from BA 32 Last: 31 Steele Walker 4YROF Notes: School: Oklahoma Ht: 5-11 | Wt: 190 | B-T: L-L | Commit/Drafted: Never Drafted Scouting Report: Walker is one of the better pure hitters in the draft class and is in the midst of a career-best season with Oklahoma this spring, hitting .373/.469/.634 through 41 games with 11 home runs and a 13 percent walk rate. Each of those numbers are career-highs for Walker and speak to his impressive hand-eye coordination and pitch recognition from the left side. The bat will get Walker drafted because he lacks a true standout plus tool—unless a club puts a 60 on his bat, which is tough to do but might make some sense in Walker’s case—as a corner outfielder without blazing speed or a big arm. At just 5-foot-11, 190 pounds, it is difficult to project much more than average power for Walker, though he has already hit double-digit home runs this spring and hit seven in 53 games with a wood bat in the Northwoods League during the summer of 2016. Speaking of his wood bat track record, Walker has that as well, hitting .406/.479/.557 in the aforementioned Northwoods League, .280/.330.400 in a brief eight-game stint in the Cape Cod League last summer and an even more impressive .333/.417/.514 with two home runs and a team-best five doubles in 20 games with Team USA. Walker might not have an immensely high ceiling thanks to his lack of tools and corner profile, but college hitters who perform well seemingly always go high and Walker is among the safer bets in the class to have some sort of major league impact. -

Would love to see McClanahan fall to our second pick for similar reasons as Hansen.. -

If i was sitting in the war room 1.) Mize 2.) Madrigal 3.) India 4.) Bart 5.) Bohm 6.) Singer Id prefer the sox draft Madrigal or India, if we can't land Manny in the FA class and the rockies lock up Nolan we're looking at a situation where we sign a 33 year old josh Donaldson. If the sox draft Madrigal or India; they can always move Moncada off of 2B or over to 3B to accommodate them, with India sticking at 3B and it gives them some depth in case of a year long injury, Bohm could stick at 3B but i prefer India and Madrigal to him. -
I think he winds up with the brewers for someone like Kodi Medeiros with the Sox picking up his remaining salary
-
This is my take as well looking over the whole list.
-
I agree with this and holding Eloy down till sept / next year. I also think provided Shields keeps it up we'll be able to move him to a team like the brewers for a return like Kodi Medeiros.

Welkeris top 100 right now

I'm not even Sold on McMahon; If its straight up Abreu + Jones, my expectation would be something along these lines: Welker, Lambert, Bowden. Abreu's surplus value is roughly 9.1M by the time he gets traded this year and not taking into account scarcity and trade deadline inflation, if you predict a 3-3.5fWAR season next year and an ARB salary of 18M next year his surplus value is roughly 10M and when you factor in a likely compensation pick(#31-35 or #76-78) you're looking at 17M in value as well; seeing how the padres just paid roughly 7+M for the twins 74th pick this year. Add it all up and Abreu is worth roughly 36.1M in surplus value when you factor in salary and qualifying offer pick, and again this doesn't take into account the scarcity for power bats at the trade deadline an inflation. If you go by point of Pittsburgh's updated surplus value that is nearly the value of Welker & Lambert. Add in Jones and his performance this year as well as contract and we should get an interesting 45FV piece like Bowden. The deal purposed above would be "fair market value" add in the deadline and it wouldn't surprise me to see the sox extract more value especially if there is a bidding war between the Yankees, Dodgers, Astros and not taking into account any other factors like injuries or a decline in production from someone like the Nat's Matt Adams. It gets even more interesting if the Rockies want to shed dead payroll in anticipation of the next two free agent classes and trying to lock up Nolan Arenado. Ian Desmond has roughly 52M remaining on his contract by the trade deadline Brendan Rodgers is worth roughly $65.6M, its possible a deal like this could line up. Abreu + Jones for Desmond + Rodgers, + Welker + Bowden + Daniel Montano
-
I'm with you; Hahn won't move him for scraps when the trade deadline approaches if Abreu is continuing to do his thing I think he will be one of the most talked about names and living in front range I can tell you locally the rockies fanbase is going to put pressure on their FO to make a move. Dodgers could get creative as others mentioned by putting Bellinger in the OF to bring in Jose's bat and at the very least drive up the price for Colorado. The mariners are going to be interested but they don't have the chips, the nationals are doing ok with Adams/Reynolds and the red sox while a good fit as well don't have the pieces to make it happen.

As it stands right now outside of Votto the 1B & DH markets are thin, very thin; Votto is signed for minimum 5 more years with roughly 150M remaining and a full NTC . The fact that Abreu isn't a rental and has a reasonable salary this year and ARB3 next with a likely QO attached to him makes him valuable. Adding to his value is the unique situation that three teams find themselves in. 1.) Rockies have the worst production out of 1B have the pieces to make a deal happen and are looking at a dodger team too good to both play at this level and stand idle and a Giants team that is playing competently and have put them self into the picture. 2.) The defending Champs are going to feel even more pressure to defend. Gattis, Gurriel and Gonzalez have all taken a step back this year. They too have the pieces to land Abreu. 3.) The Yankees, bird is coming back but there is no way in hell Cashman is going to let the date of their season rest on a potential 1 game playoff against the Angels. They too have the pieces and the cap space to land Abreu. Which brings the Sox to a great posisition where something is going to give and you can play all three teams against one another to get you what you think 1.5 years of Jose Abreus skills and intangibles are worth. It wouldn't surprise me if come July we're talking about a near Texeria like return from the Rockies for Abreu and Jones / Rondon

I like the Ti'Quan Forbes love from Carson, but a bit surprised that Basabe was so low on their list.
-
I can't shake the feeling but I feel Ender Inciarte isn't a "good" comp for Luis Gonzalez. If he progresses and makes it to the show i get a creeping suspicion he'll be a left handed version of Cody Ross with better defense.
-
No doubt, by midseason when you factor in buy outs and bonus Desmond will have $52M remaining on his contract. Rodgers is roughly the 15th best prospect in baseball which would put his value per the point of Pittsburgh at $65.6M, thats a 13.6M difference the sox would have to make up if taking on Desmond's whole contract and expecting Rodgers back, but I think there is likely to be a deal made between the rockies and sox over Abreu and Jones, and their farm system that isn't going directly impact their run (Welker, Lambert, Hampson, Eusebio, Bowden).
-
I posted in one of the Abreu trade threads but if Jose figures to average 3WAR for this year and next plus the potential for DPC he is worth a 75-100 top 100 prospect + a 50/45FV guy as well, combine that with Nate Jones and I think between the Rockies and Astros, the white sox will have a good trade partner come july.
-
Yeah I agree, Fegan is doing work and future sox as a resource is much better. Miss the days of the cheat..
-
God what a bust...right him off, can't believe the sox FO can't target real hitters and trusted the trackman data; everyone knows even if hes lucky he winds up at DH, please tell e the last defensive catcher the sox developed.....stupid just stupid kid is going to get passed up by Zavala... ? /s I will be patiently waiting for the josh nelsons & larry's of the world to eat crow when Collins becomes the next Mickey Tettleton
-
If there is value to be had for Jose and Jones, move both of them possibly together. My expectation would be someone in the 75-100 top 100 prospect range and something interesting; a 55/50FV & a 45/40 depending on how both the sox and their perspective trading partner matched up. Here are two examples Houston: OF/1B Yordan Alvarez & LHP Cionel Perez / SS Jonathan Arauz Colorado: 3B Colton Welker & LHP Breiling Eusebio & LHP Ben Bowden

Seriously kids been on a hot streak to get his numbers to where they are of course he wasn't going to continue to hit for ever but there is an obvious drastic change to his approach. In other news Eloy and Luis Gonzalez each need to be bumped up and challenged.
-
I like what Fulmer features but he is likely best served in short stints being effectively wild if he can't get a release point down, hes got quality stuff just no idea how to control it.
