This was basically known. It comes to down to whether the Sox want to carry him on the 40 man roster over the winter when who knows when he will pitch again. They have done this before to free up roster slots, and it isn't uncommon around baseball. Tyler Johnson is the last one who comes to mind. Typically the try to resign them to a minor league deal because they don't really want them to leave, but they also want the roster slot to protect someone from Rule 5 or something like that. It comes down to is eventual Ryan Burr post surgery worth exposing another player to the draft, or DFAing someone else in the meantime. They are still responsible for his health care and all of that related to his injury until he signs with some one again.

I am sure this was all orchestrated with the though of getting Kane and Toews to want to leave.

Basically it stops them from making another bad contract for a draft pick trade to fill up that space.

Because where we used to have government protection here, it was derregulated, and companies seek profits first, so they are sending oil overseas where they can sell it for more. This has nothing to do with anything but increasing profit margins at corporations. The "decision" is made by each private company, because that is what the government allowed them to do. Obama had threatened to veto the bill, but it was override proof, so he didn't. For example in the house, 26 Dems joined all of the GOP in voting for this bill. I guess in this day and age that passes for 'bipartisan'.

This is what I can't get past. Look, at any other time in Sox history, the Sox being on back to back playoff appearances would mean HUGE increases at the gate. If you knock out the 1st half of the 21 season with COVID attendance restrictions, we have to flat to down on attendance this year. Even more than the W/L are they seeing the complete apathy of the fan base at the gate? They should be drawing 30k a night, instead we are at the levels of a decade ago. We aren't even on pace for 2 million fans this season.

And the sacrifice bunt with McGuire which reduced our mathematic odds of both scoring and winning.
