QUOTE(Mathew @ Feb 3, 2005 -> 10:20 PM) I like Rush even though they suck, must be a Canadian thing, plus I gotta like out Hot Chick champion from Canada Ms. Cuthbert. I wouldn't say Rush sucks - not everybody's cup of tea, perhaps. Now Chilliwack on the other hand... they sucked. The verdict is still out on Kim Mitchell, with a probable forecast of maybe 60% suck.

Medical bills spark 46% of U.S. personal bankruptc

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Feb 3, 2005 -> 03:26 PM) One solution of course is to regulate the medical industry to accept installment payments. In otherwords when you are slapped with a 12K medical bill that hospital has to accept the fact that you are going to pay it in installments. If you think about this nationwide just this simple regulatory move could have a major impact on healthcare costs. A sound idea. I guess it is up to the individual providers because that is exactly how my family's provider network already operates. We put the birth of both of our children on the installment plan. A couple more payments and we own 'em both outright. -
Back in the caveman days when I was there, Kam's had a supersecret Batcave basement that dorms used to rent out for underage drunkfests. I went to exactly one of those as a freshman and realized that paying $5 to drink stale beer and stand in line to get into the bathroom to wade though and/or contribute to a small sea of vomit was not my thing.

They somehow left off the most important question in a narcissist quiz: Do you engage in pillow talk while masterbating?

QUOTE(mreye @ Feb 3, 2005 -> 12:21 PM) Also, I did that based on who the story came from (Canadian Bush hater) As a guy who spent a good deal of time fishing up in Ontario as a teenager I can tell you there is nothing wrong with Canadian bush. -
Not if you're the trainer. There was a thread on that here from around the time of the signing, but inertia prevents me from hunting for it.

QUOTE(3E8 @ Feb 3, 2005 -> 11:25 AM) It's kind of like hating the tax collector for doing their job. I guess we hate the laws, not the enforcers. I was thinking about making a smartass comment about how it's not the cops' fault that sex with chickens is illegal and they're just doing theuir job, but maybe I had better not... I mean, the less attention we draw to it the better our chances of quietly getting that completely archaic and repressive law off the books, right? Er, I mean... Chickens? What chickens??

QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 3, 2005 -> 11:40 AM) Holy crap Jim.. that was fast! Well, I just happened to be on the Munsters action figure site at the time, you see. What are the chances?

QUOTE(winodj @ Feb 3, 2005 -> 11:29 AM) I wanna make some joke involving the town of Munster, Indiana at this point and tie it into this thread. I'm just too slow to make it. A little help? A little slow AND a little late, Pally. There already are Munster dolls out there...

This woman hit it on the head. White Corporate American Dollmakers Inc. missed the boat on this one. The way American Girl is going with this they are obviously not marketing to inner city Mexican girls who I assume are underrepresented in the doll world (but damn those American Girl dolls are friggin' $$$). Seems more like they are marketing to the Mexican girls from urban flight families or to Suburban white girls who want a pet Mexican doll to give the playroom some color.

QUOTE(mreye @ Feb 3, 2005 -> 08:58 AM) Just another reason we need medical liability reform. More to the point, we need to socialize the catastrophic aspects of medical care coverage. We missed the boat when we had a chance to socialize health care, and I don't want to ressurrect that debate. But, there are finally some people that are now saying there should at least be a universal safety net that catches the people who have done everything by the book - hard working, have health insurance, etc. - and still risk being wiped out when an unforeseen health issue appears. According to the article and an NPR bit yesterday, medical expenses of Scary to think that, given the mysteries of the organism, it can happen to anybody at any time. -

QUOTE(mmmmmbeeer @ Feb 3, 2005 -> 02:35 AM) ummmm, I hate religious fanatics as much as the next guy but they own the place. I hate when the whole free speech argument gets thrown around like a dirty whore, they own the motherf***er, they can tell whoever the f*** they want that they're not welcome in their arena. This is an entirely true statement. Your venue, your call on who plays. No First Amendment issue here. It is a censorship issue, but the owners of the Forum are within their legal rights to limit who does and does not take the stage. That said, fans of the band and like-minded bands should file this away in long-term memory and should take a lesson from the conservative Christian groups that often band together to express their opinions via their purchasing power. Don't see shows at the Forum if you are a fan - drive the 50 miles and catch a headliner somewhere else the next night. If you are a band that objects to the decision, don't book future gigs there, and voice your opinions on the issue so fans understand your decision.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Feb 2, 2005 -> 05:31 PM) I'm just trying to combine to mp3's together, and I have on idea what I'm doing. :banghead The problem you are going to run into there is that you don't have the independent tracks from the multitrack recording, just the commercial stereo mixdown. Pulling lyrics off of that is a difficult proposition at best unless the song was produced with the lyrics only on one channel. You can also potentially use digital filters to isolate the frequency range most likely to contain vocals - kind of the revers of the Karaoke filters on some audio players.

That's one well thought out post, Ribbie! Also sounds like you have a great kid there too. :cheers My 7- and 5-year old also watch both Arthur and the Postcards spin-off, and I think they're both really positive, tolerance-teaching shows. I can understand why the episode in question has come under fire, given the silent agenda of some to only teach tolerance of certain cultures, races, religions, or sexual orientations. But I wholly believe that the show and that particular episode are meeting the mandate for the government funding in question, namely introducing diversity issues to a 5-8 year old audience. I think an important subtext in all of this is the WGBH factor. They are the Boston PBS affiliate that commissions the Postcard shows. Boston is also the town that is pissing off a lot of the straight and narrow crowd by recognizing gay unions. So, the new Education Secretary got to make a splash by attacking a perceived gay-friendly message sponsored by a gay-friendly PBS station out of gay-friendly Boston before she even officially took office. It was a definite shot across the bow to get the attention anybody else thinking of using federal education funding to produce similar programming that might "send the wrong message."

QUOTE(Brian @ Feb 2, 2005 -> 11:57 AM) Anyone know of a good sound mixing program for my computer? Something I can lay down a music and record voice and mix em together? I tried a few free ones off download.com but couldn't figure how to get voice and music to play together. Thanks. Garage Band on the Mac side. Probably Bias Peak on the Dark Side.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Feb 1, 2005 -> 02:29 PM) Best place to play shows at though! Plus a fave to see bands at. But the whole experience was just great, and the food next door made it that much better! Well, it wasn't Biddy Mulligan's, but it was a fun place to catch good music. I can'r recall eating at the hotdog place next door, but then again there's a lot I can't recall of those nights.

QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Feb 1, 2005 -> 12:29 PM) I avoid fast food as much as possible (going once a month is alot for me). But when I do go, I go to Rosie's on 103rd and Cicero for a Gyros dinner. Mmmmmmm good! That place always made a mean gyro (pronounced "jye-row," natch). I remember ordering a sandwich there one time with extra tzatsiki (the yogurt and cucumber gyro sauce), and the guy calls out an order for "One jye-row, extra jizz.":D Back when there was a Zayer's (then became a K-Mart) across the street from there, there was an obligatory gyro stop after drunken the equally obligatory midnight blue-light Christmas shopping every December 23rd. As far as favorite fast food that I can't get here, I'd say a monstrous El Faro burrito or some Harold's chicken... or better yet gizzards - with extra hot sauce and sopping bread. For fast food I can get here, I like the big stuffed grilled steak burrito from Taco Bell. Not like an El Faro but it hits the spot.
