QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ May 24, 2006 -> 02:08 AM) Classless Sox fans, mocking his religious beliefs...... No, that is not it at all. They were pointing at AJP's ball as it sailed over the 408 sign.

QUOTE(SnB @ May 24, 2006 -> 08:29 PM) oh man santo, i never saw that pic that's in your sig before. HI-f***ing-larious Agreed. Just fired that one of to a few of my favorite Cub fan pals.

Crankiness??? My wife would have missed the last half decade if she let crankiness keep her out of the game.

QUOTE(pcullotta @ May 24, 2006 -> 03:23 PM) I think this is my favorite thing about the Cubs year so far: Juan Pierre: AVG .230 | HR 0 | RBI 2 | OBP .269 | SLG .288 | SB 14 | Salary 5.8 Mil Corey Patterson: AVG .306 | HR 5 | RBI 18 | OBP .358 | SLG .505 | SB 15 | Salary 2.8 Mil The above says a lot about the Cubs. It is not the players. It is the manager, GM, execs, ball park and fans. I can't put my finger on it completely but the combination of those things, to varying degrees, dooms this club every year. I am not talking about a curse. I don't believe in such things. They are reguarly in the top 1/3 of payroll every year. They do just enough in free agency every year to get the suckers to bite. The fans are pothetically optomistic. They should copy right the phrase "Just wait till next year." They are trapped in Wrigley. They can never leave that park. Eventually, it will start to hurt the bottom line. Playing day games all the time is not a good thing, IMO. They can not maintain a good ball club over a number of years. They get good for one year and them fall off badly for the next several. I don't know what it is but I honestly feel bad for Cub die hards.

Anyone know where to find the history of transactions made in '86 (Hawk's GM year) ? I found his draft that year, Radinsky was #1, but I would like to look at some of those trades again. Larry Himes had some great drafts. McDowell '87, Vebtura '88 and Thomas '89.

I don't think the article is very good at all. Everyone acts like he is Theo Fluery or Romanowski. I don't buy the story about the trainer. What I see is a guy who plays balls to the wall, everytime. He is clutch, smart and solid on both sides of the plate. There is a big difference in playing with your heart on your sleeve and dirty.

Go with Timo Parez. I will sell you one cheap. It is hanging in my closet next to my Kyle Orton Jersey. :headshake Kidding.... Well, not about the Orton Jersey. My wife went to Purdue so it was a gift for her.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 24, 2006 -> 02:18 PM) Yet another reason for me not to buy a GM vehicle, as if I needed more. Forget the vehicle, avoid the stock. What a waste of money. A large portion of SUV owners are small business owners and they buy the big trucks because, over a certain size, the whole cost is a tax write off. American auto manufacturers are getting thier asses waxed by Toyota because the Japanese make a car people want to drive. This gas thing is just another example that they don't get it.

Defense wins championships. Hate to lose the bat for the first 5-6 innings but I would much rather have the infield intact than have monkey around with finding a place to play Thome. Interesting question is who bats third. Right now, I would put AJP there and let Dye stay at 5. Move every body else up one slot and Ps bat in the 9 hole, ofcourse. Pods Gooch AJP Konerko Dye Crede Uribe Anderson/Mac Pitcher Looking at it, maybe move Uribe up and Crede down one. Hmmm....

There is more to this story. The misquotes ended up in the Trib article about the whole thing (Sullivan). The Sun~Times story actually researched the interview on the SCR web-site and said that Dempster was not miss quoted by North.

The play.

They made that mistake with Baines who went on to play for another 5 years or something. Not yet. Wait till he is out of it and cooled off a bit too.

WSCR... Anyone know what this was all about?

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ May 22, 2006 -> 04:21 PM) Paul Sullivan. There's a thread in the Diamond Club about Hendry/McPhail calling him into their office to discuss his reporting of the Cubs. Thanks.... took a look but couldn't see anything that jumped out at me. Remember the title? (Why is search disabled?) -
I was/am not a Frank fan but he should be cheered. I heard the Sox have a video to play and are planning to stop the game in his honor.
-
This afternoon, they were talking about a little influence peddling by McFailure and Hendry on a Trib reporter. I didn't get any of the details. Anyone know what reporter they are talking about, the story they tried to craft for him and if the reporter towed the company line?

QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 22, 2006 -> 03:17 PM) On their MLB board, alot of them side with AJP. I mean, Barrett's actions were so retarded even he admitted that he was wrong. Sorry, nothing to post here. It is just that I would like to read what Rock wrote but can't seem to avert my eyes from his avatar.

"Sox are Champs and Cubs can't Barrett"
My Dixie Normus replied to whitesoxin''s topic in Pale Hose Talk
The picture on the back page of the Herald today is awesome. It is a shot of the play but the fans behind home plate are in focus, not the two ball players. The faces are a riot. One little hottie in pig tails with her jaw dropped.... Yeeeessss!! -
Bruce Levine speculates about Cubs suspensions
My Dixie Normus replied to BigSqwert's topic in The Diamond Club
If AJ gets anything, I will be pissed. Listening to him on the radio this morning, he sounds really depressed. I am not sure what was going on at home but he seems upset about it. Then you add this crap and Carlos Zambrano's BS on Sunday... Every Cub fan I have talked to is ashamed of what happened, as they should be. The best move Dusty Baker has made all year was sending Hill back to the minors. It should have been his last move. If the Sox win on Sunday, I think they finally pull the trigger on him. The Cubs fan base is at rock bottom from the ones I talked to anyway. -
White Sox versus that other team in town
My Dixie Normus replied to Heads22's topic in 2006 Season in Review
Be very afraid of wounded animals. Right now the Cubs scare me. They have nothing to play for BUT this series right now. This would be the only thing they could hang thier hats on this season... beating the World Champs and the challenger to their population trophy. I don't think winning this seires would mean as much to the Sox as it would to the Cubs. That concerns me. -
Hawk should have been shipped out for good when he tried to move a HOF catcher to left field. I have never liked him when he was with Donald Drysdale, two egos so big they had a reverse polarity that very nearly tore a hole in the space/time continuum. He couldn't get along with Whimpy who, I can tell you from personal experience, is one of the happiest, go lucky people I have ever met. Then came DJ, who for the first several years of his tenure, I thought was in coma. Should the Sox ever fall to me, they would be the first move I made. He gone and he gone.

Well, we have gotten pretty far off topic but yes, you would have to include Ft. Worth. Philly also has more people within 100 miles. Boston, Washington.... on and on. But San Antonio has a little of that too. I don't see Vegas getting a team before LA. Or any other city before LA. And IMO it will be an existing team.

QUOTE(Mplssoxfan @ May 16, 2006 -> 05:55 PM) Perjuring about getting a (legal, but utterly classless) blowjob = "Fry the bastard, impeach him!" Perjuring about committing a felony, or aiding and abetting in said felony (revealing the identity of a covert CIA agent) = "Inconsistency in testimony, of course people can't remember what they said in other sessions, they're only human after all." I'll try to remember this handy conservative primer for the next scandal down the pike. Thanks a million! The charge against Clinton was obstruction of justice. He lied giving testimony in a cival trial on order to influence the outcome. That is far different. There was no crime in the Plame case. Every indictment has come out of what happened in Grand Jury testimony. Fitz has fumbled the ball several times against Libby and his fishing license is about to expire. This whole thing is an utter waste of time and politcal breath.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ May 16, 2006 -> 11:42 PM) I dont see a team going to Las Vegas and dont think there would be as many fans there to support it anyways. Also I dont think San Antonio is neccesarily ahead of us either. The NFL failed twice in LA hasnt it whats the point going for a 3rd attempt? TV money is the point of a 3rd attempt in LA. The Rams never had the right personality for LA and the Raiders were always seen as carpet baggers. No one thought they would stay and they didn't. San Antonio is the 8th largest city in America. Larger than all of these NFL cities. They could easily support an NFL team. They are far and away ahead of a second team in Chicago and right behind LA for the next team available. Dallas, Tex. Detroit, Mich. Indianapolis, Ind. Jacksonville, Fla. San Francisco, Calif. Baltimore, Md. Seattle, Wash. Boston, Mass. Denver, Colo. Washington, DC New Orleans, La. Cleveland, Ohio Kansas City, Mo. Atlanta, Ga. Oakland, Calif. Miami, Fla. Minneapolis, Minn. Vegas falls in between DC and New Orleans and is the fastest growing city in the US. The casinos would buy up 1/4 of the stadium at least and the home games would become a road trip destination for every NFL fan. But the NFL would want to associate itself with gambling so closely. If it wasn't for gambling, the NFL would not enjoy the popularity it does but that doesn't mean they have to like it.
