  1. QUOTE(MurcieOne @ Jan 10, 2005 -> 08:50 AM) WoW... thats a pretty annoying little article. "they signed A.J. Pierzynski... but hes no Pudge Rodriquez" ouch... what place did they finish in with pudge last year? Sounds like a bitter message board poster, instead of a major urban sportswriter to me...
  2. I'd love to see Ray back on the southside
  3. I am really excited about the makeover the Sox have gotten in this off season. This is the best balanced team I remember since maybe 1983. They have speed, they have power, they have defense, and they have a 10 deep, at least, pitching staff. They should be the favorites, but after watching year of year of the Sox underachieving, the Twins are the favorites until someone else clinches the AL Central.
  4. Edinger is probably toast. I just don't like the fact that his routine is so much longer and more complex than other kickers. To me it just means that there are more chances of something going wrong during a kick.
  5. QUOTE(Kogs35 @ Jan 9, 2005 -> 08:29 PM) hope iowa state kicks kansas ass. kansas did not deserve to win today!!!!! Niether team deserved to win that game. It wasn't even that the defense was that good, the offensive flow was horrible. Maybe things will be different when Simien is back (if he can actually stay healthy for once) but niether one of those teams looked like a title contender to me. Too many bad shots, not enough disipline, no go to scorers.
  6. QUOTE(WSFAN35 @ Jan 9, 2005 -> 12:10 PM) You expect to get a player like Castillo for nothing? You have to give up something good to get something good and if the Fish want Marte, you give em Marte. What is with everyone's hard-on for this guy? Last year was sort of an off year for Pierz with 9 passed balls and .227 caught stealing. But in his entire career he's thrown out .292 and had less than 5 passed balls a year before last year. As for not being able to call a game, he had a better Catching ERA than Torrealba. One interesting thing that AJ mentioned was a difference of philosophy in SF regarding preventing basestealing. AJ said that they don't believe in the slidestep, or in throwing over to 1B very often with runners on. They really emphasized going after the hitter instead of worrying about the runner, according to AJ.
  7. QUOTE(Steff @ Jan 8, 2005 -> 05:45 PM) She had it already. A girl. Well in that case a belated Congrats to DJ and the Mrs
  8. QUOTE(MurcieOne @ Jan 8, 2005 -> 03:18 PM) Tyson Chandler may not be a capable scorer in this league, but he has become a defensive FORCE coming off the bench. His REBS and BLOCKS have been a HUGE factor to our winning ways... Keep in mind, he does all this in limited minutes. I love watching Tyson play. He got Dennis Rodmans heart, and an NBA body. Hopefully his health holds up.
  9. QUOTE(USAF_11F4H @ Jan 8, 2005 -> 05:09 PM) The Sox traded Ray-Ray to the A's in '02 for ... Jon Adkins. Ouch. No, Ouch is the contract that Ray got after being traded. We got something for him, when he was going to be gone anyway.
  10. QUOTE(winodj @ Jan 8, 2005 -> 02:41 PM) Of course this is assuming that the team actually contacted him. I don't like the guy either, but I don't make assumptions that owners always act in good faith. good point, especially with the crap that happens in Boston.
  11. QUOTE(The Critic @ Jan 8, 2005 -> 02:09 PM) I hope so too. When the fire ignites in him to make him want to prove it every game, he's gonna be a real force. He's his own worst enemy. I'd love to see Tyson's "want-it" in Eddy's body. If Eddy had Tysons heart, the Bulls would have given him a max extension two years ago.
  12. :puke Thanks FCC
  13. I thought the Big Bang creating the universe would have been the biggest explosion ever?
  14. QUOTE(Confederate_48 @ Jan 8, 2005 -> 12:53 PM) When I think Braylon Edwards it reminds me of David Terrell That's the samething I think of. Lets just get Mike Williams
  15. NC has over 100 points with 5 mintues left to play in the game. They now are beating MD by 42 points with just under 3 mintues to play.
  16. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jan 8, 2005 -> 12:43 PM) Doubt Burke is there, unless a deal is worked out by then to keep him in the organization at AAA. Minor league players don't usually appear at Soxfest anyhow, although some have shown up before as part of the crowd to enjoy the festivities. Otherwise, he gone. I guess the Southtown reported he has been assigned to Charlotte and invited to ST. So he should be at SF.
  17. Tough to say. Jeff Baj has a special place as a favorite of mine because of his contributions here, and his really cool personality. But I would have to say MB or Arow would be my favs now. All though Shingo is up there too. I just love the energy when he makes an appearence.
  18. QUOTE(SoIL @ Jan 8, 2005 -> 12:36 PM) According to the Daily Southtown, Burke has been sent to AAA. It doesn't say whether he cleared waivers or not, but I assume if he's at Charlotte, he did. Good insurance in case of injury. http://www.dailysouthtown.com/southtown/ds.../pro/082sd2.htm If he's spent sent to AAA he cleared waivers. They can't assign him anywhere until he clears.
  19. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jan 8, 2005 -> 11:21 AM) This is just so great for the Sox. Somewhere Ben Davis is crying... Ben Davis still has a spot on a 40 man roster, unlike Jaime Burke... He is the real loser here.
  20. To me the best Valdez will ever be is a Tony G type who can spot start against selected pitchers. He will never be an everyday starter on a decent team.
  21. QUOTE(Confederate_48 @ Jan 8, 2005 -> 12:23 PM) If we did trade down to get the two first rounders would that involve our 2nd rounder ?? And no I dont think Vince Young is in the draft. Young was a true Soph. He can't go pro til next draft.
  22. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 05:15 PM) He's the Comeback Player Of The Year. No doubt about it in my mind.
  23. Eddy continued his gutsy play last night. He just wanted it. Hopefully Eddy has turned the corner and we see this every night from him.
  24. I have said for years I would love to see Stone and Hawk work together. I wish they would have mixed the booths for the Cubs/Sox series's. The one thing that worries me is I don't know if Stone has enough of a sense of humor for Hawk to ride him the way he did DJ and Wimpy.
  25. QUOTE(The Critic @ Jan 8, 2005 -> 12:27 PM) Is it crazy to consider AJ for the 2 slot? He hits for a high average, puts the ball in play, being a lefty probably means he puts the ball to the right side fairly often. I don't think he strikes out too much, but I'm not really sure about that. The only downside would appear to be the double play, due to the lack of foot speed. What does everyone think? Should the Sox try AJ hitting 2nd in Spring Training to see how he does? Interesting thought. AJ is very selfless at the plate, and does what he needs to for the team. He doesn't strike out much and hits clutch and for a high average. His footspeed is the one thing that scares me though.
