  1. honestly wtf is up with this first pitch swinging nonsense, aj has seen two pitches this game
  2. nice inning for Gavin, put up those donuts and get back at perkins
  3. thinking more about the pirates turing down the marlins for hermida, I think it just makes sense to get him and put him in LF and take it easy with quentin, if he comes back and tears it up awesome, then we've got a great problem on our hands, but if he comes back and hurts himself i would still prefer we have someone like hermida ready to step in, and keep the production in the outfield with hermida, podsednik and dye
  4. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 11, 2009 -> 04:02 PM) I agree. This class have that special feel unless 2/3 of those guys signs. Even then, it might not be great, but you need to get those dynamic OFs and/or electric-arm lefty. Agreed, there is no point in drafting them if your not going to sign them, its just stupid, with the exception of Goodwin thats a reach, but with the other two they we're picked in the top 101 and they need to be locked in to bolster our farm. from reading the baseball America report, his manager is comparing him to Eric Milton with a tweener of a slurvish breaking ball and a decent change up, if he can develop those pitches we could have something special on his hands.
  5. I hope the sox sign Bryan Morgado and one of Thompson or Goodwin. Obviously the way Morgado has been pitching as of late is going to raise his price but its worth it.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 03:27 PM) I don't see the Marlins giving up Hermida or Ross for Dotel. We'd either have to subsidize the leftover $2-3 million on Dotel's deal or send another prospect or two along to sweeten the pot, like a John Shelby III and Omogrosso/Santeliz/Ely/Nunez/Harrell caliber of pitcher. I would do Dotel + Shelby + Omogrosso for Hermida, he needs a change of scenery. an outfield of Hermida, Danks, Quentin would be sick! i think coming to the cell he could get back to his .870OPS ways
  7. I'm very excited about Morel, I remember hearing sickels say he could potentially end up being a Joe Randa type, and i remember him having an above average glove in college so I'm glad to see him starting to hit well again. I would love to see a very solid bat and glove anchoring 3B with Beckham moving back to 2B in the not too distant future; something along the lines of 750-815OPS for frame of reference Joe Crede's career OPS .752 Joe Randa's career OPS .765
  8. I'm sad to see Allen go, but to get a rhp of the caliber of pena I'm excited, the bullpen is one of the biggest sink holes of money in ML baseball, just look at what we had to give dotel and linebrink to get it in order after the whole aardsma and sisco fiasco. I trust this is the best KW could get and basically getting dotel 2.0 for 3.5 years isn't a bad move at all and this makes sure we don't cough up the lead late in the game. KW rarely gets burned on trading from his own back yard, and i think the sox have some very solid advanced scouts so I'm sure we will see the fruition of this trade shortly. we've realistically got some time to find a solution at first base after konerko, thome, dye and aj ride off into the sun, and we've got some excellent opitions down at AA if both Flowers and Viciedo can't stick at their respective positions and the potential of Black in the way off distance. Also we have one more future draft ahead of us to get a first round first basemen whom as far as drafting go are the fastest to make the bigs and get the biggest ROIC.

  10. QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Jul 5, 2009 -> 03:12 PM) It really doesnt bother me about who was picked from the Sox this year....but next year I wanna see Slayer,Danks,Lexi, and Poreda make the team. well we will just have to make it to the world seires now, wont we
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 5, 2009 -> 03:16 PM) It depends on what your goal is. If it's the 5th starter spot, you've got 4 other guys rolling, and you're looking to develop a young pitcher for the future, then you can certainly keep throwing someone out there who struggles to get through the 5th and has bad numbers. Give you a perfect example. Full season WHIP: 1.540. Got worse every month; 2nd half 1.642 WHIP, 7.11 ERA, 1-7 record. Who am I looking at? That's John Danks, 2007. Face it, Clayton has some talent, he just needs work. He's not getting that sitting on the bench. You want to develop a young starter in to something solid, you have to put up with some struggles. Would I have a problem moving Poreda in for some starts? No. Would I expect him to go more than 4 innings? No. i agree with your whole post. You run him out there until he totally s***s the bed, hes got a great arm and the potential to be as good as danks if not better. He has to learn how to pace himself at the ML level and he needs to develop a cutter to keep RH off balance. We know if we put him in the pen we're looking at another Matt Thornton; which is phenonal, but let his talent and age ride out, nearly all rookie pitchers hit a wall give him time to make adjustments, if we're patient with him we might just have a hybrid between danks and MB on our hands and a very cheap solution to our rotation for a long time.
  12. Sanchez would be a great fit for this team. Hes 31, and could help propel us to another division title; also he would be a nice player to have while third base fleshes itself out(Dayan, Morel) with Gordon eventually moving to second. I don't think it would take to much to get him; especially if you offer to pick up snell along the way and take on all the payroll.
  13. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 06:56 PM) Chemistry is huge in baseball. Probably bigger in baseball than any other sport, IMO. I don't believe in "chemistry"; that 70's A's dynasty hated one another and it was well documented.
  14. Sox are rolling right now. the only thing i could see us needing is a veteran bat at either 2B or 3B with gordon staying at the hot corner or moving over.
  15. sox winner, royals make it interesting late in the game but we come out with the shut out 7 in a row, nice work guys!
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 08:39 PM) Unless it's a superstar 2nd baseman, I am puzzled as to what KW would be looking to upgrade on this current team. No reason to get a CF with Quentin's likely return. I wonder if something like Getz + Fields + Egbert is enough to get Sanchez and Snell. seeing how snell just signed that extension in '08 and has basically talked his way out of town, it gives the bucs a second basemen they can groom at the ML level, a third basemen with some limited upside and a decent 4-5 starter candidate.
