Austin to return for 1 more match .....Well I thought it was funny. -
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 08:57 PM) It's more "a source confirms" but CNN is reporting that Wilson did not have a fractured orbital bone. http://www.salon.com/2014/08/21/cnn_refute...red_eye_socket/ Just wanted to point that out for someone who doesn't click the link.

IMO, Gillaspie got the call outta ST in an effort to make him a better trade piece. He then took off and Davidson fell off. s*** happens.
-
I think Dunn only goes if the Sox get something intriguing back. After hearing Abreu talk about the influence Dunn has had on him he sounds like a guy who would be helpful to have around the young guys coming up.

QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 07:10 PM) Supposedly Dorian Johnson, Browns accomplice in the robbery and a key witness, told a radio station that Brown did indeed attack the officer and tried to take his gun. http://therightscoop.com/report-key-witnes...officer-wilson/ They reported that last night, and this is the first I'm hear of it so, while it certain could be true and I do believe it, ya gotta question the legitimacy of it. Also it's a classic rock station, so there's that too. Lame...Believe they got this from a 2011 report where Johnson was charged with filing a false police report.

Not that festive of a Danish day.... 5.2 IP 6 hits 0 walks 4 Ks 2 runs 1 earned ....Still pretty good for a 19yo kid in A+ though.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 06:47 PM) Oh White Sox Facebook... lol I do like Bellasorryass though, don't think that's been said here yet.

QUOTE (ron883 @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 06:31 PM) His fielding at 2b is supposed to be slightly above average. He is also a better hitter than Johnson while being a year younger. He is 16 for 20 in SB attempt. He has to have at least above average speed. What makes Johnson better? That's debatable. Yes, he's been better in AAA this year but overall I'd say Micah has been the better hitter. Dude hit .329/.414/.466 in AA this year. Sanchez is repeating AAA for the 3rd year. I love Micahs upside and have no issue with him seemingly being the lead dog.
-
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 06:00 PM) Man, I'm disappointed that the Sox seem to have Sanchez and Micah ahead of Marcus on their future board. I still think Semien will be the best of the bunch. It is rather surprising, but hey're the ones with eyes on them day in and day out so I guess we'll just have to "take their word on it". Gotta be something beyond they stat lines they don't like. In limited time this year he couldn't hit the fastball, so maybe that's a problem of his. Or maybe it goes even further than that and the trade that Hahn brought up awhile ago that could happen in the offseason involved Marcus and they wanna "hide" him so the team doesn't change their mind. That logic is a little out there, or bizarre, but who knows..... Or like CWS just said it could be posturing by Hahn showcasing Sanchez. Which makes much more sense than what I just said lol. I do agree that one of the 3 will be traded this offseason.

QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 04:56 PM) Preparing for all the Omg how could the sox trade Beckham! Team leader, heart and hustle , etc etc lol I can't imagine you'll see that from anyone other than maybe elrockin.

Game threads just lost about 10 posts (Hi Bighurt3515 ) Kind of an odd move for the Angels. I thought a team looking to platoon him would try and snag him. Kendrick and Freese are both much better against LHP. Aybar hits just .226 against LHP so I wonder if they try him at SS. He's certainly an upgrade over John McDonald who is their current utility man.

FutureSox interviews RHP Chris Beck

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 10:30 AM) The only times they've played well two consecutive seasons are 1993-94 and 2005-06. I hope you're right. The only comparison we can make is the falloff from the 1983 White Sox. They lost over half their attendance in the span of 5 seasons, going from 3rd in the American League in 1984 to 14th and barely over 1 million in 1989. It's a good comparison because, while there was no new stadium, that 1990 team had Ventura, Thomas (as a rookie) and many reasons to be optimistic as a White Sox fan with the influx of young talent. However, the 2015 team is going to have to finish at 90 games or better to duplicate that turnaround from 1,045,000 in 1989 to over 2,000,000 in 1990. How likely is that to happen? Who cares?? Like others have said, there's no correlation between attendance and salary. Seattle had worse attendance than the Sox the past few years and yet they went out and signed Cano, Rodney, and Hart. Few years ago Cleveland had spent a bunch of money on Swisher and Bourne and they had worse attendance than the Sox. I'm sure there's other cases as well. If JR and Hahn think this team is ready, money will be spent. Whether the fans are ready or not is irrelevant EDIT- BTW, Well done on the interview. I'm rooting for the kid. -
QUOTE (LDF @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 02:22 PM) first, it was the mlb powers to be that force mexico to banned him for the fake passport. what is your point is he not playing in Japan? doesn't he need to defect in order to play in mlb? does he not have family high in the cuban gov?? and lastly isn't he not going to defect???? where are you coming from to try to argue this point. Point is we don't know if he's going to defect or not. Like he said, and I researched to be true, because he was banned from the Mexican league doesn't mean he can't play in the bigs. From MLBtraderumors To my earlier point about his numbers being comparable to Abreus, a website broke down a 3 year period of stats between the 2.. Abreu- 1015 ABs .356/.478/.681 180 OPS+ 224 ISO+ Despaigne- 1183 ABs .353/.456/.670 183 OPS+ 252 ISO+

QUOTE (beautox @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 01:57 PM) thats not true at all, MLB has gone on record saying they wouldn't enforce the ban of the mexican league on mlb. if Despaigne wants to play in the bigs he has to defect from cuba and establish residency somewhere else, simple as that. And I really hope that happens, dudes numbers were right up there with Abreus in Cuba.

QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 01:30 PM) People get their own choices on keepers. They lose the corresponding draft pick (10th round or higher) where their keeper was drafted the year before - and only keep two guys. If the guy was drafted after 10 or undrafted, he's a 10th round keeper. What happens if teams don't set their keepers? Looks like 5 of the 12 teams have not. On that note I'll call those guys out... QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 01:21 PM) How does your keeper league work? Seems odd that Charles could be kept but the other 3 couldn't. Looking at the league now, Forte(Fear Boners) and APs(Papabears) teams haven't made their keeper picks yet, so it looks like I might not get to choose from those 2. I had McCoy last year, and with the top overall pick making him my keeper would be silly. -

QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 01:18 PM) Had a poor 2013 season - my keepers are 9th and 10th round. Cordarrelle Patterson and Andre Ellington. The good news is, I have the 2nd overall pick and at the moment I can choose either Adrian Peterson or Matt Forte in round 1 and Aaron Rodgers in round 2. I am in PPR, what sleepers would you all recommend? I assume you're talking about your soxtalk league, and that's what my post was about as well. You may be looking at Shady in the first since I'm seriously considering AP or Forte. I think Sproles(and maybe even Barner who the Eagles traded for) is gonna take away a lot of value from McCoy. -

With Sproles in Philly now do you guys think Adrian Peterson or Matt Forte might be a better pick at 1 overall than Shady? Norv Turner is the OC in Minny now and he likes throwing the ball to the back so that might make AP even more valuable. (It's a keeper league, and Charles has been kept) -
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 11:42 AM) Danish Day, Danish Day! This has become a legit thing for me as I've been dieting. I've made his starts my cheat day and I walk to the bakery and grab 2 cheese danishes, 1 for breakfast and 1 for dessert....I love Danish Day!

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 12:26 PM) Danks has absolutely gone into the tank over the last month. I think Ptatc is on to something with some fatigue issues either causing bad mechanics or overthrowing to make up for it. He hasn't be mechanically right for a while now. That wouldn't surprise me one bit. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 12:24 PM) And those are absolutely acceptable numbers for Hector Noesi or Scott Carroll, but certainly not someone being paid $13-15 million per season. I added the caveat of the sucktitude of him not being paid like a 4/5 to my post right as you made this. I agree. We have 2 top of the rotation starters that are being paid like mid/back end guys so it kinda evens out in the end...... I'm not saying I wouldn't love to trade him, simply that I believe him being in the rotation is not THAT big a deal. -

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 12:04 PM) It only makes sense if you can show us how the rest of the league looks when you take away their worst starts. If the delta between Danks and the rest of the league remains the same, then your argument goes out the window. I have a feeling most starters would benefit similarly if you removed the worst 20% of their starts. I'm not disagreeing with the bold. All I'm saying is in 80% of his starts he's been serviceable. Period. And as a 4/5 starter, I'm fine with that. Only thing that sucks is he isn't getting paid like a 4/5. Just for funsies though, I'll do it to a guy a lot of people bring up, Edwin Jackson...Take out his 5 best starts and he has a 4.37 ERA. -

QUOTE (raBBit @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 11:36 AM) Can't this be said about almost any pitcher... Yes, but I'd still take a pitcher, as 4/5, who can give you decent starts most of the time. I made a mistake, he's had 5 reallly bad games where he gave up 37 runs in 23.2 IP. In his other 20 starts he has an ERA of 3.27. I know people say that doesn't really matter, I'm just cherry picking, and it makes no sense, but to me it does. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 11:12 AM) The back year of those deals don't match up. So the Sox would be looking for money for covering that last $30 million, at the very least. John Danks is $14.25 million the next two years. That makes the differences (again at the very least) 2015 $9.15 million 2016 $16.15 million 2017 $30.4 million Ya, I think I'd be happy with 20M on top of taking Danks. If Hahn and JR really wanna contend I could see that payroll up over 100M come 2017. I still like Danks though. Think he's a quality #4/5. It just sucks that he's paid so much. If he can just avoid the big games, he has had 4 of em, his numbers would still look halfway decent.
