QUOTE (oldsox @ Sep 3, 2014 -> 09:47 PM) Does anyone remember how long before the Danks extension and his injury? Got the extension in December of 2011, pitched 9 games in 2012. I believe he was hurt for most of those starts.

I blame Hawk.

John Danls appears to be the Adam Dunn of pitching (I profiled awhile ago about how Dunn hits good pitching).....Looking at his game logs he does well against good teams but is garbage against awful teams like the Twins, Astros, and Rangers. To elaborate, in 43.1 innings against sub .500 teams he has an 11.01 era In 121.2 innings against teams above .500 he has an era of 2.88. Baseball is such a fun game.

The ownage of John Danks by the Twins is bizzare...He's been bad a good deal of the year but disastrous against the Twins.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 3, 2014 -> 05:54 PM) Despite the Dice K and Tanaka situations? Hope they've done a lot of due diligence to make that move...and Maeda doesn't seem to move the meter (quite) to be that legitimate frontline starter that can come in and make an impact like Tanaka did with the Yankees before he went down. Agewise, he seems to fit the profile. Are they going to stick with the same posting system again or has it been changed another time? Or same as last year? As long as he doesn't get paid like a frontline starter, that's fine, he doesn't need to be. At some point the rotation is going to feature Sale, Rodon, and Q. If Rodon is the beast we all hope he is they don't need Maeda to be a legit frontline starter. I've read a lot on Maeda and I like him as well. Reminds me of Iwakuma who quietly has been one of the better starters in the league since coming over. He's not gonna be as hyped as Darvish and Tanaka, so I don't think he's gonna be paid like an ace. I'm guessing he gets somewhere in the 12M range annually.....Which is probably around what a guy like Masterson gets as well. I also do tend to agree with SS2k5 though. Unless they trade Danks we probably role with the rotation he brought up.....If they do trade Danks somehow I'd be all about Maeda. Sale-Q-Maeda-Rodon-Noesi would be sexy. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 3, 2014 -> 05:58 PM) On one hand I think about the crap trotting out on the d last year and think "this has to be better". On the other hand I think that there is still a massive middle hole that an nfl offense could easily execute against to great results. You could beat the bears last year on the rush up the middle, misdirection, long and short passes. Now you can kill them in the middle of the field and misdirection runs. How many TDs will that really save? There hasn't even been a regular season game played yet man. If they're giving up boatloads of yards on the ground after a few weeks then we can worry. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 3, 2014 -> 05:36 PM) That D was just decimated by injuries last year, and it started before the season even kicked off. Yup, it's a "miracle" that team, with one of the worst defenses of all time, finished 8-8. That's like the Sox finishing .500 with that bullpen. -

I went Martinez. He just seems like a guy who can produce for at least 3 more years. I'm sure he'll probably want 4 so try and frontload the deal so the 4th year isn't that bad. (I think that's a thing in baseball, I know it happens in football but we don't hear about it much in baseball). I'd like to see Semien get some time in LF a few times this month to see if he can hang out there. 1. Eaton 2. Semien 3. Abreu 4. Martinez 5. Garcia 6. Gillaspie 7. Ramirez 8. Flowers 9. Johnson/Sanchez Sign an impact bullpen arm and work the trade market for some more bullpen help.....If they can somehow move Danks without paying an arm and a leg then relocate that into another arm to go with Sale-Q-Rodon-Noesi. If Bassitt shows some signs down the stretch perhaps he can be that #5 and they can relocate Danks $ into yet another pen arm or 2. -
Only way Im taking Howard is if the also give us a good prospect and take Danks....Their prospects are garbage.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Sep 3, 2014 -> 12:07 AM) He is the best average hitter by far of the three and is probably the best fastball hitter of the three (and of course the youngest) I like Sanchez alot. I wouldn't say by far...Micahs best year average wise is just .11 points lower than Carlos' best year. -
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Sep 2, 2014 -> 11:19 PM) nice, i gotta see that! Sadly they didn't show it, at least on TV anyway. It was the last out and when they came back all they showed was Robin talking to the umps.

QUOTE (TRU @ Sep 2, 2014 -> 10:58 PM) Nice team, PPR I assume? Indeed. I think this team is gonna be the one I have the most questions about on here with all those RBs. Example, even though I drafted Tate and MJD before Thomas, I think I like Thomas a little better in a PPR. Esp. with Sproles gone. I'm debating who to start this week. Hindsight that kinda sounds dumb. -

I think Sanchez has the lowest ceiling of the 3 middle infielders and that's why he gets no love. That said if they think Micah is ready I won't be sad if they can get something useful(Like a bullpen arm) for him. I loves me some Micah Johnson. -
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Sep 2, 2014 -> 11:04 PM) why did eaton come out is he injured again? Thrown out arguing balls and strikes.
-
The magic is back! Hit safely in 6 of his last 7 with 3 HRs 2 doubles and 5 RBI.
-
Glad it was Suzuki on 3rd other wise that run probably would have scored (Yes I'm rooting for wins).
-
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 2, 2014 -> 09:17 PM) So why was Eaton ejected? Arguing balls and strikes I believe.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 2, 2014 -> 02:28 PM) They're unlikely to be able to do too much teaching in the middle of September, but, hey, why not, what's to lose? That said, if he's blocking Rodon from getting starts and they want Carlos for the rotation beginning opening week next year, it doesn't make sense, as they should be running Bassit out as a 7th-8th inning set-up guy in place of Belisario/Guerra and see how he does in that role, which is much more likely his future employment home...or as a long man, in the Carroll/Rienzo role from earlier in the season. It would appear that the Sox don't agree with this logic. Way I see it, Rodon is a lock as a future piece of the rotation. What he does in September would be irrelevant long term. Bassitt is a question mark who could use the starts as an audition.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 2, 2014 -> 02:06 PM) Did Winston-Salem make the playoffs? Is there a minor league team where Rodon could be headed? Doesn't make sense to hype the very likely possibility of Rodon pitching in September, just as a tease. Maybe they figured they could draw more Tigers/Royals/Indians fans to USCF than any Sox fans who would specifically come out to see a Rodon start. Hahn never said it was a lock or anything so it's not that big a tease. He stated numerous times that the decision on Rodon was predicated on what's best for his development big picture. I'm guessing the changeup isn't exactly where they want it to be. Also, thank you for changing your avatar lol....While funny I just couldn't look at that thing every time you posted.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 2, 2014 -> 01:44 PM) I didn't even get to see his MLB start. I'm going on what I know of him as a prospect, as I've been following him for years. Bassitt has a nice fastball that runs 92-96 with life. He also has a slider that is getting better, but is still major league average if that. He also gets some deception from his delivery. The rest of his pitches are WIP's, and aren't major league caliber at this point. He's also tended to do a lot better against righties than lefties, lacking that change-up or cutter to equalize against them. As a reliever, this can be covered a bit better with fewer pitches. It's possible he's a back end starter, but I think it is far more likely he's a 7th/8th inning reliever. And I do think he's got a good shot at doing well in that role. Well it would appear that we'll get 4 or 5 more starts at the big league level to see what he's got. I know I don't follow the minors as closely as you do so it's hard to really argue with you. His hook looked real nasty in his start Saturday, and it's possible that Coop could help him add that Coop cutter.
