  2. QUOTE(YASNY @ May 5, 2005 -> 04:11 AM) The only option I see the Yankees having is to suck for the next 5 years. Till these long term old player contracts expire. They have some players of value that they can trade, but the Yanks will have to eat a lot of money to do so. That might get them back quicker, if they acquire some good propects in these deals. If they suck for a few years, they'll also have better draft choices if King George can lay off the bad free agent signings for a while. Unless King George plans on going to $250 million-$300 million a year, they are stuck with what they have for a while. They have some long and bad deals on the books.
  3. Get well soon Jose
  4. QUOTE(JimH @ May 5, 2005 -> 08:28 AM) I'd agree, he got better as the game went on and I would say he hit his stride in the 3rd inning. Don Pall got better too, I kind of felt he didn't want to step on DJ's toes at the beginning but when they started talking pitching strategy, it was pretty interesting. The DJ home run call is getting to be a little bit of cult classic ... he needs to refine it and nail it. The broadcast flowed pretty well, other than sometimes DJ has a tendancy to repeat the same responses ... he must've replied "you better believe it" to some of Don's comments about 5-6 times. Not a big deal because all broadcasters have "pet" phrases. Overall I thought it was a pretty decent first effort, and I'll be listening for the next several games to see how things develop. DJ kept saying "that's a good observation" over and over too. I know he was just trying to coax Pall along, and give him some confidence, but it really got old quickly. I am looking forward to a solid broadcast tonight. I like what Pall brings to the booth, all except for his voice. There is something about it that just doesn't scream "baseball". But I can live with that. Good job so far fellas
  5. QUOTE(YASNY @ May 5, 2005 -> 03:46 AM) The Go-Go Sox, those Hitless Wonders, are Winning Ugly! The Southside Hitmen were it!
  6. QUOTE(YASNY @ May 5, 2005 -> 08:17 AM) Exactly. The team was proven based on 1993. The Sox were very good in '94. The expectations were as high as they had been since, sigh, 1984. I was thinking the samething, but it felt like a punch in the stomach to say it Also the 1994 team didn't have the strike and white flag team to blame for attendance (before the strike obviously)
  7. QUOTE(YASNY @ May 5, 2005 -> 08:15 AM) attendance = tree Konerko = tree Cotts = tree THE SOX ARE THE BEST TEAM IN BASEBALL!!!!!! = forest I luv the forest
  8. QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ May 4, 2005 -> 10:30 PM) heres a hint konerko: 1. stand a little farther away from the plate 2. your not on a golf course, and if you were i cant believe you would hit the ball 3. lighten up after an out, lets get some confidence flowing 4. stop trying to get hits and kill the thing 5. small ball isnt for you 6. lower your hands earlier in your swing 7. eye contact 8. repeate if you fail 9. contact barry bonds Sorry but this is just funny
  9. My favorite lines... how appropriate they are.
  10. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ May 4, 2005 -> 11:23 PM) Yeah, because back in 94 we were off to a better start than we have now. I forgot about that. Not! When you have the best team in baseball, breaking records and off to its best start in its history(not since 94 as many of you guys like to use that number) then it is pretty damn pathetic. Ask any older Sox fan about 1994 and they will tell you that it was going to be the year they made it to the World Series. They were in first place, and were right there for the best record in baseball all year long. They also were coming off of a division championship in 1993, which we are not in 2004. There are plenty of reasons that 1994 attendance was so big.
  11. QUOTE(YASNY @ May 5, 2005 -> 01:09 AM) We've been agonizing for 4 years waiting for Garland to become the pitcher he is today, and now we want to boot him and bring up another young pitcher to replace him, and wait till he learns how to be a bifg league pitcher? That sounds like a helluva plan. I have been thinking the exact samething. People have been saying Garland will be good since we got him, and now that is might be realizing his potential, we are ready to let him walk away for the next great thing? No thanks. Resign Garland if at all possible, and if Brandon is good enough, he will beat someone else out... most likely El Duque.
  12. QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ May 4, 2005 -> 10:09 PM) I want to personally take my hat off to Joe Morgan, prognosticator of prognosticator, who said kicking off the season that he felt that Detroit and Cleveland had the talent to make it a tough three-way race with Minnesota all season. Sure enough, Cleveland proved tonight that they definitely belong in the picture. They hung right with the twins and then beat them in the ninth. W L GB Minnesota 15 11 - Detroit 12 14 3 Cleveland 11 15 4 Mr. Morgan didn't go as far to mention what place the three teams would be fighting it out for, but because he was so prescient I'm going to go ahead and just assume he meant second place. Of course he didn't bother mentioning the White Sox in that particular broadcast, despite the fact that very team was facing Minnesota that very night....although I'm sure that was just a mental slip. Lord knows he had too much to think about that night, such as why Craig Biggio or any other second baseman doesn't belong in the hall of fame, and what the Giants and Padres were up to while he was being bothered to be in the midwest for a couple of hours. Anyway, kudos to Joe for the sharp analysis. Look for this race to heat up as the season moves along! Don't mind the haters.. That was awesome
  13. QUOTE(Texsox @ May 4, 2005 -> 09:54 PM) I guess I'll switch and be a Cub fan Oh you there is still plenty for the faithful negatives to cry about... Attendance, Konerko, Cotts... You just have to dig deeper As for me? THE SOX ARE THE BEST TEAM IN BASEBALL!!!!!! HELL YA!!
  14. This could be a great shot in the arm for the struggling middle of the order.
  15. QUOTE(Capn12 @ May 4, 2005 -> 11:50 PM) How was The Pope Donn Pall tonight? Watching mlb.tv, I had the friggin KC broadcast yet again. Thoughts? He got much better as the game went on. Actually I thought DJ had a great game behind the mic. I don't know why Hawk being around makes him suck so badly, but it is definately strange. DP opened up more and more as the game went on, and really sounded good once the teams got into the pen, and he started talking about situational pitching, and what pitches to throw at a specific count etc. It was nice to have a pitcher in the booth to hear what they were thinking of throwing, instead of Hawk and DJ both talking about how they would look for fastballs in this situation.
  16. QUOTE(YASNY @ May 5, 2005 -> 04:26 AM) How did it take this tidbit so long to make it to SLaP? It didn't... It was posted it was stolen a while back. They just now got arrested.
  17. http://www.iht.com/articles/2005/05/04/news/canada.php But Martin still plans on seeing U2 when they come to Ottawa
  18. If Jeff can keep this up, he could pass Adkins as the first RH relief arm to come up if an injury happens.
  19. Freddy pitches out of things again. Sox lead 4-1
  20. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ May 4, 2005 -> 08:16 PM) Anyone notice that Laz Diaz is umping first base? That brings back old memories. Weren't the White Sox playing the Royals too? Yes it was. I was at that game, sitting a section over from where all of the ignorant Cub fans kept jumping on the field later in the game. It was the last half price game I ever went to.
  21. QUOTE(Brian @ May 4, 2005 -> 07:19 PM) Yeah, the fan's putdown was awful as well. Definately... if you are going heckle, at least make it funny. Rocker totally Pnwed this dude.
  22. Elvis has left the building... and sent a message.
  23. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 4, 2005 -> 08:01 PM) Baj can pitch, plain and simple. I love it. You go Baj, get your ass back up here
