  1. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 8, 2014 -> 01:04 AM) We simply don't know that.. I assume he would have a lot of say but it is ultimately up to Robin I would assume I switched channels, at what point did Coop make a trip to the mound? I would think Robin, as a former hitter and having "one of the best pitching coaches in the league" would listen to him if he said it's time to pull him.
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 8, 2014 -> 12:27 AM) I'm just curious, for anyone out there who really likes Robin Ventura. What, in your mind, is he one of the five or ten best managers in MLB at doing? What aspect of his job does he excel in? A couple of seasons ago, I would have said he has the right amount of patience and that "player's manager" feel...but without all the baggage and unpredictability of an Ozzie Guillen. We also knew he was never going to be a great post-game interview or wizard dealing with the press/media, such an important role for modern-day managers. With how the defense and fundamentals haven't clearly improved coming off last year's debacle...and yet with new players at many position, you start to wonder if the institutional culture (outside of Cooper) needs to be changed at the big league level. If it wasn't for the fortune of bidding on Jose Abreu in the perfect offseason for him to be available, this team would be 5-10 games under .500 and foundering, with no or little help available from the minors other than Rodon (assuming he signs). Outside of Cooper...Who probably had a big say in when he should have been taken out.
  3. Flip Saunders not exactly saying the right things to keep Love around. "He has no right to be frustrated"....Not something I'd publicly say if you're trying to keep your star player around.
  4. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 8, 2014 -> 12:35 AM) With his elbow issues he has had in the past I don't think he should be going over 110 pitches on a regular bases unless it isn't a stressful 110 pitches.. That isn't really the point with this game. I am not upset he threw so many pitches or even came out for the 8th inning. But after the first 1 or 2 guys reach base he should have been taken out, end of story.. And todays 110 wasn't stressful whatsoever. Meh, he still pitched well enough to where he should have been out of that inning after 1 run. That ground ball to Lexi had double play written all over it and I still think Kendrick swung at that 3rd strike.
  5. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 8, 2014 -> 12:22 AM) It was his 4th start off the DL. and one of those starts he only threw 40 pitches because of the rain.. I was counting his minor league start as well....He's been healthy enough to pitch for 5 starts now....At what point do you think they should take the kid gloves off and let him go back to being the guy that can give you 110+ pitches on a regular basis?
  6. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jun 8, 2014 -> 12:14 AM) We were talking about a complete game during the 7th. If Robin takes him out after the 7th and the bullpen that you've all despised for most of the year gives up 6, I bet we have people calling that a sackable offence too. He left him out too long in the 8th, but s***. It's Chris Sale. He got a groundball off Cowgill that should have been a double play, and I thought he had Kendrick struck out. Well said. Sale pitched 110+ pitches 17 times last year, 115+ 8 times, 120+ 3 times....This is his 5th start since coming off the DL, at some point you take the kid gloves off and you let Chris Sale be Chris Sale.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 7, 2014 -> 11:53 PM) And then leaves RHP to face Hamilton. Have a game Robin And is he brought in Scott Downs people would still probably b****. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 8, 2014 -> 12:06 AM) If he hadn't been on the DL for a whole month because of his elbow I would be fine with him throwing that many pitches... it really isn't even about the pitch count. It was about the situation on the field It's its 5th start since coming off the DL...When do you take the kid gloves off?
  8. "Aces" like Verlander, Sherzer, Lee, Hernandez, Price routinely go 110+ pitches. It's not like this is anything new. I wouldn't say he was exactly laboring either, he was still throwing the ball 94-96. It sucked, yes, and Robin isnt a great manager, but it's ridiculous the kinda hate I'm reading.
  9. Wouldn't be surprised if it was Chris that wanted to go back out there after seeing how pissed he was after giving up those 2 hits...Regardless...f*** STEVE STONE
  10. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 7, 2014 -> 11:04 PM) I basically meant it as a World Series game 7 right now (or in 5 days) I'd take the guy whose OBA is .060 the last 5 games. .126 overall....Opponents are hitting .253 off Buehrle (Not trying to knock him, just sayin.)
  11. Chris Sale has given up 5 hits in his last 31 innings...
  12. Oh how I long(not sure that's the saying) for the return of 2013 De Aza.
  13. Kevin Steen reportedly signed with WWE....The talent is there, but if they cut Chris Hero because of the lack of time he put in weight room then I'm not so sure why they're signing Steen. Dudes a human bowling ball. Dude can entertain though.
  14. I thought people were posting every pick in this thread....I've been duped
  15. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 7, 2014 -> 03:20 PM) The Bulls definitely have the most assets to offer. I don't think Love is the Bulls first choice though. I wish they'd get their 1st and 2nd choice (Melo and Love)....
  16. Whoa, Mason Robbins was Kiley McDaniels(who gets a lot of play here) #6 college hitter in his May 2013 "2014 MLB Draft Preview".
  17. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jun 7, 2014 -> 02:36 PM) You can give him any amount as long as you have it available from your allotment. Thus if the Sox underslot a bunch of guys in rounds 1 through 10 and free up a million, they could theoretically throw that million at him. Probably not very feasible considering Rodon is seeking big money as well. Teams will grab these tough signs after round 10 because in rounds 11 and on you don't lose the slot amount if you don't sign the player you select. If he goes to school, he goes to school. No harm no foul. Got it, thanks.
  18. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 7, 2014 -> 02:18 PM) Michael Hollenbeck, C Illinois State. Ranked 297 by BA.
  19. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 7, 2014 -> 11:28 AM) Two Montases. Rodon and Rondon. Oh, the humanity. And we also drafted a Montes De Oca....Though he is being dubbed unsignable.
  20. Montes De Oca looks like an absolute monster. 6'8" high schooler who's already throwing 97? What are the rules after the 10th round again?? Can't we throw as much money as we want at the kid??
  21. So when does it start today? I thought it was noon and with a pick every minute I'd see #11 by now. EDIT...whoops.
  22. ...must.....resist.....crazy....armchair GM....post.... no one....will care
  23. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jun 7, 2014 -> 09:37 AM) Seconded. At some point the "he's working on something" explanations have to translate to results. Hoping it happens because the groundball rate is pretty good. If the "he's working on his fastball" explanation is true, the strike out numbers won't be there. I read an article from last month, it may be the article talked about above, that he didn't throw a single breaking ball until the 5th in a game. Now I don't know how often this happens but if it's often I can understand the low K numbers.
