  1. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Sep 7, 2014 -> 02:59 PM) No flags??? Ya that should have been illegal contact past 5 yards.
  2. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 7, 2014 -> 02:24 PM) Not a fan of what's going on with Marshall right now. Also, why did Alshon disappear? Michael C. Wright ‏@mikecwright 1m Alshon Jeffery hasn't been in the game in a while, and it looks like Brandon Marshall could be out after limping off that last series. =(
  3. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Sep 7, 2014 -> 12:50 PM) Willie Young has been our best D-lineman today. Ya he's looked real good and is seemingly getting more playing time than I thought....DL hasn't looked bad IMO. Run defense up the middle hasn't been brutal.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 6, 2014 -> 09:35 AM) Daryl Van Schouwen ‏@CST_soxvan 10h Also, Leury Garcia's sacrifice that took bat out of Abreu's hands didn't come from dugout or coach's box. "So they're letting the inmates run the prison?"
  5. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Sep 5, 2014 -> 10:29 PM) Stay out of the double play. Garcia has a 62.5% ground ball rate Of course this point gets ignored. And lets not act like his speed would keep him out of a DP. He's had 32 ABs with a runner on 1B. 13 of those ABs resulted in a K, no walks. So he's put the ball in play 19 times with a runner on 1B. 6 have been hits....6 have been DPs. For reference Adam Eaton and Conor Gillaspie have a hit into a combined 6 DPs in over 800 ABs. Hell even the sloth that is PK has only GIDP 7 times in 50 more ABs than Leury.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 5, 2014 -> 06:28 PM) Well .844 isn't bad and .850 is right there. Last year he was coming off an injury and was over .900 the second half. He makes a ton of contact and has been pretty consistent. Considering he has been putting up .850 OPS like numbers since 2004, and doesn't appear to be slowing down with the bat, it is more than a reasonable assumption. If we all use your logic, he wouldn't be putting up the numbers he has been putting up. As long as he can hit fastballs, he will be a great hitter. Unless he gets injured, I doubt that drops significantly the next couple of seasons. He is perfect for the White Sox. A switch hitting presence who puts the ball in play and hits with authority. If it only costs money, it is well worth the gamble. Again, I think someone will probably go crazy and he will wind up somewhere else, but there are some things that could indicate that maybe he his price tag will be right. The bold is my key to him being a quality 3-4 more years in the league. He makes a ton of contact because he's just such a smart hitter who has an uncanny eye for the strike zone. The guy had a streak of 641 plate appearances without being called out on strikes. That's ridiculous.....I think guys like him can play till the'yre 40 esp. as a DH.
  7. QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 5, 2014 -> 02:38 PM) I was reading mlb trade rumors and snippet of the Phil maybe looking to trade Domonic Brown or something to that affect. question, I wonder what it would take for the sox to trade for him? I mean a very realistic offer to Philly. why would Philly want to trade him? Because Dominic Brown is not very good. He's a left handed Dayan Viciedo. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Sep 5, 2014 -> 02:52 PM) I'd probably take Willingham if he doesn't cost a pick, kinda like a 2005 move. I'd rather trade for a young guy though. No way Willingham gets a QO. Wonder how much Cuddyer gets. He's been injured this year so that should drive his price down a bit. I'd love to have him here on a 2 year deal to DH and occasionally play the OF.
  8. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 5, 2014 -> 11:40 AM) IIRC the Sox had a pretty mediocre offense, right in the middle of the pack Ah yes, I was looking at them and comparing them to this years standards...They scored 741 that year which is 235 more than this year, but only ranked 13th in 05. Still want Stanton if possible. I think they can get him while also being able to upgrade the pitching staff.
  9. QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 5, 2014 -> 11:41 AM) Sorry, Ellington owners =( just got the news, he's in my pay league.....Sproles, Hartline, or Cooper as his replacement at the flex? Still not sure of Sproles role yet.
  10. Danny Woodhead was dropped in one of my leagues (By a guy who is new to FF)....Should I pick him up over Terrence West or MJD? It's of course a PPR league.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 5, 2014 -> 09:35 AM) Just because the Sox can spend, doesn't mean they will be the highest bidders. If Seattle offers 4/60 to try to get Martinez there, what do the White Sox do to top that? It doesn't, but the way you worded it lead me to believe that they wouldn't be able to offer anything comparable to said deal which I believe they can. I wouldn't hate to see them go 4/65 with the deal with the deal being somewhat front loaded, but that is coming from a guy who thinks he'll still be "good" even in the 4th year.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 5, 2014 -> 09:07 AM) I'm not sure what the Sox can offer VMart that someone else can't offer more of. There are teams that have a better chance of winning, and others that will offer more money/years on a deal. Like Rock said, when the Sox feel like they can compete the payroll, more than likely, will be 100M+. After arbitration I think the Sox will be, at max, around 65M if they offer it to everyone.....If they think VMart puts them over the top, the money is there IMO.
  13. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Sep 5, 2014 -> 08:31 AM) Lol, you very clearly did NOT read the article, since you are citing the part of it where he is describing the traditional batting order roles that he spends the rest of the article arguing are wrong. lol nope... Thought the top was the basically the cliff notes of the article.....I retract my previous statement
  14. I'm all about another college pitcher and if they draft played out like that I'd be happy with the Sox having their choice of Fulmer, Buelher, Ferrell, and Funkhouser.....Happ and Stewart also looks interesting.....Haven't looked into any of the HS players yet since I'd prefer a college guy.
  15. It's not that crazy a statement. Offense looks really good against what is supposed to be an improved packers D.
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 4, 2014 -> 09:37 PM) When does Quintana's deal end? Shouldn't it at least be through 2018, if not longer? Well I hypothetically said I'd give up Q for Stanton. If they can get Stanton without giving up Q then that makes things even better because of how cheap his contract is. Tack on a meager 3.4, 5.4, 7, and 8.4 million respectively through 2018 with a 10.5 and 11.5 option for 2019 and 2020.
  17. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Sep 4, 2014 -> 09:33 PM) Did you read the article? Did you? 5th: Complete the “heart” of the order; a good power hitter........ Conor Gillaspie doesn't appear to be a good power hitter. 2nd: Guy who can drop a bunt or draw a walk. Never seen Avi lay down a bunt, but he sure doesn't seem like a guy who will draw a walk that much. No thanks on Gillaspie to LF. I know it's done for defensive purposes, but I'd rather see Semien in LF and Gillaspie stay at 3B. With those guys and using that format the lineup should be... 1 Eaton 2 Semien 3 Martinez 4 Abreu 5 Garcia 6 Gillaspie 7 Ramirez 8 Johnson 9 Flowers Which would be a damn good lineup, esp. if Semien can translate his ability to take a walk to the bigs. Eaton, Semien, and Martinez would be on base a lot in front of Abreu.
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 4, 2014 -> 07:01 PM) Everyone's suddenly forgetting how we won a championship in 2005. That team didn't have any superstars or HOF players, other than Thomas on his last legs and sitting out. Pitching, pitching, pitching. And solid players at every position who played together as a team, and played the game the right way. And an amazing bullpen, a once in every 20-30 years performance out of all the pitchers. Creating this superstar-driven team with Sale, Abreu and Stanton just isn't the way to get there. Certainly not wrong, but that team still had a big time offense. We need a Dye to our PK(Abreu). If they can snag Stanton they're probably gonna be willing to put that payroll back up into the 120 range. Say Stanton gets 25M a year, that'll put the Sox salary at ~75M next year, 71M in 2016, Danks and Lexi's 25M come off the books in 2017, and Abreu/Sale are the only guys locked up in 2018. Trading Lexi for pitching could also free up even more $$. If they do decide to get that payroll back up to ~120 Stantons ~25 wouldn't prevent them from adding pitching.
  19. If you can get Stanton, you do it. If he decides to walk after a season then ya, you're f***ed, but he is absolutely worth the shot. I'd give up Q AND Anderson at a shot to get him. He's a game changer.
  20. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Sep 4, 2014 -> 02:29 PM) The problem is that he SUCKS against LHP. It's an obvious platoon situation and Robin doesn't see it. An idea that could easily work is to use Semian as a true super sub next year (he was playing SS in AAA) as a platoon 3B against LHP for Conor and a day off sub for Alexei, Sanchez and whoever if in LF. That would get him 300 or so PA and it protects Conor's value because he loses a lot of it against LHP. C'mon now....Who prior to Semien getting called up could have platooned with Gillaspie? Lets not throw stones at Robin for not platooning him when Leury Garcia was his backup infielder.
  21. You'd think if Shea was a Lovie pick he wouldn't be given all these chances. Dude is a starting LB this year, and I actually think he'll do well in that role.
  22. I'm not as high on Gillaspie as others are but he's certainly earned a spot on next years squad to see which version of him is legit.
  23. QUOTE (Señor Ding-Dong @ Sep 3, 2014 -> 11:19 PM) Second game in a row where Hawk said "Aww, f*** it!" and packed it up early. Very unprofessional. It's almost impossible to defend the guy anymore. Have you listened to the games? Dudes allergies have really hit him hard. Probably shouldn't have even showed up to begin with. I've been dealing with the same and they're the worst!
