  1. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 02:57 PM) I want 2 lower deck tickets for tonights game. I want these tickets by 4:30.... ^ Funny 3 days ago...
  2. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 02:42 PM) Definitely. I missed out on that last year. That was a good time. Everybody was out in 6 or 7 weeks.
  3. QUOTE(sircaffey @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 02:43 PM) Garland also was somewhat raw at the time of the Karchner trade, I believe (traded for in '98, didn't make his debut till 2000, right?). Jon Rauch won MLPOY...I don't care about that award. Jon Garland was 21 when he made his major league debut after 3 years in the minors, after being drafted out of high school. Brandon McCarthy was also 21 when he made his major league debut...
  4. QUOTE(DePloderer @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 02:37 PM) Absolutely. I keep forgetting you lot don't speak English, I should have said "vacation". I might enjoy mentioning 2012 while I'm there. Now that is funny Dispite the location, enjoy your trip

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 02:37 PM) yes. The roster expands in september anyways. The teams that need bullpen help want the real sexy names out there like Wagner, Mesa, and Baez. He will accept the assignment to Charlotte because he knows no other team will seriously go after him. You are delusional if you think Shingo Takatsu will ever throw another pitch for the Chicago White Sox. He's gone, let him go.
  6. France? I thought Holiday in England was a good thing :puke
  7. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 02:22 PM) What if he pulls the ball his first three at-bats? The Casey Daigle fan club will reemerge.
  8. QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 02:13 PM) Gives us a guy who can play 1b and 3rd base giving both Joe and Pauly a legit back-up.. Unless you loike Timo at 1st? That's yesterdays news. Everyone who wished so hard for Ross Gload to be up here got their wish. Frank is back on the DL, we have our backup 1B now. On to the next "crisis"
  9. QUOTE(Yossarian @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 01:57 PM) We played our sloppiest and worst baseball all year last night with 3 errors and still nearly won the game. I would hardly consider that playing like boys amongst men. Boston isn't that impressive, we just beat ourselves. Having a $125 million payroll sure helps that...
  10. QUOTE(Yossarian @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 01:49 PM) He's a lousy in game manager, particularly his handling of pitchers. His strong suit is motivation, and changing the mind set. On that he is superior. If he could only improve his in game strategy, now we're talking about a really good manager. I hope he'll grow into the job a little, but I'm not sure he really will. One thing that I am starting to pick up with Ozzie as a manager is that his focus is totally different than any manager I have ever seen. He is a macro-manager vs everyone else in the league who is basically a micro-manager. When Ozzie manages he always has something else in mind whenever he makes a move. When he brings in a relief pitcher, it seems like not only is he trying to match up for an AB, he also is trying to learn something about a pitcher. Like earlier in the season when he started using Neal Cotts in the 7th/8th innings when he never had before. Ozzie was testing Neal to see if he could depend on him. You would have never seen 95% of managers do something like this until they had to. Its the same with the 3rd game line ups. We all look at the one game and scream about how can you put those guys in the game? By doing this Ozzie is seeing who responds to certian games and situations, so that he knows who he can use and when. He also knows that come September and October, his guys are going to have their legs underneath them when they really need them. Ozzie isn't about the moment as a manager, he is about the post-season and the stretch run. All of his managing points like the regular season is one big spring training for the post season. The macro-management looks completely different to us, because we are so used to seeing managers caught in the moment. It is different to look a particular play in the context of a whole 162 games, but that is what is going on here.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 01:33 PM) No, it's not that the Good stories are anecdotes, it's that the incredibly small stories are anecdotes. This is a story about 1 hospital in 1 place in Iraq that will at most convince a couple hundred people not to hate us. Yeah, it's a useful story, but it's not a big story. This 1 place is not going to change the future of Iraq. A thousand of those places...maybe they could. But not 1 of them. Not even a dozen. What would be a great story that I would think of as a non-anecdote? The completion of the Iraqi constitution on time. The election certainly was. A dramatic increase in the generation of electricity. Saddam finally going to trial. Or getting a significant amount of Iraqi forces trained and actually seeing them performing well. Those are things that can genuinely help improve the future of the country for everyone. And the reason that one of these stories has no effect on anyone but the people immediately involved? Because no one talks about these stories.
  12. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 01:29 PM) I'm sure we could get you kicked out for less than that. Its a wonder I haven't been banned yet
  13. QUOTE(The Critic @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 01:26 PM) Yeah, 28 buck patio ticket = you already have a game ticket. 41 dollar deal = patio ticket + game ticket for those who need a game ticket. That's what I was looking for. $28 gets you kicked out when the game starts.
  14. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 01:20 PM) Didn't read Hal's post I see... :rolly I saw it, I didn't think it was clear at all. What is a patio ticket? They empty the patio at a certian point, so where do you sit then?
  15. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 09:57 PM) Here's what Hal posted on the WSI boards... Question, because I have never been to a patio party... If you get the $28 package, where do you end up sitting? Do you have to pay extra to get a ticket?
  16. QUOTE(Chuck's cuz @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 01:01 PM) Hmmm...he may...My dad (his uncle) actually calls him the Chuckmeister...so, don't see that he would have a problem. I should be talking to him early next week. Could ask him... Tell him to drop by here sometime, himself. We are a fairly harmless bunch, and a lot of his teammates through out the system post and/or read here.
  17. QUOTE(Chuck's cuz @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 11:58 AM) Yeah, it was from when he was with the Bristol White Sox. I may have spoke wrong, sorry. I was in a hurry to go somewhere... Well if you are interested in keeping up with our cuz, you are in the right place . If you find a pic and need some help you can PM me and I will help you out. Welcome to Soxtalk

  20. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 12:35 PM) No, I don't think it's a question of "how much...you believe". It's a question of how far you believe that right should go. I feel very strongly that privacy is important, but I believe that when I'm using a resource that belongs to a private company (airplane) or the public (subway, crowded space) I make an agreement (sometimes implicit) with the owner. My privacy still exists, I just make a choice to reveal something, which is always my right. But when I'm in my home, I would be no less ticked to find a camera -- I don't 'believe less' in my right to privacy. When you interpret it that way, I agree with you actually. Many people don't see that their privacy has any ends, and therefore should never be subject to searches without search warrents.
  21. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 12:14 PM) Atlanta had the same problem, and they injected hundreds of millions into the infastructure to improve roads, etc. That would be ok for Chicago, wouldn't it? Of course the Dan Ryan will still fall to pieces 6 months after it's over, so whatever, huh? The Dan Ryan project goes into full swing next year. They are totally tearing it down and rebuilding it from the ground up. This year they have been redoing the ramps and bridges. It is going to be U-G-L-Y.
  22. You turd burglers better get your winning streak back on track
  23. Also I want to take on the myth that people overrate Iguchi for his ability to move runners over. To do that all you have to do is go back and look at 2001-2004 and look at the line up that we had, and the inconsistancies that came with playing for the 3 run HR. Sure we scored 10 runs a lot more often, but we also scored 0-1 runs a lot more often as well. Guys like Tadahito Iguchi and Scott Podsednik make the offense a ton more consistant, and put the pressure on the pitchers to be perfect to our most dangerous hitters, whereas our opponents never had the problems for the last 4 seasons. With a runner at 3B there is an eminent danger of someone scoring. The Sox don't need 3 hits to get a run this year, many times they only need one. How many more innings are we scoring in because fo this? This year we get a runner on 1B you have to look for the bunt and/or you have to look for the steal. You get the infield in motion, you create pressure, you create confusion. Once again, this is all stuff that doesn't show up on the stat page, but it is all a reality on the field. Go ahead throw the .267 batting average at me. Go out and play the game and appreciate the difference of all of the variables I am talking about vs playing against the 2001-2004 White Sox on a day to day basis, and what ends up happening is exactly what the Sox are doing. They make their own breaks, and literally let other teams beat themselves. Look at our record guys, the best record in 105 years speaks for itself. If this would have lasted a month, you might have been able to call it a fluke. This is almost 4 months of baseball now. There is a reason we are 62-32, and guys like Iguchi are it.
  24. QUOTE(rangercal @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 12:47 AM) Let's be Honest here. Gooch has been sucking it up since april. You lost me right here. I would be willing to bet that without Tadahito Iguchi starting at second base this year, and Willie Harris in, we would have lost AT LEAST 10 more games than we have already. I can't begin to count how many times Iguchi has given himself up to get Scott Pods into an easy to score situation. He has played a solid second base, and has come through with many clutch hits this season, dispite being regularly 0-2 while trying to let Pods steal a base. Think about just the few times that Willie has played lately, how many times he has failed to get a bunt down, and to move Pods over... and you honestly think we would be BETTER with Willie in the line up? We would be at best in a deadheat with Minnesota if Tads wasn't starting at 2B, if not worse. You can hold a stat page at me all you want, but somethings are intangible and either don't show up on a stat page, or even show up as a negative on the stat sheet. Unfortunately moving a runner over without a bunt shows up as an out and as a detriment to the batter, even when it helps a team win games. And that is exactly what Tadahito does, he puts the 3-4-5-6 hitters in a position to win games for us. Edited for a dumb typo
  25. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 11:28 AM) So ... At what point do we stop accepting it and say that's enough? This is the question you have to ask yourself. Are you willing to die because you don't want your bag searched in the morning, before getting on your train? Essentially it comes down to how much do you believe in your right to privacy? Do you believe in it enough to let someone else kill you, while taking advantage of the holes in our exsisting system?
