QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 06:20 PM) Average is a lot better than what we've gotten out of CF and perhaps 3b so far this season. Absolutely, if we can get average production out of third base with a steady glove and move Bacon to 2B, along with a healthy Quentin we've got a very potent line up, esp if Jermaine can continue to keep it up. The idea of Teahen and Hermida in our line up excites me. We would have a balanced attack from both the left and right sides of the plate and the potential for breakouts(backs?) from them, neither one of them would be expected to carry the line up; simply produce for the rest of the season and going into 2010 while AJ, Paulie and Dye ride off into the sunset. With all the money we would have coming off the books after this year i would look to lock up core; much like the rays and tribe. The sox are going to have a very solid foundation to build off in nearly every aspect across the board and depth in the minors to supplement the major league roster in one fashion or another. My mouth salivates at the thought of this around the Diamond. DH L/R Thome/Dye C R Flowers 1B R Konerko 2B R Beckham SS R Ramirez 3B L Teahen LF L Hermida CF L Danks RF R Quentin -

QUOTE (shakes @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 03:36 PM) If you're worried about leadoff, just bring Pods back. They will have an open spot at DH for any one of our elder/injury prone outfielders. Figgins is a big injury risk and hasn't played a regular CF in a while. And I think someone will overpay him on a 2 or 3 year contract. agreed, i think if scott rides the year out healthy with the sox we sign him to a 1 year deal to keep CF warm for Jordan; Danks going into next year will be one sports hernia away from starting for the sox and backing his brother up. I seriously doubt KW will make the following moves but that is why I'm a fan. Teahen would be a great asset for this team, his ability to produce across the diamond and stationing him at 3B, until Dayan or Morel are ready is perfect, it gives us time to not rush either of them and see what we truly have in both; and it puts beckham in more natural position where is bat his All star caliber. Hermida just gives us more insurance and a 25 year old with previous Major league success in a vast ball park that is in need of a change of scenery that still has a lot of upside and could slot into LF/RF if Quentin or dye go down, and going into next year gives us some youth in the outfield. Snell is killing it in the minors and a great buy low candidate, hes stated he doesn't want to pitch for the pirates and his GM has gone on record saying his contract was a mistake. Maybe Teahen will come cheaply(i can hope) if the price isn't what ive stated go out and get him and move Beckham to 2B then will have a quality bat across the whole diamond. Hermida for Dotel Teahen for Fields + Egbert/Omogrosso/Link/Nunez? Snell for Getz (they're going to need a 2B after they trade Sanchez) doing all this puts some questions on our roster to bed. -

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 02:36 PM) I'd much rather have Teahen as he can play a lot more positions and has been a better hitter this year. If we're thinking more down the road, I'd go with DeJesus. Yeah i would much prefer we go after Teahen, how much longer is he under control? is he a FA after the season or after 2010? He will be 28 at the end of the season. I would love to see KW go get Teahen and Hermida Richard, Carter, Fields for Teahen Dotel for Hermida Lineup L Podsednik CF R Ramirez SS R Dye RF L Thome DH R Konerko 1B L Teahan 3B R Quentin/Hermida L AJP R Beckham 2B With Hermida and Teahan they give us alot of options if someone gets hurt and going to the future as well with alot of potential upside, and it puts Nix in a great position for continued success in a Uribe like role. -

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 10:38 PM) Torres looked real good out there. Quite a pleasant surprise, I was preparing myself for another soft tossing pitcher, but that was not the case. Eric Young said he talking to someone with the White Sox Organization and they said his best pitch was the cutter. Got some good pop on his fastball and a nice tight breaking pitch. Also, EY said that he was a great competitor, pitched with no fear, and has a lot of confidence. He's now a legit prospect in my book. The one negative I'd say is that he doesn't have all that great of a frame. He looks really skinny. However, at the very least, I think he could be a solid bullpen arm. Yeah at the very least i think he could develop into a linebrink type pitcher out of the backend of the bullpen. Which would be a huge asset; not having to pay someone 4-5.5M a year to set up. -

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 10:15 PM) He was doing that in B'ham last year. He moves his fastball all over the place and keeps the hitters off balance. His fastball is the real deal. thank you, so we have a 26yr old RHP that sits in 92-94, cuts and sinks his fastball and has an average change that is more than a show me pitch and an above average curve, and he has great command and can locate? Did i get that all right? -

is the gun hot or does he routinely sit in the 92-94mph range? Also i like his slider? its a very tight break. -
If we sign Bryan Morgado where would he rank? i think a LHP with a mid 90's Fastball and improved command and some complimentary pitches that appear to be further along than Poreda would be high on the rankings no?

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 07:51 PM) He's a rookie SS, he will get better and is already a pretty good defensive SS. Shying away from contact? No range? I disagree with both of those assessments. His footwork is a work in progress which is why he tiptoes around the bag during a dp, but once again, he turns a very nice one so who cares. His range right, left and out are VERY good, better than we've had in YEARS. His RF and FPCT are very respectable if not good for a rookie SS. As far as his hitting, dont let your opinion get in the way of facts. He's an extremely good hitter for a middle infielder. Since he's been moved to the 2-hole he is hitting .317 .379 .863 in 46 games. Thats good for the 4th highest OPS on the team behind Dye, Thome and Konerko. He's on pace for 22 HR and 84 RBI as a #2 hitter. Maybe your eyes may dislike his approach, but the numbers speak for themselves. Seriously though people forget he is new to SS at the major league level, and i think he has done better than a respectable job, yea he looses concentration but his bat and defense at SS are a huge asset. I look forward to him being on the southside for a long time to come. Hes capable of a 20/20 season this year and if he can get his technique down at 30/30 season all the while he is walking more. I look at alexei as a little bit more powerful version of Jimmy Rollins, with the potential to OPS around 800-815 with less speed

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 08:39 PM) Morel isn't lighting up the world, but quietly, he is having a very solid first full professional season. .269 Avg, 18 2B, 11 HR, 17 SB and a .785. He looks like he could be a future league-average 3rd baseman. Granted his average isn't high, but over a full-162 game season, his numbers project out very nicely. According to Baseball America, he has good range and a plus arm, so fielding isn't an issue for him. He could very well develop into a Joe Crede-type player. Yeah hes putting up a a very solid season, the only way he moves up is if Dayan gets moved off third base or gets promoted to AAA. I think a meh, good, better and best situation for Morel is something like this: Joe Crede , Joe Randa, Edgardo Alfonozo and Jeff Cirillo. I hope as he climbs the SB's remain part of his game and I hope in this second half he carrys over his hot hitting and finds himself in AA. the '07 draft is looking like an amazing one.

The sox need to add a bat for today and the future, and possibly another arm. I would like to see the sox go get Hermida if he is really available for a relief pitcher with closing experience. It allows us to take it easy with Carlos and doesn't leave us holding the bag if his foot isn't 100% and he needs to have surgery. Going into 2010 Id give give Pods a contract so he could bridge the gap to Danks. a future outfield of Hermida, Danks, Quentin would be wonderful. and as for an Arm, go get Snell he should be available for a song and could help this organization for a few years.

QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 01:46 AM) Fathom, I know McCarthy shot up thru the system quickly but what I can see of Huddie's upside reports and the box score his K rate is much higher. McCarthy was a sinker baller wasn't he? Or am I making the wrong comparison? McCarthy had a straight as an arrow fastball that he could locate, with a zito-esk curve

Cole still trying to show he has a pulse I see we drafted Kuhn as a SS but hes in LF at A+, any chance he gets moved back to the middle? and what is his future, he seems devoid of any real power, but i've read he hits everything on a line.
