far, and paul said ok. said he's been inconsistant, but as a team its been good. but all in all pretty good -asked him why for him its been ok, and he said just because he hasnt been consistant -asked about what kind of buzz there is in chicago...said it's growing and that the fans like the team. there have been sell outs -paul characterizes the club as pitching...ands says bullpen has been lights out...pods and gooch set the table. -asked who the clubhouse leader is...and paul says everyone has their say, and says ozzie keeps everyone in line. good atmosphere, everette and buehrle have been good. That audible sigh you just heard was all of the Konerko haters who tuned in hoping to find something to complain about...
  16. How much has it changed you as a person to go through the lows and rehab to get back to the level that you were pitching at? Mike Michigan City IN
  17. Personally I am more sick of irrational whiners who bury their heads in the sand with their grudges and focus on a specific stat or narrow band of stats instead of looking at the big picture, while excluding their heroes from the same kind of treatment.
  18. Twins or Indians, all though the Indians aren't good enough. As long as someone keep the A's out, I am happy.
  19. QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 09:06 PM) Conversation yesterday in Barnes and Nobel with a friend: Friend: You know who's hot? Me: I can think of a few names. . . Friend: That Harry Potter guy. Me: Alan Rickman? Kenneth Branagh? Friend: No, the one that plays Harry Potter. Me: Um, he's like 12. Friend: No way, he's totally 18. Me: You're a pediphile. He's like 10 years young than us. Gross. Friend: He's 18 and he's hot. This went on for a while, I'm sure the other shoppers thought we were insane/sexual predators. So Mr Showtime has a shot with your friend???
  20. This makes about as much sense as airline workers striking or the NHL canceling a season, union labor is crumbing in the US as their power position dwindles. Now the unions are splitting over powerplays and money. Its sad because the US worker needs strength in numbers more than ever, but like an consumate politician, they don't care about the people they represent. http://www.forbes.com/business/energy/feed.../ap2155563.html
  21. I honestly think that Clinton feels bad for this. I was in an Africian History class taught by a native Nigerian who was familiar with both ethnic groups invovled with this strife and the history that had brought the Hutu's and Tutsi's to the point they were at. It was incredible to hear the professor talking about these brutal mass murders and rapes, and to see barely a peep of it on the "news". I can't imagine the knowledge that the US military and government had to have had of this and still be able to ignore the Rwandans while sleeping well at night. I do wonder if Bill will be giving the same sort of apology down the road for 9-11?
  22. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 09:50 PM) LOL Perhaps you've been living in the military too long to remember real life. So we aren't changing our way of life? Of course we are. Give up freedoms instead of getting blown up. We have changed and are willing to give up any rights and liberties. Read this thread. Random searches where we use to not have any. And this is in response to what? The terrorists in London. They f***ing won. They got us to change our life and live in fear. I stand by my statement. The terrorists have won. They have struck terror into our lives and changed America. I'm not saying that it isn't the correct path to take. We probably had too many freedoms. So what should we do?
  23. QUOTE(Brian @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 03:22 PM) Blackhawks will draft #7. Not bad for the odds they had. They can get a quality player at #7.
  24. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 03:21 PM) frick - anaheim or pittsburgh? Hopefully Pittsburgh, its a great hockey town and they need a BIG shot in the arm.
  25. QUOTE(TheDybber @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 03:17 PM) I remember when they did that to the Edens in the 80's...what a nightmare. Looks like Lake Shore Drive is gonna get a LOT more traffic for a while. How long did they say it was going to take? 2 or 3 years, I can't remember which one.
