  1. Overall, this country can not handle the rights afforded it by the 2nd amendment. To me the argument of "mass shootings are not about guns, they are about mental health" is comparable to "the civil war was not fought about slavery, it was about states rights" If this last shooting proves anything, it is that the system in place failed on many levels, including the mental health perspective. If we can't stop this guy Cruz with all the warning signs screaming at us, then we need a sweeping "knee jerk" repeal of the 2nd amendment; strict federal laws regarding firearms production, import, transport, sale, etc.; and implementation of rigid ownership restrictions at the state level. In the meantime, the lawsuits against gun manufacturers, distributors, etc. need to pile up and hit them in their pocket book while all recipients of NRA political donations need to be outed loudly and frequently. If they are going to do the bidding of the NRA, they need to be identified for their complicity.
  2. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Feb 6, 2018 -> 02:51 PM) ... the greggster. He's been peering into his seeing eye rabbit hole again. This site is way more enjoyable if you put this poster on ignore. If he's not a troll, then he's the Soxtalk version of a WSCR caller during Mike North hosted programs. I'm not sure which is worse between a deliberate instigator or a natural idiot, but the "ignore" option keeps me from having to deal with either option.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 1, 2018 -> 05:32 PM) Well first of all no one cares about veteran leadership from Matt Kemp or really any other player. If we need more veteran leadership than Jose Abreu then frankly we need better coaches. On top of that, yeah Kemp isn't a guy with that good of a leadership rep. More than that, you don't need to apologize for the "add a solid prospect to our system" part. Including me, everyone above you has basically said "doing this in free agency isn't a good idea at all, we wouldn't want to just take on Kemp, but if the Dodgers made it worth it to us - by doing as you say and giving us something we'd want, we'd go for it". So we basically agree with you except on the veteran leadership part. I obviously didn't do any research on Kemp's clubhouse presence, but it was more of an hypothetical "if all you get is an old guy telling jokes on the bench..." rather than a commentary on Kemp in particular. We are on the same page, though. A rebuilding team with low payroll like the Sox should pursue every angle to add to the farm. I see no issue with helping teams free up salary if it benefits the Sox long term. In other news, no matter what happens between now and March 29, I am excited to see how these players develop this season.
  4. I'm sorry, but if the Sox can help the Dodgers cut payroll and add a solid prospect to our system in the process, I have to do that deal. The Dodgers then have more ability to sign Darvish, leaving only Arrieta on the table. If Kemp only provides veteran leadership as the 25th man off the bench, it seems worth the $ when payroll is so low right now anyway. For that matter, make a trade with the Brewers, to help them free up $ for Arrieta and kick us a prospect as well. What am I missing?
  5. QUOTE (Tony @ Oct 23, 2017 -> 04:37 PM) You are a fascinating human troll. Fixed
  6. QUOTE (joejoedairy @ Oct 9, 2017 -> 02:52 PM) He's doing the red sox - astros series for ESPN radio. He is so brutal on the radio. Like he knows so few people outside Boston and Houston are listening that he doesn't care how biased he sounds.
  7. Was listening to this game on the radio a bit yesterday. How can they assign a Boston game to Berman? He is such an insufferable homeboy with the pro-Red Sox/Fenway drivel he spews. When Boston went up 4-3, he made the very important point that the rally that inning guaranteed the Fenway crowd would now be into the game for a full 9 innings. Great analysis, Chris.
  8. QUOTE (hi8is @ Oct 7, 2017 -> 09:13 PM) Your nickname is hereby changed to, "Thumbs" Or "Meth head"
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 25, 2017 -> 07:39 PM) Aaron Judge hit his 50th of the season, erasing Mark McGwires rookie record of 49 homers. Am I mistaken, or is Judge a virtual lock to win the three true outcomes this season?
  10. QUOTE (Tony @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 10:26 AM) So no response, Greg? Nothing? He never breaks character
  11. Yeah, Greg's not a troll. He just vacillates between sounding like a drunk on the corner bar stool and a starry eyed child seeking autographs at the player's lot fence. Add in the KC shtick and he sounds almost real. Please stop responding to this fool, people.
  12. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 11:49 PM) I thought I'd want that when he was traded to Boston, but my Red Sox hate turned out to be too strong. I suppose I'd be less displeased with them winning now, since Hot Air Balloon Head is retired, but with the kind of person he is, he'd be all over the FOX broadcasts and it'd almost be like he was still a part of the team. ^^This I's prefer the Yankees or Cardinals win another title over seeing the Red Sox succeed, Chris Sale or not. They combine the worst traits of Yankee and Cubs fan bases. Arrogant, entitled, delusional, and whiny all rolled into an annoying package.
  13. 7-5 Phils now. Bottom 8 and still batting.
  14. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 12:43 PM) The Indians have the longest winning streak in the history of baseball. People should be making a bigger deal out of this. Indians win 22 in a row, but let's go back to Boston to report on a breaking story... Red Sox Nation is whiter than Iceland! Teams that deserve more air time over others: Yankees Red Sox Cubs Dodgers Giants Cardinals All others can suck it. It's the same boring s*** every day of every season.
  15. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 11, 2017 -> 05:17 PM) You literally just proved his point about yelling at a cloud and made up some story about people on this site not appreciating Abreu And Pants Rowland can't read your reply because he blocked you What'd he say about me?!
  16. QUOTE (Tony @ Sep 10, 2017 -> 09:45 PM) You are #FakeNews I am baffled by the posters who still argue Greg isn't a troll. I think they got so numb to his deliberately ignorant and/or silly posts that they no longer even bother to read them. No idea why more people don't block him.
  17. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 11, 2017 -> 09:57 AM) Even Abreu's defense has improved throughout the year I think you might be a tad biased. ;-)
  18. QUOTE (Tannerfan @ Aug 30, 2017 -> 01:01 PM) When you're 59 like me ALL 21 year olds are good looking. So funny you say that. 43 here and I suspect lower T levels have me transitioning from thinking "she's hot" to "s/he is a good looking young kid." It's like I only have one head doing the thinking and it is above my neck.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 08:22 AM) He came across terrible on that. Link?
  20. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jul 30, 2017 -> 10:25 PM) Nooooo, we had a GM during that time, a fella as I mentioned earlier named Ron Schueler. Should think I wouldn't have to remind your prescient mind about him, Dick, but apparently I do, and I already did in a post prior to this knee-jerk rant against me, but whatever. Do us all a favor and put the "evil Thad Bosley comments" that you are now railing against to rest by presenting Ron Schueler's statements in 1997 about what "wasn't available and for what cost" at that deadline that caused the team's course of action then. I find that one key point is always left out of discussions about this trade. While it proved to be a PR nightmare, and the ultimate return on investment was disappointing, that team was NOT good! It was at the end of that core's window to compete and the cracks had been showing for some time. Ventura's injury further accelerated the decline. In fact, many outside the meatball fan base may say the window had closed in 1995 when Cleveland started its 5 year run of dominance in the AL Central. Yes, the Sox were only 3.5 games back, but it was clear who the class of the division was. My opinion is it would have taken one of those crazy 25 wins out of 30 games type of runs to not only overtake Cleveland, but also keep them down through season's end. They ultimately woke up and not only won the division, but also took the pennant and damn near the series. Cleveland was a lot like the 2017 Cubs. They got a little fat and full of themselves, and the league figured out a few ways to get their them out from time to time, but it was only a matter of time before they flipped the switch. The fact is, while the trade raised eyebrows as a surrender, the post strike venom for JR is what really fueled the negative campaign that ensued. The local press seized the opportunity to bury JR and the Sox, and it wasn't until 2005 that it appeared to finally be water under the bridge. But, sure enough, someone felt the need to dust off this so called surrender story. I can't believe someone thought to start a 20 year anniversary thread. Please stop, people.
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 12:01 AM) Figured I'd post this in the Cub thread. ... So the Cubs acquire Q. I actually believe I posted a while back, if not I certainly thought it, that the Cubs actually could really use Q this season. Bear with me on this. They are having a fairly rotten first half, but are only a couple games behind a Brewers team not ready for prime time. The Cubs may be a bit worn down after playing all those games last year, but they certainly need a jolt to wake up what after last season was deemed a potential dynasty. Now if Q builds on that recent 10-strikeout outing and is effective, he could really ignite that team and get its act together to storm past a pretender Milwaukee team and stay ahead of a not-so-great Cardinals team. My question is ... if Q is excellent and is one of the reasons they wake up and win their division and win the WS again, does that make this trade rather dumb on the Sox part? I mean in helping the Cubs win another title? I realize the guy the Sox got could be a legendary hitter for the Sox someday (oops is his agent Boras too?). But, IF this propels the Cubs to a repeat title and the fact the Cubs own the city already, would that make this trade ill advised? Remember, a Cubs repeat title would again bury the Sox in terms of local and national attention and make them an afterthought compared to the darling Cubs. So IF this helps the Cubs win the crown, will u be quite upset with Hahn or not? No. I wanted Rick Hahn to get the best value for Quintana and continue to bolster the quality and quantity of the farm system. If 1-2 of the players the Sox received in return prove to be formidable major league players within the next 2-3 years, I couldn't care less. Also, it makes no sense to limit your options for trading partners, especially when there are only 29 total candidates. The more business relationships you have, the more successful your organization will be. That goes for baseball and beyond. I believe Rick Hahn saw an opportunity to get a team to overpay compared to the other offers out there. The concern over the Brewers stepping into the Quintana talks motivated Epstein to deliver the best offer. I think it was a smart move for the Sox today. It will just take longer to see if it proves fruitful for the Sox, no matter what the Cubs and Quintana do in the short term.
  22. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jun 24, 2017 -> 09:29 AM) Where can I find the penis thread? Asking for a friend?
  23. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 06:15 PM) A pitcher of Chris Sale's caliber, at his age, with his contract situation has basically almost never been traded before. Johan Santana trade to the Mets is the only one that comes to mind, but they had to sign him to a market deal still. That was a pretty good haul they got at the time.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 16, 2016 -> 02:32 PM) Jim Kirk ‏@kirkjim12 1h1 hour ago Sox' Williams refuses to discuss Chris Sale trade rumors http://bit.ly/2fDJMtE via @suntimes It's KW. Give him time and he'll talk.
