QUOTE(TheBigHurt35 @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 02:22 PM) Of course, you forgot the part about France, Russia, and Germany lobbying the UN to allow an increase in Iraq's oil output from 700k to 2 million barrels/day and the name of the (Republican-controlled) country that opposed it. Don't deflect. Answer the question. Who was it? It's already been answered for you. The Vice President. Dick Cheney. And the country that opposed it would be the United States, under the Clinton administration.

QUOTE(TheBigHurt35 @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 09:13 AM) And without the embargo, Saddam would've made even more money off of oil sales. Is it the fault of the US and UK that people will try to take advantage of the embargo? If anything, this argument further supports the notion that sanctions and the OFFP were not viable solutions to dealing with Saddam. Overthrowing him was. Question: Name the famous American lobbying for an end to Iraqi sanctions in 1999.- Mariners @ Sox Game Thread (4/17, 2:05 p.m. CT)

Why is an 8-3 start for us surprising? I'm not surprised at all. The Nats at 7-4? Surprising. After the Mets starting the way they did, going 6-0 this last week is incredibly surprising.- Starting Pitching in Great Shape, 1-6

Groovy Kind of Love is an old 60s song redone horribly by the balding (at that time) front man from Genesis. I think it was the Loving Spoonful that did it originally. You've heard that Enya song. You really wish you never did though.- What was No.1 on the day you were born?

Some people say that the Kuwait battle was sort of engineered to put Japan in its place economically. (Kuwait was the top exporter of oil to Japan and the country basically footed the bill for Gulf War I)- Yahoo story - Catholics softening stance vs gays
Actually the problem with the Catholic Church is how they relate to homosexuals in relation to their own cathecism. From what I've read, the official word is that a homosexual is an equal member in standing within the Church and should be welcomed and afforded the same standing as anyone else. The only difference is that gay people can't marry in the Church (since the point of marriage in the Catholic Church is essentially one of procreation and little else). But sex out of wedlock and homosexual sex are supposed to be treated equally. They are of the same sin supposedly.- Kofi tries to cover his ass
The Volcker report has said that less than one third of the total money that saddam hussein has supposedly illegally extorted through kickback, illegal oil sales, etc. came from OFFP. That would leave over TWO THIRDS of the 25+ billion dollars. The US and UK were responsible for enforcing the embargo. And you're neglecting to mention that American citizen traders are now being indicted to help perpetuate some of this fraud, both through OFFP and outside of it.- A little known fact...maybe
Some mods stay pretty strictly in some forums. For example, although I watch the baseball board, I have nothing intelligent to say there. Even less intelligent than what I have to say here that is. So I keep my mouth shut there mostly. Mostly. - Papal Conclave begins today
