Chris Bassitt to debut Saturday vs Tigers

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 29, 2014 -> 05:15 PM) I get it, but it's not like he's had a big picture worth of starts anyway. Neither did Q. Bassitt has had 54 starts in the minors, Q had 50, 29 of which were below A+. All of Bassitts starts have been above A+. Sox are pretty good at evaluating pitching, if they think he's ready, I'll accept that. -
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Aug 29, 2014 -> 06:09 PM) I think drafting FOR a reliever is about the absolute worst move you can make with your first round pick, probably even your first couple picks. Guess I should have noted that I was talking about the 2nd round. Of course I didn't want Burdi or Lindgren at #3, nor do I want one in the 1st round next year....Reed was drafted in the 3rd so it wouldn't be uncharacteristic of the Sox to grab one in the first few rounds.
-
Are there any nasty closers in this years draft? I know you don't draft for need, and some are against drafting RP early, but I was kinda hoping the Sox took Jacob Lindgren (Specifically him because he's a LHP) or Nick Burdi last year.... I know they don't really get the hype but sans maybe Ben Brewster, I can't think of a single RP to be "excited" about. There's been talk that Lindgren might get called up this year after posting a ridiculous 48/10 K/BB rate in 24 innings across 4 levels. (he went in the 2nd, 11 picks after Adams)

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 29, 2014 -> 02:54 PM) Nice write-up, and all good points. But I do think it is important to seperate the two concepts - ceiling and polish. They are a matrix. One can be high or low on either scale. If you don't allow for that, you box yourself in. Agreed, well put.

Wasn't Rodon considered the most polished college pitcher in the draft last year? I've read up on this DJ Stewart fellow and he sounds legit.

QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 10:44 PM) horrible draft. waited too long on the top RBs in an auction draft and ended up grabbing murray and a bunch of third tier RBs in hopes that a couple hit. and then later rounds missed my nomination turn and got stuck with yahoo defaulting a kicker and IDP leaving me with $5 on the table that I planned on spending towards another WR3/4 (guys like decker and sanders were still available, that hurts)... 10 team standard scoring, think I stand a chance? To me it's looking like a 6th/7th place type of team... QB - Foles RB - Murray RB - Bush/J. Bell WR - Jeffrey WR - Brown Flex - VJax TE - Davis DEF - SF Bench WR - Floyd RB - Richardson RB - Tate RB - CJ2K RB - Vereen If Vereen is the starter in NE (Pats beat writer is projecting Ridley to be cut, but I HIGHLY doubt that) Murray/Vereen isn't a bad RB tandem at all. To go back to the Brady discussion, the addition of Tim Wright could be huge for Brady. If they stay healthy, and Wright gets utilized like Hernandez, then a Gronk, Wright, Vereen, Edleman, LaFell etc. is a solid group to throw to....But then again health is of course a concern. -
Quality Start by Danks!

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 07:44 PM) Danks's pitching stat ranks, of qualified starters: ERA: 88th of 93 FIP: 93rd of 93 xFIP: 92nd of 93 SIERA: 89th of 93 But 54th in quality starts.

QUOTE (BaconOnAStick @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 06:55 PM) What's it like being the Dr Phil of Northwest Indiana? "Listen Bob, Inland Steel is not coming back." I does it for the ladies.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 06:33 PM) OK, that stuff is just silly. I think you're silly! Spencer Adams is human being damnit!

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 06:19 PM) If you want a good conspiracy theory, I would say it's more likely he was punished for calling someone on twitter a "f*****" the day after his last start. Possibly...FWIW though, that's his friend. Still probably shouldn't put it on twitter though I guess.
-
QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 06:09 PM) He says he's pitching tonight on his Twitter Guess I should have clicked on tweets and replies lol. Still think I'm wrong and just pulled that s*** outta my ass, but dude is just fresh outta high school, so he's not exactly a grown yet.

Hahn- Deal could happen before Aug 31

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 05:29 PM) If Dunn is still here on Sept 1st I will be surprised. Meh, I won't be...If he truly is asking for something decent back and doesn't get it he shouldn't just cave say alright here....Show other GMs that he don't f*** around. Play Semien all over the place to get him ABs. If they wanna give Wilkins a look they could still just sit Adam on the bench half the time and also give him a day a week at 1B. There's gonna be plenty of roster space. -
Probably wrong here, but judging by Adams twitter, he seems to be goin through a bit of a rough patch. Questioning who his real friends are, saying he hopes it all works out one day, asking himself why all the time, and retweeting some sad stuff. Now I fancy myself the Dr. Phil of NWI, and from what I've gathered, he either broke up with his girl or he was chasing after a girl he liked, got friend zoned and is taking it hard. Probably wrong on that being the reason, but who knows maybe the kid is emotionally fragile when it comes to the ladies and his minds not right right now...

Hahn has to be playing hard ball with Dunn I'd say. Probably asking for something decent in return and not getting it. I'd say if it happens it'll happen on the 30th or 31st after a team caves and gives up a prospect. -
Chris Bassitt to debut Saturday vs Tigers

QUOTE (Señor Ding-Dong @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 01:36 PM) I guess he's gonna stay on the 40-man then. Which takes him out of the AFL correct?? Maybe they give him the extra time he'd get in the AFL at the big league level. I certainly wouldn't mind seeing him get ~5 starts at the major league level....Again, Q only had 8 or 9 starts at AA, so it could happen if he looks good. -

All Hawk is saying when he calls Sanchez mini Maggs is that look a like, literally. He's not comparing how they look at the plate or who they are as players. -
Chris Bassitt to debut Saturday vs Tigers
2nd_city_saint787 replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The next Jose Quintana??? Q only had 9 starts in AA before coming to the bigs to stay. Bassitt has had 14 dating back to last year. In those 14 starts he's got an 1.97 ERA with a 73/31 K/BB rate in 82 innings.....Walks are a bit high but maybe Coop can see something he can fix in that regard. Here's a nice fangraphs article from last year... http://www.fangraphs.com/fantasy/chris-bas...ching-prospect/ -
QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 12:50 PM) https://twitter.com/JordanStrack/status/505049264754798592 Bassitt starting Saturday, it looks like. Oh I like that. Sans his last start dude was dominating AA since coming back from injury.
