Vazquez's Pitching Technique
QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 01:08 PM) It's not really a control issue IMO. He tries to make people miss but only uses 1/2 of the plate. He misses the outside corner enough times, he will fall behind or end up walking a batter. Yeah, doesn't trust his fastball enough IMO. Tries to get fancy with the breaking stuff, falls behind, throws a "get me over" and gets crushed. I want to see more fastballs.

Ken Griffey Jr. + Cash to the White Sox
Let's get the Big Hurt back, bat Griffey 3, Thomas 4 and Thome 5 and pretend it's 1997. With Jr. in center presumably, the combined age of the outfield would be 97.

Anybody still have the July Calendar?
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 03:31 PM) You can also go to the How Does it Work Forum. I usually move the calendars there after about a week. Thanks, I knew they were on here somewhere, couldn't find em.

Anybody still have the July Calendar?
They gave me a new computer at work today, my Danks calendar is now gone, I'd really like it back, 1280x 1024. Thanks in advance.

Stone in, DJ out?
QUOTE (jackie hayes @ Jul 3, 2008 -> 10:27 AM) Disagree. I'm a huge Farmer fan. No way is he weaker than Singleton, nor Hawk, for that matter. I'll be supremely pissed if they ever get rid of him. I also enjoy Farmer. Actually got to meet him in the booth bout 7 years ago, actually got up during the game to shake my hand and we talked for about a minute or so, seemed like a great guy. My step dad's brother in law was one of the top chefs in the stadium club at the time, walked right into the booth with him, one of the coolest experiences I've ever had. Guy quit and got a job at the Conseco Field House or something, what a terrible day that was.

Stone in, DJ out?
QUOTE (WCSox @ Jul 3, 2008 -> 09:37 AM) Didn't they get into a big argument on the air back in 2000? They do OK together, but I'm scratching my head at these posts that say they have great chemistry. I don't see it. Hawk and Wimpy are a much better example of good chemistry. Agreed with the poster who said that Hawk is more of a color guy at this point. I don't necessarily want him to retire because he's been the one constant voice of the Sox throughout most of my life. And he did work very well with Stoney last year, so maybe it wouldn't be too bad. I'd love to see the Sox pry Milo Hamilton away from the Astros and team him up with Farmer on the radio. Not sure how many good years he has left and it's a pipe dream anyway, but it would be really nice for a while. I agree, I'm reading this DJ love wondering if I have been hearing the same thing for the past 9 years. What does this guy bring to the table? He thinks there is a T at the end of the word across. His homerun calls are embarrassing (GOOOING GOOOOOOOOING GGGGGGGGOOONE!), his voice is annoying, his constant rising intonation makes me feel like he's talking to a 4 year old. I'm not saying Hawk is perfect by any means, but when he was together with Stone, the broadcast sounded "professional". I think most everybody agrees that Stone is the best of all the Sox broadcasters, he needs to stay here if it's possible and I want to hear him as much as possible so get him on TV. Sometimes I ignore the delay and watch the TV with the radio on. I feel like I'm missing out on something when I'm not listening to Stone call the game, I've never come close to feeling that with DJ.

5/12 White Sox (18-18) vs LA Angels (22-17)
OCab throws a 3 hopper to Konerko to barely beat the runner... "as Cabrera does that intentionally" -DJ DJ, the 5 year olds watching have gone to bed, kill yourself.

UNDER AGE DRINKERS BEWARE!
I got caught drinking a beer with my buddy in the lot on Freddy Garcia's first home start for the white sox in 2004. We were both 20 at the time, bike guy carded us, got real mad, ripped up our tickets and made us drive out of the parking lot. Happened to be a half price night, so I just turned right back into the lot and we went and bought 2 more tix.

When did black become our primary uniform?
QUOTE (DonnyDevito @ Apr 16, 2008 -> 11:09 PM) black is the best color to wear in April because it attracts the suns' heat. Chicago will wear out the white pin stripes during the summer. the classy smooth greys will be sported steadily on the road as the year progresses. just wait till it heats up and then we won't see the blacks nearly as much. It sounds like the grey uniforms are really underrated on here. nobody is talking about them except for the OP. I agree, the grey roads are my favorite and it's really not even close for me. Only Sox jersey I own is a road Ventura. I've considered buying more, but it's like man, this road Ventura jersey is too good looking to not wear to every game I attend. The blacks are ok every so often, the vest uni was a joke, glad it's gone.

Danks tries to dam the (West)brook..
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 01:35 PM) Gameday is just being slow. Jenks has a couple strikes on Hafner already. 1-2 count, couple of 2 strike curves fouled off. Gameday was unbearable for me today, switched over to Sportsline GameCenter, going nice.

Good stuff out of Danks today though, hopefully he can maintain it for the entire season. Really like this kid.

Danks tries to dam the (West)brook..
QUOTE(BurlyMan56 @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 12:41 PM) JD all season long will make get rid of the stereotype that all black men can run The last few seasons I would compare Dye's running to two days after the first time anybody does squats. Each step painful and labored, not good.

Danks tries to dam the (West)brook..
QUOTE(ChWRoCk2 @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 12:36 PM) This is an odd question to ask here but..... For you business people: I got an interview today at 2, I have a 3 button suit, do I button the top 2? Middle only? I'm kinda stumped. Figured I'd get quickest response in this thread thanks. Top 2, never middle only. Good luck, I have one tomorrow...

May a curse be on your house, oh tribe of Cleveland!
QUOTE(JoeCoolMan24 @ Apr 2, 2008 -> 03:16 PM) Why isn't Ramirez batting 9th? I dont want Crede and Uribe hitting behind him, he will be stranded on base everytime. Put Alexei 9th, and let him get on base for Swisher or Cabrera to send him around the bases. Because he's Alfonso Soriano

Shooting at NIU
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 19, 2008 -> 03:14 PM) You are correct on all counts, I knew it was built in the 50's or 60's, but there have been 3 or 4 alterations of the building on that site since the school opened in the 1890's, as far as I'm aware. In other news, what has been clear to us hear in DeKalb almost since it happened is now being admitted by the investigators: the sicko did all he could to hide any signs of a motive. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/c...0,2846139.story I take back feeling bad for the girlfriend after reading this information. The news of him hiding the computer hard drive had been known almost since the beginning, but I wasn't aware he removed his cell phone chip (don't even know how you would go at doing that). One thing is clear though, the fact he did all of this to hide a motive, as well as drove up here to do the shooting, proves there clearly was a blatant motive. And that last setence, in bold, is another case of burying the lead. Who was the girl at the back of the auditorium? Why did the writer just randomly mention it in the last sentence? This girlfriend, between the CNN interview and now this, must be considered at least suspecious. Hmm, yeah have to agree that last quote is quite suspicious. And so is this girlfriend. I remember reading that she received a "goodbye" phonecall from him before he did all this. Seems to me like if somebody I was in any relationship with called to say "goodbye" I would frantically try to find out what they meant by that. Some phones have a SIM card in the back when you take off the battery cover, it's so you can switch it in different phones and still keep all your saved numbers etc. I'm pretty sure many phones don't have them. This whole thing makes no sense. We're all pretty sure he didn't know anybody in that class. It doesn't seem like he would have a grudge with anybody in there. Then again I guess this will probably never make any sense.

Shooting at NIU
- Fields thought about walking away
QUOTE(greg775 @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 10:03 PM) A major problem? I disagree. I just wish people were as tolerant of guys like Fields and the Royals' Mike Sweeney who care about their faith, as much as big leaguers being tolerant of those who love to get drunk, cheat on their wives, etc. God is good; so is going out and getting hammered once in a while. People need to be tolerant of all types, even in locker rooms. "God is Not Great How Religion Poisons Everything" by Christopher Hitchens....a book I think everyone should read- How many sox?
I would not be surprised one bit if Thome was on the list. Young Jim- Rowand offered 4 yrs/55 million from Sox
QUOTE(spiderman @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 09:45 AM) This sounds like the White Sox are just trying to make a splash now, and what better way than to bring back Rowand. Get Eric Bedard. I'm so fed up with KW getting fleeced in deals, hate to bring up stuff that happened way too long ago, but Rowand never should have left this team in the first place. The Philies had no friggen room for Thome, guy should have been had for 2 or 3 prospects. Every other GM in baseball can make these deal, which is why KSmug needs to go away. Renteria got traded for prospects, and we give up Garland for OCab, guy overpaid simple as that. Detroit has shown me how a decent baseball organization should be run. As Sox fans, to expect any less than what a team in DETROIT f'ing Michigan can do from our baseball club is ludicrous.- What the hell was Ozzie doing, volume 80 billion
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 8, 2007 -> 11:26 PM) Still wanna defend Ozzie there? Owens proves he can make the battery of Borowski/Martinez look like the girls from A League of Their Own, but Ozzie hasn't even let him attempt to get into second with nobody out. I can't take this trash anymore, this game should be over. You take the bat out of your hottest hitters' hands, when clearly Owens can steal 2nd. Let Owens run, then have Josh bunt him over, then you have a sac fly, or even a squeeze at the very least. What ever happened to Ozzie having a pair. If only Steve Stone was dumb enough to take a managing job.- Kris Honel Retired?
QUOTE(BaseballNick @ Aug 1, 2007 -> 08:08 PM) Yeah, I'm still kind of amazed that Providence didn't roll through the state tourney with those two on the mound. Just days after Kris signed with the Sox, I played in the the Catholic League All-Star game (which the Sox didn't allow Kris to play in of course) and there were some stories about how he may have let some of the press and accolades get to his head. I don't know Kris, so I'm not sure if any of that is true, but it's definitely understandable. Anyway, I'd love to see Pignatello and Cesar make it and be successful in the bigs some day. He was the typical cocky jock. Dumped his long term GF right after he signed, cant remember how much his bonus was, but quite sure it made him a millionaire. He also had a "K" tattooed on his right shoulder, and it wasn't because his name started with a K. Oh yeah he also used to carry around a baseball bat in the hallways. Pretty much sums up all I can remember from high school.- White Sox vs. Yankees, 8/01/07 (L)
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Aug 1, 2007 -> 09:18 PM) What happened with Haeger? He was head hunting with 68 mph knucklers and got tossed- Kris Honel Retired?
QUOTE(BaseballNick @ Aug 1, 2007 -> 04:32 PM) I'm the same age as Kris and we faced one another our senior year of high school. My team actually had Cesar Carrillo take the mound against him, so that game was a scout's dream. Anyway, Honel had easily the nastiest stuff I've ever seen, and having played in the Catholic League, I saw Gorzelany, Pignatello, Bogusevic, and Keefner who were all highly regarded. It's a shame he injuries got the best of him because I think he'd have been a pretty good major league pitcher. I went to Providence with Honel and Pignatiello. Those two as your 1 and 1a, figured we would have won a state title. Ahh anyway, bad breaks for Honel both physically and mentally was what I have heard. Back when Honel led the league in strikeouts I always thought it'd be cool that I went to the same high school as a Sox pitcher at the same time he did. Oh well. But hey, Carmen is doing pretty good for Iowa, maybe he'll get called up and the Sox can rock him next year.- Buehrle Fest
QUOTE(Wedge @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 10:14 AM) I'm so freaking happy I could almost cry Haha, I was just about to make a post about how I'm nearly welling up in my cube right now. Hopefully this is all true, and it's just another example of why we love Mark so much. In the grand scheme of things, he's still a very rich man. All I can say now is please be true. - Fields thought about walking away
