At this point I think someone spiked my Montas Kool Aid.... 1. Rodon 2. M. Johnson 3. Anderson 4. Montas 5. Davidson 6. Danish 7. Hawkins 8. Sanchez 9. Beck 10. Tie between Adam Lopez, Chris Bassit, and Micker Adolfo. Haven't seen any of em yet this year, but I like em all.

I see Chris Bassit was cleared for "full activity"...Any idea when he gets back on the mound? Also what's the latest on Lopez? -

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 03:19 PM) Yea I'm not seeing that. Aiken and Rodon and Kolek are widely considered potential aces. Rodon's stats in college compare well with Strasburgs. Apparently stats don't matter though. Nola's numbers are better than Rodons. -

QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 02:08 PM) In the first round, you're supposed to draft guys that could be stars. Nola will never be a star. Why waste the pick? You can get low ceiling college arms later in the draft. I'm sure it's been discussed A TON the last few months but I've kinda avoided all the talk because it's a discussion that I have no knowledge in, but why exactly can't Nola be a star? Perhaps I'm blinded by his numbers but a guy who goes 12-1 with a 1.47 era and a sub 1 whip in what looks like a pretty damn good SEC sounds like a player who could be a star.... Kevin Gausman is a top 20 prospect in the MLB, in their final seasons at LSU this is how they stack up... KG- 12-2 2.77 ERA 1.08 Whip 123 innings 135 Ks 28 Walks AN- 12-1 1.47 ERA 0.83 Whip 116 innings 134 Ks 27 Walks -

QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 01:06 PM) I still think people underestimate the fact that Sox could conceivably rate Nola as high because they think he will be a great pitcher not necessarily just because he is "safe". Indeed. Isn't the SEC one of the best conferences in college baseball??? Hard to argue with the success he had there. I like him more because of production than the fact that he's "safe" or is closest to the majors, those are just pluses. -
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 12:50 PM) And as everyone always tells you, you just can't do that. You can take a start or two away from everyone and their numbers look much better. Take Danks' two best starts away and let me know what his numbers look like. I can...and did
-
As most know, I love to cherry pick....Sans 2 games where Danks was absolutely shelled, giving up 15 runs in 9.2 innings, Johnny has a 2.89 ERA in his other 10 starts. 9 of his 12 starts have been of the quality variety..... I know a lot of people have talked about trading Danks, but if he keeps this up for the next 2 months, there's no way I'm trading him.

I'd be happy with any of the 4 guys speculated. I'm rather high on Nola. I know the draft is about projection, but I like production. 12-1 with a 1.57 ERA in the SEC??? Uh ya, I'd have no problem with that. The production put up by the high school kids is nice, but what was the level of competition there? I'm not saying I have Nola at the top of my list but I wouldn't question the pick one bit. -

I haven't been watching NXT, like at all... has Solomon Crow(Sami Callihan) been doing anything down there? I know it probably won't happen, at least anytime soon, but I'd love to see him get paired with Ambrose again. Not a real big fan of Ambrose as a singles wrestler, that's about the only knock I have on the Shield splitting up. -

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 2, 2014 -> 11:33 PM) This is the argument that people are making and I don't really get it. What is there for Cena right now? Bryan after the authority? When angles come to an end, there's not always a natural next feud next. You make something for The Shield and you know they would have made it absolutely awesome. As good as Rollins is, whatever he does as a single wrestler wont be as good as what The Shield were doing. It just wont be. I'm not sure anything will be as good as the faction vs faction stuff we've seen, but there's no other factions out there now. Do they just throw random groups together? Or go back to the way things were before pre Wyatts feud. They needed a something fresh, especially now with Bryan out, and this is it. -

I'm stoked about it honestly. What was gonna be left for the Shield after Evolution? Shield/Wyatts was already done. Tells me they think of Rollins in higher regard than the other 2, which is how it should be...Rollins is better than those 2 combined. -
There needs to be a name for Buehrle-type pitchers

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 2, 2014 -> 01:58 PM) Why isn't Buehrle an ace? In my mind he's better than an ace. He's f***ing unbelievable is what he is. Whoever let him walk and not pay him on the South Side should be ashamed. I can't believe some of the snide comments about Buehrle and Paulie, by far two of the greatest players in White Sox history. When Coop decides to retire, I hope Mark replaces him as pitching coach for the Sox. What are your thoughts on Jose Quintana? -
I'm really hoping for Rodon, and I'd love Jacob Lindgren with the 2nd pick. Lindgren sounds like a guy that can be in the pen as early as next year, and it'd be real nice to have a dominate lefty down in that pen.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 31, 2014 -> 08:32 PM) Agreed, maybe the most underachieving top 100 prospect in all of baseball. Just out of curiosity I looked into it....Of the top 100 prospects on MLB.com only Mason Williams(#63), Rosell Herrera(#86), and Phil Ervin(#91) have a lower OPS than Davidson(#67).

Should the Sox market Quintana for a trade?
2nd_city_saint787 replied to harfman77's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 31, 2014 -> 09:08 PM) If they are not willing to spend significant money to upgrade the starting rotation this core is not good enough to carry this rotation and there is nothing in the minors that will help the rotation anytime soon. I know you were optimistic (many would say overly so) about the pitching depth in the organization before this season began, unfortunately your optimism has been proven to be unfounded. Who says they won't be willing next year? This past offseason just wasn't the time to do it IMO. Too many question marks(both "positive" and "negative") to add high priced players. -

QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 31, 2014 -> 05:51 PM) I don't think there should be a magic wins number they have to get to before they spend money on pitching. The current state of the minor leagues, coupled with the position core basically being in place, dictates that they need to. In hindsight MAYBE this is true. Before this season who would have thought Gillaspie/Lexi/Beckham/Dunn/Viciedo/Flowers were all gonna play like they have been so far? Who knew Abreu was gonna take off right away? Eaton, while a highly thought of prospect, still never showed it at the big league level. Couple that with the whole giving up a fairly high draft pick and it made sense to go after a guy like Paulino who, even though he sucked, doesnt restrict you financially. Now next year, if they offense continues to play well, yes, they should absolutely consider spending big money on a SP. -

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 29, 2014 -> 04:31 PM) A lot (if not most) of hunting is done on private land. Farmers who are done with their crops let hunters they know (or don't) come on their land and get what they can, or they charge a nominal fee, or ask for a bird, or ask for meat, or whatever. That makes it quite a bit more difficult to rent guns, and it's not like the possibility for shootings are decreased based solely on that.[/b] So in other words, the post was dumb. As for the bold part, the point was to keep the hunters somewhat happy while banning guns as a whole to the general public. I'm "Anti-gun" so I obviously don't know the first thing about hunting.
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 29, 2014 -> 02:05 PM) So then you are banning hunting. I know a ton of people who would be incredibly unhappy about that. EDIT: I see this was covered already. Move along. What I'm about to say is either really smart, or really dumb. For hunting, how about they set up shops that rent guns near the forest preserves where hunting is legal? Throw some tracking devices on the guns and track it to make sure the gun doesn't leave the preserve. If it leaves the area the cops are called.
