  1. This makes me ill. http://www.slate.com/blogs/the_slatest/201...h_carolina.html
  2. I think Love and Mercy was one of the best movies I've seen in a long time. Paul Dano makes for an amazing Brian Wilson sinking into a psychological break.
  3. Enquiring minds want to know: With a dozen plus candidates in the Presidential race for the Republican nomination, who would you support today?
  4. QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 12:57 PM) I wondered why the former president of France was in the 'buster. J'ai pensee la meme chose!
  5. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 02:22 AM) Hmmm, did you see Hillary is playing the "woman card?" She at her last stop in Iowa stressed it's important she is the first woman to be President. Sign of her being worried a tad bit? She's going for every woman's vote in America with this stance. I don't think its her worried, I think its her playing to her strengths.
  6. If you really wanna speed the process, get Global Entry.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 2, 2015 -> 09:26 PM) He's extremely likely to get my vote in the primary and I would not vote for him in the general as an independent. I'd be furious with him for trying that after living through 2000 and the disastrous aftermath. That's not really his MO. If he lost in the primary, he'd just go back to the Senate where he can have a day to day impact.
  8. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 30, 2015 -> 12:21 PM) Yeah, but I bet Bernie Sanders remembers how much good Ralph Nader's 2000 campaign did for the country and the world. Plus, he hasn't even had a (D) candidate to run against in Vermont in years. Don't get me wrong, I'd personally greatly prefer Sanders to Clinton or whoever the eventual dem nominee is, but I'd also greatly prefer not handing the Presidential election to whoever the Republican nominee is with a left-wing third party run that would only siphon votes from the Democrat. The national two party system is an artifact of the structure of our government and our elections. If you want a more-than-two-party system, you need something more like a parliamentary system, not a Presidential system with a legislature with tons of veto points like we have. edit: also, a good portion of the country would consider an open socialist to be a crackpot He runs as an independent, but there's some degree of coordination with the party. The truth is, his run is really about nudging Hillary to the left a bit. She's a centrist pure and simple. So was Obama, at the end of the day. If Sanders as a competitor and Warren on the outside can make Clinton a little less cozy with Wall Street, its probably as good as they can hope.
  9. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ May 2, 2015 -> 04:57 PM) Just pointing that it isn't always about race, just in case. And Enron isn't alone, yo uahve almost every lawmaker in just about every state for the last 30 years that have been mismanaging and appropriating retirement funds. It isn't always, but how is a protester getting 500K bail when the person charged with second degree murder (who is arguably the source of this particular flare up) gets bail for half the amount?
  10. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Apr 14, 2015 -> 11:21 AM) OK, but what about the increase in premiums from 2013 to 2014, when many people were forced to change plans because they couldn't "keep their insurance" (despite what they were promised)? If the increase due to the forced change in plans was astronomical for an individual or family, then the fact that the increase from 2014 to 2015 was low really doesn't matter. My job at the time had one of those noncompliant policies. We renewed a month early so we could keep our plan one more year. Premiums went up 25%, our deductible increased signficantly. I had the honor of paying approximately $300 a month out of my salary to pay the first $3,000 of my health costs without any aid whatsoever. I looked at the options that were available to me through the NJ exchange (one of the worst exchanges at the time because of a lack of competition) and I actually asked my boss to just take the share that they paid for the group plan and offer it as a supplement to use the exchanges, because it would have been more affordable than the plan that we had. Our bad insurance plan, just got worse. I have a new job now, with better insurance, but to be honest, I still shop for insurance when the exchange opens. I've seen better plans at reasonable costs in my state this past year. If my job's benefits weren't so good, I'd be on the exchange no question.
  11. Looks like it will be right around 56-44 Rahm.

  13. My first concert was Roxette in 1994. But it was in Berlin. And I didn't pay for the show. First show I paid for: Oasis.
  14. Who do you think is going to win, and what do you think the margin will be? I'm guessing the polls will be off, but not enough to throw the race to Chuy. 53-47 Rahm
  15. Ventura = Manager of the Year Chris Sale = Cy Young White Sox = AL Champions Miley Cyrus = EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony)
  16. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Apr 3, 2015 -> 02:22 PM) Getting France to do anything is a pretty effective job. Or Russia. Or China.
  17. Indiana "fixed" the law, and the outrage is slowly starting to fade I guess. Nobody seems to be pointing out that before the law, it was perfectly legal to deny someone service in Indiana for being gay by the way.
  18. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 3, 2015 -> 10:42 AM) Sorry, but it is a hell of a lot harder to close major deals like this than "set the table". His job of setting the table for a deal in Israel Palestine in 2013 with one party explicitly not interested in a deal was more impressive than getting China/Russia on board. Iran 2013 looked as close as ever, now we look like we bought ten years for change. That's a lot of time. I'm not saying that John Kerry doesn't deserve a hell of a lot of credit. I'm just saying that both secretaries of state have done a more than admirable job. But if I had to rank them from top to bottom, Kerry would be at the top of my list too.
  19. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 3, 2015 -> 08:42 AM) You didn't read the article. They never said they would deny service at their establishment, they said they'd refuse to cater their services to parties/weddings. I'll play devils advocate here, but that's the same as refusing to cater to a Westburo Baptist Church event, or a Scientology event. It's NOT, however, the same as refusing to serve Tom Cruise a slice of pizza if he were to show up at your establishment. Offering a service to everyone but gay people (even if its not all of your services) is still refusing service.
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 2, 2015 -> 04:27 PM) I'm just happy the s*** has hit the fan because lawmakers can't write laws in simple English. Nobody can understand the fricking law. However, I'm also getting pissed off at the vocal left in this issue forcing a pizzeria to close its doors. People need to fricking chill out. The governor supposedly is dumbing down the law, putting it in simple English which should be a lesson to all lawmakers. I have no sympathy for politicos who write mumbo jumbo laws, but I also feel for the pizzeria owners. They shouldn't be harassed and denied a living over THEIR beliefs. Live and let live the Beatles once said. https://www.yahoo.com/tech/indiana-pizzeria...5307450604.html I don't know that I feel all that sorry for the pizza makers here. They could have been opposed to marriage equality all they want. They still made the choice to publicly state ON TV that gay people would be denied service at their establishment because religion. They deserve all the negative reviews and outrage that they get. If that shuts them down, its just desserts frankly. You can say what you want, and you can believe what you want without government interference. That doesn't mean there are no consequences. They don't deserve threats. They don't deserve being attacked physically. That's different. There were some jerks who did that to these fine bigoted pizza makers, and they are terrible people too.
  21. Yes. Clinton did a lot to set the table for the results that Kerry is reaping right now. It isn't that John Kerry is suddenly changing everything in State. He's just there at the right time - and doing a pretty admirable effort at that.
  22. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 30, 2015 -> 03:51 PM) Well, agree to disagree I guess. Edit: i'm curious, why does the content matter? Let's say it's not objectionable (e.g. porn) and it's not threatening, but it's still anti-gay. A bunch of "gay marriage is a sin" type stuff. Even then? Objectionable is pretty debatable. Lots of people can have lots of objections. Obscene might be a better term. I think you have the right to not produce goods that you find objectionable. But I think there's a difference between not producing printing that's offensive to the printer, and not baking a cake that a couple wants for their wedding, because you don't like the genders of the couple. There's a difference there, no?
  23. 162-0. I mean, why not? Well, actually, I'm thinking 89-73.
